Great to see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs chart  I agree that their name is really stupid  people will take them as a joke and as a result they'll never get a UK Top 40 hit single :( Expect 'Garden' and 'Household Goods' to be in my year end chart :D

The Wonder Villains released a single in October, Zola, and they've got another single to be released in February, Ferrari. They've also just recorded a session for Radio 1 with Huw Stephens, so hopefully they'll be up to great things next year.

Great to see This Many Boyfriends make your list as well. A great song.

Listening to them now I think Zola is OK but I definitely prefer Ferrari, one for my personal chart in the forthcoming weeks I think!

Despite my song of the year already having fallen I'm really interested to see what you've got here :D

Hmmm, I'm intrigued as to what that is, my guess would be Foo Fighters I suppose but I'm not confident...

Nice to see We Found Love and Born This Way chart T100

Thanks for the comments, good to see you liking quite a few. Agree with Foo Fighters, have liked all four of their singles but none have been particularly great. I really like We Found Love. I know it's nothing new but I prefer it to pretty much everything else of its type from this year. Rihanna can be really good doing stuff like that, I tend to really dislike her ballads though.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs are pretty good, I think they're a band that could get better too, maybe they should refer to themselves as TEED?

Three well known songs in this one, I've been really unimpressed with Florence's material from the 'Ceremonials' era so far but 'What The Water Gave Me' is definitely up there with her best, a lovely song which builds fantastically. Lana Del Rey seems to be the in thing at the moment, I don't find anything about her to be a music turn off, but I must admit the hype is getting to me slightly. Yeah she's good but the amount of praise she gets is so OTT for me, I know in a years time I'm going to find her utterly unbearable so I'll just enjoy Video Games while I can.

'Kids' is certainly a highlight on Airship's surprisingly consistent debut album, a great single with a great chorus, fellow new band Alpines make their first entry with 'Drive', from their March EP 'Night Drive', ambient pop is something I've seen them described as and it's probably as good a description as any. Lead singer Catherine's vocals are certainly something that could be enjoyed by fans of Florence as well. They're joined though by one of the biggest surprises of the year, I'd heard 'Traktor' and I adore 'Fool's Gold' so seeing that Wretch 32 was going to be sampling it for his next single it was something I dreaded and I hoped to avoid it, but not only did I like it, it's not something I've ever even begun to get tired of. The use of the sped up sample of the backing track is excellent and compliments Wretch's rapping very well, and having Example on the chorus works really well too.

A largely acoustic set here, kicking off with Ed Sheeran's huge hit 'The A Team', I've known of him for a long time now and although I'm not a fan I have always had a soft spot for The A Team and its collaboration form 'Little Lady' with Mikill Pane. I do still find it odd that a song about such a subject has gone on to become such a MoR radio favourite though.... After spending the last coupe of years singing with Bombay Bicycle Club Lucy Rose has released some solo stuff this year and 'Scar' is my favourite of the bunch so far, really rather lovely and I'm looking forward to her album next year.

The Dodos had three excellent singles three years ago but I found their follow-up album to be disappointing. They returned again this year with single 'Black Night', whose folky charms were more like the stuff from their 'Visiter' album. Fool's Gold were new to me this year despite them releasing their second album, and 'Wild Window' is rather good, superb catchy indie. The Subways were an act I'd lost interest in but this years 'We Don't Need Money To Have A Good Time' was a return to 2005 form matching the punchy rock of 'Oh Yeah' and 'Rock And Roll Queen', by far their best for a while and matches the #72 position their only other entry managed some six years ago.

Five acts now who all get their first entry in an End of Year chart of mine, The Duke Spirit have been around for some time and just missed out with a couple of songs three years ago, but they make it this time with early single 'Everybody's Under Your Spell'. Tim Berg AKA Avicii's 'Fade Into Darkness' was his own lyrical version of 'Penguin', a far better song than the Leona version 'Collide', so euphoric and suiting the instrumental so well. Either way both songs are much better than the duo of 'Good Feeling' and 'Levels', most certainly the wrong pair of songs went on to be a success.

Foster The People took a while to finally click, I'd always quite liked 'Pumped Up Kicks' but it was the release of the album that saw me start to think it was actually a great song deserving of its success. I've loved a few I'm From Barcelona songs before but I always discovered them the year after they were released. 'Always Spring' from the early part of the year is typically jolly and uplifting, they're superb at making that type of music. 'Colours' was a discovery for me at the end of last year for Grouplove, a band who ended up disappointing me slightly over the course of the year in the sense that nothing else of theirs is anywhere near as good.

So far...

Calvin Harris is the first person to make a second appearance this year and in the process racks up his 7th appearance in my End of Year history, just the 13th act to do so, although only three are songs which he leads. 'Bounce' is very 90s Nintendo soundtrack but I can't help but enjoy it as it puts a smile on my face, I think the video is really good and it really suits Kelis' vocals. The Drums make their first appearance of 2011 and mark three consecutive years of top 100 entries, for recent single 'How It Ended', not the best of peaks for me but it's something that seems to keep getting better each time I listen to 'Portamento'.

