Merry Christmas...and Happy Boxing Day!!! :D Hope you've been enjoying the holiday season so far.

 

01 (02) Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons (14-09-06-06-02-01) [6 wks] Wow, didn't expect to see this at #1 for xmas but fair play, it's had a steady climb to the top here! How many points did you give it in BJSC? I wonder if she'll be one to watch in 2012?

 

I'll refer back to the comment you made last week re; you not liking this as much as I do. In BJSC, I gave this 12 points in the semi final but by the time of the final this "only" got 8 points. 'Geronimo' ended up getting my 12 points despite getting 8 points off me in the semi final. It's weird how tracks can continue growing on me post voting. Only in this case the original 12 pointer has ultimately ended up performing the best in the long run. How very fickle of me!!! :lol: I'd really like Charli XCX to get some decent chart success in 2012. 'Nuclear Seasons' is brilliant to me and I also like 'Stay Awake' too.

 

04 (--) Military Wives, Gareth Malone & London Metropolitan Orchestra – Wherever You Are (04) [1 wk] :wub: A strong showing for this which is excellent to see, considering the rest of Buzzjack hate it :drama:

 

Indeed it is although I had a gut feeling from the off that wouldn't be challanging for my top spot. A new entry at #4 is still very good for a song like this. I do like 'Wherever You Are' a lot - it's one of those songs that are perfect for this time of year.

 

06 (--) Emmy The Great & Tim Wheeler - Home For The Holidays (06) [1 wk] I heard a couple of songs from this project via Ghosty and iTunes single of the week, both are pretty nice, even if I didn't like them enough to chart them...

 

I saw this listed on the release schedule and decided to have a listen. This track made an impression, I decided to listen to the song again. It's a brilliant Xmas song, doesn't outstay its welcome (it's less than 3 minutes long) and the chorus just grabbed my attention and refused to let go. One of those tracks that literally "came out of nowhere" as up until last weekend I had no idea that song even existed.

It's looking likely. I don't know where Ben in the UK Chart forum has managed to get the latest iTunes chart. I went on earlier (I got a £15 iTunes goft card for Xmas :cheer: ) so I was checking the tracks chart and Military Wives were showing up as #1 for me. I've yet to actually buy anything but at least my account has been credited. :D Anyways, I discovered today that my neice is a big fan of Alex Day and his mate (Charlie somethingorother? :lol: ) so she actually bought his single last week. As for Delirious? I vaguely remember their moment in the limelight but I never paid close attention to their single so musically, it passed me by quite swiftly.

'Titanium' entered my chart at a time when I was loving so many tracks. It was kept out of the top 2 by 'Video Games' and 'Jealousy' and all three tracks are still in my top 40 (well, Will Young is just hanging on at #40 this week). However, despite not topping my chart, it's clear from its chart run that it's been a very successful song for me.

Yes, it's not The Wanted's best single but compared to 'Heart Vacancy', this is musical genius!!! :lol: I don't really mind this song so it's entry at #38 is good enough for me. Believe it or not, because of the way I compile my chart I still have one more chart week in 2011 (next Saturday is 31st December - that chart was contribute towards my overall Chart of 2011) so the chances of The Wanted making it two weeks inside my top 40 are looking pretty strong. :P

The fact it sounds like a novelty single is what I like about this track. It's clear Rizzle Kicks aren't taking themselves seriously with this track and the main thing is that 'Mama Do The Hump' is catchy and perfect for family parties. Has a very good chance of climbing into my top 10 this weekend.

 

38 (--) The Wanted - Warzone (38) [1 wk] - Hmm, this is finally getting some success, it's a good song, but there's something about this whole era that's not feeling as energetic as their first album. It's growing on me though.

 

Not as energetic? :D How is 'Heart Vacancy' more energetic when it's, imo, their worst single to date with some absolutely dreadful vocals (and this is the studio version I'm talking about :lol: ). If anything, I think their 2011 era has been better all thanks to 'Glad You Came' which whilst I don't think is anywhere near the best #1 of 2011, it definitely their best single to date. 'Lightning' was also decent enough but I'm glad 'We Found Love' kept it off #1 - it was excellent to see a genuine popular single at no. 1 and stay for six weeks.

Their singles this year all feel a little fatiguing, Lightning ended up being my favourite although I do agree it was better that We Found Love kept it off #1. Warzone is good, but they are sounding a bit.. tired on it. It's just a feeling. It's all better than Heart Vacancy at the least.

1. For me, I'd say 'Nuclear Seasons' and '212' have both ended up being my overall faves from BJSC October. Sadly 'Geronimo' has peaked for me and not being able to see any music video on YouTube hasn't helped at all. I also don't think highly of people uploaded pitched audio tracks to get around the whole copyright issues. YouTube was so much better in 2006 before record companies jumped on board and started blocking all these videos. :(

 

11. Totally agree. I didn't mind 'When I Was A Youngster' as it did just sneak into my top 20 but following 'Down With The Trumpets' it was a disappointing follow up single. 'Mama Do The Hump' is a great track. James Corden appearing in the video is sort of funny until he starts looking directly into the camera in a "LOOK AT ME, I'M SUCH AN EGO!!!" kinda way. Then it just grates.

