Hmm, in general I'm just not a fan of K-pop, J-pop because a lot of it, to my ears, sounds like generic Western pop and I'm not really a massive fan of generic pop either unless it's amazing. Good Day caught my ear because of the strings and melody, it's just so different to everything else that I've heard :o So I definitely could like songs from the genres, it's just that they need to sound more individual in some way to stick out to my ears! My top points in BJSC NEVER go to anything generic unless they're absolutely incredible with it (On The Floor is an example of an incredible generic song :P)

I just took a peek at your chart, and saw We Found Love being #1 before, that is WELL generic :lol:

But the Calvin Harris production is INSANE on that song and so immensely euphoric! As I said, I can appreciate generic as long as it's incredible to my ears, and that definitely is. 95% of generic pop just goes in one ear and out the other for me, especially if it's got budget production values that make it sound like pretty much anything else. That's not to say that I can't enjoy it but in a contest like BJSC which is packed with many songs that all sound quite similar to each other, it does tend to be the more 'different' sounding entries that catch my ear and get my bigger points, I guess I subconsciously reward people for going against the grain and sending songs that stand out from the pack. I've sent plenty of generic pop to the contest in my time though so I can't judge - in fact I'd place this in the top three entries that I've EVER sent and it's as generic as hell and features some incredibly tacky lyrics but it boasts one fantastic chorus, a great melody and an 'in your face' attitude that I found irresistible;

 

Oh how I wish FSR Rontvia sends songs like these nowadays in the BJSC :(