'What You Know' seems so long ago now as Two Door Cinema Club were (for me at least) very much one of 2010s best bands, but What You Know still sounds fantastic and fresh now and their sound was so good in the summer, hoping for another excellent album from them. Gang Gang Dance sampling wonder gets them a 2nd entry and Friends get their first entry, 'Friend Crush' is the first of six singles in my top 100 that never made my personal chart, this one because I was unaware of them until their recent release 'I'm His Girl', which is still to come.

'Waiting For My Chance To Come': #60, 2011

Just after Calvin Harris became the 13th act to get 7 End of Year chart entries, Noah & The Whale follow immediately, but not before they pick up their 6th. I said in my album thread that I'd gone off them with overplay and that's still true to an extent with their two singles here, although as the two highlights off the album they remain fairly high still, probably down to the recent release of 'Waiting For My Chance To Come' as it has got me back into them a bit. 'Life Goes On' is the first personal chart number one to appear.

Also here are three debut hits, members of The xx have got round a bit this year and singer Romy guests provides vocals on Creep's early year single 'Days', it has an air of xx about it and as a result her vocals go down just as well as on anything on their debut album. The rather lovely and dreamy 'Baltimore' is an entry for Tennis, a song I've continued to go back to and MNDR gets her first entry with what I think is the best song she's been associated with so far.

Wild Beasts aside it's another bunch of debuts here, 'Bed of Nails' was something I ignored when it was out as I thought the previous single 'Albatross' was terrible and put me off them, but I listened to the album anyway and it's fantastic, with 'Bed of Nails' certainly being a highlight. Apparat's 'Song of Los' is an example of a song I see high in a Personal chart and decide to download it and see what it's like, a beautiful grower who I've started to investigate a bit more. Cashier No.9 were a discovery for me, like many others, in Unknown Pleasures, I've liked all their material but recent release 'Oh Pity' is certainly their best so far, and very different for them, much more mellow and melodic.

The Joy Formidable and The Vaccines are two bands I first listened to at the end of last year with different expectations, but both surpassed them releasing excellent debut albums. Both have a top 50 entry to come but for now it's 'Cradle' and 'If You Wanna' that pop up now, two upbeat indie-rock songs, the latter of which take me back to what I loved about the genre 4-5 years ago.

I shall continue this after Christmas and kick off with a song which I've heard on the radio twice, once on Radio 2 and once on Smooth, getting old!

I'm really digging that Fool's Gold track. I'd been put off listening to them as I thought they'd be a cheap Stone Roses imitation, but that song's rather nice.

Also great to see The Joy Formidable and especially Cashier no.9 make your list. The rest of their debut album is more along the lines of 'Oh Pity', although I'm disappointed that they left 'When Jackie Shone' and '42 West Avenue" off it.

Hmmm, I'm intrigued as to what that is, my guess would be Foo Fighters I suppose but I'm not confident...

Yeah, it's "Rope".

The Pierces brand of folk-pop is not something I could take a whole album of, but 'You'll Be Mine' is cracking pop song with a wonderful melody that got a lot of airplay amongst radio stations for 'older' people, a huge shame it wasn't quite able to crossover into hit status. I've never had to thank the X-Factor for anything musically before, but Coldplay's performance of 'Paradise' on the final transformed the song from a fairly decent Coldplay single to something much greater, they certainly suit a live show.

Bon Iver's more obvious song is still to come but there's a second top 50 entry for 'Calgary', also very beautiful and one of the albums best. They're joined by two songs I wasn't aware of when they were released but are amongst the artist's best. 'Every Kingdom' opener 'Old Pine' is a stunning song with one of the best intros of the year and Cults don't get much more joyous and fun than on 'Abducted'

I'm not sold on Emeli Sande at all, everything I've heard including her feature appearances are poor apart from 'Heaven' which is superb, a throwback to 90s Massive Attack hits, I've always said it would be the kind of thing they released if ever they were serious about having another hit. 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala' means Arctic Monkeys become only the third act after The Futureheads and Ash to reach 10 End of Year entries for me, certainly one of the most consistent acts of recent times but they've never made the top 10... yet!

Belle And Sebastian get their first entry for 5 years, although it was from their first album since then after 'Write About Love' missed out a year ago. 'I Want The World To Stop' is my album highlight and them at their poppiest. 'Open Arms' is the closest thing on 'Build a Rocket Boys!' to remaking 'One Day Like This' with its rousing choir chorus the highlight, it's a formula that works and has produced another great song so no need to stop. 'I Need A Dollar' is one of the great success stories of the year, little did I think when I heard it last summer it would go on to become a hit but definitely one of the best songs to hit the upper reaches of the UK chart in 2011!

There's one more for Joy Formidable left...

Kassidy's catchy folk-rock kicks off the top 40, 'I Don't Know' being one of those songs that doesn't take long at all to get stuck in the head. Little Boots returned last month with 'Shake', it is essentially a 'Stuck on Repeat' re-hash but re-hashing one of the best songs of recent years is no bad thing. Not as fantastic, but still fantastic. Alpines second entry is at #38, taking everything that was good about 'Drive' and improving it on 'Cocoon', an act I'm looking forward to hearing more from. The Horrors first entry falls at #37, a very different song to 'Still Life', much heavier and guitar led and the exceptionally anthemic 'Bigger Than Us' gives White Lies their highest ever charting, by far the standout on their second album 'Ritual'.