 

38. The Wanted in general have never been a successful act in my chart. The tracks by them I've charted I've only ever liked enough to chart between 21-40. They've yet to score a top 20 single but 'Glad You Came' got closest with a peak of #21.

Nice to see Noel enter high-ish, "If I Had A Gun" is my favourite single off the album. Can't say the same for "These Days" but it has grown on me recently. "Dear Rosemary" looks like joining "Hey, Johnny Park!" and "M.I.A." on the list of great Foos songs that were never singles though.

I've still not bought Foo Fighters album although I got a £15 iTunes gift card for Christmas and have now managed to credit my account. I'm not going to just rush in and buy anything straight away. I'm going to spend a fair amount of time previewing tracks - might end up just cherry picking the songs that sound the best. :lol:

 

On another note, are you not a fan of Charli XCX? I'd have thought it'd be the type of song you would like. Unless you've not heard the song yet.

Well, I loved 'Mercy' back in 2008 and it finished no. 2 in my Chart of 2008. :D So that might explain why I think this track is brilliant. I must admit when I first read the artists involved, I never expected the song to sound like this. I was expecting some typical US Rap nonsense. It was a pleasant surprise. The video is also brilliant - Andre 3000 as a rapping cat. :lol:

There's no denying that 'Video Games' has been one of my ultimate fave songs of 2011. A track that I discovered via BJSC and when I first listened to the song, I was transfixed. So much so I played the song about 3 times on a loop. Very rarely a track that much of an instant impact. I was really glad this made the UK top 10. It's now doing incredibly in several European countries. As for Gotye, I'm not sure whether he will break the record. 'Somebody That I Used To Know' could well equal the record though - only needs two more weeks in the top 20 to achieve that.

On UK music channels, it sometimes tells you which artist is coming up next. In this case it said "Up Next: David Guetta" so I was expecting 'Without You' to be the next video. As the video started and I realised it was 'Titanium' I got a little bit excited that a music video had been made. It's interesting but it lacks the energy of previous Guetta videos. Lots of people dancing, nice scenery, etc. Whereas the video to 'Titanium' doesn't really add much to the song. It would've been more suitable to have Guetta make a cameo appearance and show Sia singing the song at some point.

Oh, I really didn't like 'Go' at all. :( The way she sings the parts taken from 'Ain't Nobody' sound dreadful to me. It just sounded like Delilah was desperately trying too hard to sound cool and credible. For me, the whole song just fell so flat to the point I thought it was lifeless. Personally, I think 'Love You So' is a vast improvement.

No I haven't. :lol: I've only heard the album version that is used in the music video. Although Katy Perry performed an acoustic version of 'TOTGA' on The X Factor. I was that impressed with her acoustic performance, that led to the track entering my chart at #13. The track peaked at no. 10 the week when the music video was released.

Definitely!!! :D 'Born To Die' is already looking set to be my first big hit of 2012. I genuinely think Lana Del Rey is going to be a successful in 2012 as Lady GaGa was in 2009. Lana will OWN next year.

I've not listened to Charli XCX yet, I'll have a look on Youtube later. I'd recommend the Foos album (you really liked "Rope", didn't you?) as the first half in particular is fantastic and pretty varied between up-tempo stadium fillers, mid-tempos and heavier tracks. The second half is strong as well, although bits seem a bit filler-ish on first listen everything has a decent hook to it.

It was great. Christmas usually is a great time because it's the only time when I get to see loads of my family. I'm also happy that I'm not rushing back to work next Tuesday. I can actually enjoy having two weeks off - get plenty of lie ins and just be lazy generally. :lol:

I found the BBC Sound of 2012 poll underwhelming. :( There aren't many acts on there I can actually see doing well in the long run. I think it says everything when The Brit Awards are giving their Critics Choice Award 2012 to Emeli Sandé who has already had a chart topper and reasonably successful UK #2 single. I think 2012 is gonig to be like 2009 with loads of other countries artists dominating the UK charts. The Americans will be out in force led by Lana Del Rey. Australia have Gotye. New Zealand have Kimbra. Europe...who knows. Maybe Michel Teló will have a shock UK #1 if British media have a slow news day. :lol:

I've found myself getting bored of the track quite quickly. :( The video doesn't help either. It's just all very much there and doing very little. Lady GaGa really hasn't lived up to expectations, imo, in 2011. GaGa owned my chart in 2009 with 4 #1 singles but this year 'The Edge Of Glory' was the only single that got close to #1 but still wasn't quite strong enough to hit the top spot.

Yes I did. :lol: I didn't like 'Mikrofonkat' as it all sounded a bit weird to me in Swedish. So it wasn't anything to do with not understanding the lyrics, it's just the Swedish lyrics and pronounciation sounded strange to me. Therefore I ended up liking the UK version more but again like 'Marry The Night' it's a song I got bored of really fast.

I update my points database each week but never look at the database in points order. I like to surprise myself at the end of the year whilst I'm counting down my own chart. Makes things more interesting for myself as well as others. :D
