Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts

(Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

Singles

In the past when an act has toured this country, it has always helped boost their sales, and once again that statement is true, as LMFAO reclaim the No.1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week with “Sexy and I Know it”, now scoring its seventh week at the top. This is all helped by their current appearances around the country as a part of the Stereosonic music festival.

This is the second time this year that a song has gone back to the top, the other was Rihanna’s “S&M” which had been at the top for two weeks before new Lady GaGa track “Born This Way” debuted at the top, staying at the summit for a week before Rihanna re-took the No.1 spot for a further three weeks during March.

And by going back to No.1, LMFAO have accumulated their seventeenth week at No.1 this year (and decade), equaling the seventeen weeks that Rihanna has amassed this decade, albeit with four songs.

LMFAO’s rise to No.1 is also felt in the other charting singles, as former ten-week-No.1 “Party Rock Anthem” is back up two places to No.22, “Champagne Supernova” is only down three places to No.50, and long-running-but-low-peaking track “Shots” moves to a new height this week of No.71, having spent forty weeks in the Top 100, all in the lower half of the charts.

Reece Mastin drops back to No.2 with his two week running No.1 single “Good Night”, but with his album out this week, it could boost him back to the No.1 spot next week. The next four songs all hold stable this week, “The A Team” for Ed Sheeran at No.3, “Dedication to My Ex” for Lloyd and gang at No.4, “We Found Love” for Rihanna and Calvin Harris at No.5 and “Don’t Worry Be Happy” for Guy Sebastian at No.6.

Moving to a new peak at No.7 (up one place) is Taio Cruz and Flo Rida with “Hangover”, and Flo again appears at No.8 with “Good Feeling”. Jason DeRulo scores his sixth Top 10 single (from his eight Top 40 entries), as “Breathing” climbs three places to No.9, and holding at No.10 for a second week is Coldplay and “Paradise”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Christina Perri leaps seven places to No.15 with the “A Thousand Years”, whilst the other ‘Twilight 4.1’ soundtrack song “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars is right behind her at No.16 (down two places this week). Outside of the Top 20, Katy Perry climbs up a place to No.27 with “The One That Got Away”, Rihanna climbs two places to No.29 with “You Da One”, and Hot Chelle Rae are up five places to No.30 with “I Like it Like That”.

Bruno Mars jumps eight places to No.33 with his new single “Count on Me”, and also up eight is Avicii with “Levels”, now up to No.37. Matt Corby scores his first Top 40 entry by moving up six places to No.40 with “Into the Flame”, and the new single for Kelly Clarkson, “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” is up to No.41 this week.

P!nk scores the highest new entry of the week at No.26 with “Bridge of Light”, taken from the ‘Happy Feet Two’ soundtrack (film opens Dec 26th here), on which she also provides the voice of the character Gloria, and contributes another song, a mash-up of “Under Pressure” and “Rhythm Nation”. This is P!nk’s 27th chart entry, and her first since “Raise Your Glass” (HP-1) and “F**kin’ Perfect” (HP-10) from her “Greatest Hits… So Far” (HP-1, TW-99) last year, and also her first hit since giving birth in June to her daughter Willow.

Tom Omaji was born in Nigeria and immigrated to Australia at 10 months old. Known as Timomatic now, he has appeared on Australia’s version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ (series 2 in 2009) and this year he came third on ‘Australia’s Got Talent’. In between those two shows he attended music school and appeared in the Australian version of ‘Fame the Musical’. After coming third on ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ this year he released independently the album “Welcome” and the track from it “Save the Dancefloor”. In October he was support act to Flo Rida on his tour, and in November toured with Salt-N-Pepa, after which he signed a record deal with Sony Music. His debut single is entitled “Set it Off”, and it debuts at No.39 this week. BTW, Jack Vidgen (the winner of Oz Got Talent 2011) peaked at No.35 with his debut single “Yes I Am” (Aug 2011).

The third Top 50 debut of the week comes from Cher Lloyd, a contestant from the UK X-Factor in 2010, she placed fourth in that series, and scored a No.1 in the UK with her debut single “Swagger Jagger” in August 2011. Her debut chart entry here is her second overseas single entitled “With UR Love”, which features guest artist Mike Posner, and debuts at No.48 this week. It’s taken from her debut album “Sticks + Stones”.

Lower 50: Eminem’s national tour continues to have positive chart results for him, as three former hits resurge this week, first up is “Lose Yourself” which jumps twenty-eight places to No.53. Last years No.1 “Love the Way You Lie” is back up seven places to No.68, and lastly “Not Afraid” is up eight places to No.75. Other than the aforementioned “Shots” for LMFAO scoring a new peak, the other lower track to climb higher this week is The Black Keys and “Lonely Boy”, helped by their new albums Top 10 entry no doubt.

Local dance duo Bombs Away debuted and peaked at No.52 with their first chart entry “Super Soaker” eight weeks ago, and that track is back up eleven places this week to No.54. But they also debut with their second chart entry this week at No.78, “Big Booty Bitches”.

Albums

Michael Buble’s “Christmas” holds for a second week at No.1 in Australia, and could only be knocked from the top by X-Factor winner Reece Mastin next week, or stay at No.1 for next couple of weeks before the inevitable post-Christmas drop-off. He is joined on the charts by his new entry at No.82 of his box set entitled “Collection”, which is his first four studio albums, plus his first live album “Come Fly With Me”.

Adele is at No.2 again with “21”, now up to 10xPlatinum in Australia. Susan Boyle climbs back up one place to No.3 with “Someone to Watch Over Me”, and current tourists LMFAO climb back up two places to No.4 with “Sorry for Party Rocking”.

Nickelback fell two places last week to No.3 with “Here and Now”, and again this week they drop two places to No.5. Tony Bennett is back up two places to No.6 with his “Duets 2” album, and rejoining the Top 10 at No.9 (up five places) are Cold Chisel and their new GH package “The Best of Cold Chisel – All For You”, helped by their current national tour. And lastly, the highest new entry of last week, One Direction’s “Up All Night” halves it’s position by falling from No.5 to No.10 this week.

Scoring the highest new entry of the week is Akron, Ohio trio The Black Keys, who debut at No.7 with their seventh studio album “El Camino”. Lead single from the album “Lonely Boy” leaps to No.55 this week, and this new album becomes their highest charting album, second Top 10 entry and of the six that have charted here, their info is below…

Finland’s symphonic metal band Nightwish debut at No.57 with their seventh album “Imaginaerum”, which has become their fifth successive No.1 in their home country. Their sixth album “Dark Passion Play” was their first to chart here, reaching No.42 in October 2007.

Michael Crawford’s “The Story of My Life – Ultimate Collection” is up twenty places to No.76, and thanks to her recent tour, Sade’s “Ultimate Collection” is back in at No.85.

Celtic Thunder join the Christmas album list this year with “Christmas” debuting at No.67, and The Killers debut at No.77 with the “Red Christmas EP”, which features their previously released six Christmas charity singles in the one collection.

Surprised to see Cher Lloyd on the ARIA charts! So that's 2 UK-TXF finalists then... wonder when Rebecca will plug in her stuff there. Other than that, the charts were as predicted. It seems any intl band that tours Australia is guaranteed major chart jumps. Sad about Ed Sheeran falling down the album charts.
