1. Pop-rock is a wide ranging genre, with everything from Kelly Clarkson to My Chemical Romance (pop to pop-punk). Genres like that exist. Granted it can be talking about McFly style bands, but it's still a good genre. It's simply lighter rock with a more mainstream sounding style.

See awful that is not proper rock music it is just shiity pop with a bit of electric guitar in the background which is probaly on a computer so not proper talent think about all the talented drummers or guitaristes and so on who are out of a job because of all this computerised stuff

Okay rock sometimes does talk about depressing things but they make it enjoyable and people like kelly clarkson and others they are not good they are nothing like steel panther, lep zepplin, Meat Loaf, Motley crue and Def leppard, it makes me feel sad how most people who where born in the 21st century have never heard of them brilliant bands instead they have heard of SHITTY XFACTOR SINGERS AND OTHER SHIT PEOPLE not the proper bands or singers and it is a shame

 

Its all down to opinion though. I love pop music (Kylie, J-Lo etc.) but there is a wide variety of rock music I like too (Within Temptation, Stereophonics)

I have heard of all those bands you mentioned because I am not so closed off that I will hate every genre bar one.

Most under 12s haven't heard of bands that were over long before they were born?

 

I'm 18, I've heard of Led Zeppelin (don't like Stairway To Heaven, and that's it... *sigh*), I rather like Meatloaf, I've heard of Def Leppard, haven't heard of the other two. As has been pointed out in this thread, most people like the music they grow up with. Music taste is subjective, and if people like me, have heard the retro stuff, decided it's not for them, then that should be fine.

I would never try and force my tastes on others. If they want to like X Factor singers, more power to them. X Factor's power is fading anyway.

Which brings me to another point, society is moving forward, technology is moving forward. There is cutting edge technology producing this music, and it really adds a lot of the song when done well. Drummers and guitarists are still in with a job for those who want them, and thousands of people have lost jobs to machines, a lot more than drummers and guitarists have lost to computerised music.

The 'real rock music' fans will, but it's more to differentiate it from other pop than it is other rock, tbh.

 

Genre boundaries are really hard to define at times. In My Head is closer than a lot of other songs to that boundary, but I wouldn't call it pop-rock. More like pop/RnB.

And I can say first-hand that you need much less skill to play a piano than you need to be able to use music production software.

 

With regards to In My Head, I honestly don't know what genre it is at all tbh. :lol: It is like a mixture of everything. Without a doubt one of the most generic songs I've ever heard. It's awful (sorry to anyone who likes it). :( Though the Nicki Minaj remix is more urban-sounding (but still really boring imo).
