Ooh, lovely to see Rebekka Karijord so high up.

Β

I think, at least one more Katzenjammer song, and Kati Wolf I think? Can't think of the others. I'll take a guess at there being at least one mainstream hit though.

That Sara Bareilles sharp decline from #1 is a run worthy of my chart

Β

I'm running out of free time recently but will definitely comment on the whole thing when you're done!

, I think Sara's chart run will probably even out a bit more over the next couple of weeks at least as I've been playing it quite a bit recently!

Β

That's cool! I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about it! :D

Mimi Blix - Allergic

Date of Entry: 23/01/11

Chart Run: 2-1-2-3-4-8-25-32-37-45-OUT

Β

Β

Opening the top 10 is a fabulous pop track from the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix Eurovision selection. Allergic is the debut single from model turned singer, Mimi Blix. As soon as I heard the preview for this track, I knew it was going to be immense, but her live vocal was a lot better than expected and it really should have reached the final of MGP at least. Instead, it crashed out in the second chance round.

Another Caerfyrddia BJSC entry is up next. The Danish singer finished in 15th place in XXXVI and was deemed the only Caerfyrddian entry worthy of a place in the recent TBO semi finals. Alle De Lykkelige Kærester, which translates as All The Happy Lovers, is a thunderous electro-dance track with an insanely catchy hook. It was one of the longer running number ones on my chart this year, spending 5 weeks at the top!

At number 8 is the single which marked the return of Dutch metal act, Within Temptation. Faster was the debut release from The Unforgiving and is up there amongst some of the best tracks this fantastic group have released.

My very first number one of 2011 is at #7. Because You Can is a divine europop anthem from one of Iceland's finest singers and former Eurovision representative, Hera BjΓΆrk. The song is taken from her Je Ne Sais Quoi album, a tremendous LP filled with more exciting and exuberant pop tunes.

Sara Varga - Spring FΓΆr Livet

Spring FΓΆr Livet was one of last year's highlights from the Melodifestivalen. It reached the final after qualifying from the second chance round. The lyrics tell a painful story, but the overall impression of the track is an uplifting one. It's taken from the equally brilliant album of the same name.

Faster <3 I remember how OBSESSED I was when this premiered. Remains one of their best for sure.

Same, I went off it a bit briefly as I'd overplayed it, but I love it again now! :D

Loreen - Sober

Date of Entry: 18/09/11

Chart Run: 1-2-2-1-2-3-3-3-7-12-23-27-23-24-27-

Β

Β

Sober was the second single from former Swedish Idol contestant, Loreen. It followed on from her Melodifestivalen entry, My Heart Is Refusing Me (which is still to come, will it be number one?). An album will hopefully surface sometime next year following her forthcoming highly anticipated return to the Melodifestivalen contest.

Pretty certain I know the top four now, not entirely sure what order they'll appear in but I'll hazard a guess at;

Β

1. Melodifestivalen song

2. Celine Dion/Delta in 15 years lookalike

3. Swedish Idol 2005 winner

4. Norwegian alt-pop-folk band

Katzenjammer - I Will Dance (When I Walk Away)

Date of Entry: 14/08/11

Chart Run: [1-2-3-3-1-2-4-4-4-4-9-6-8-9-14-22-31-29-30-44-

Β

Β

The third and final entry from Norwegian girl group, Katzenjammer is at number 4. I Will Dance was the lead single from their second album and saw the group embark on an international breakthrough targeting central Europe with moderate success. This single went top 40 in Germany while the album peaked at number 7 there.

Oh good, first one right! I'm sure they could do a 'Caro Emerald' if pushed enough in the UK, or at least an 'Imelda May'!

I was watching Jools Holland last night and thinking how amazing Katzenjammer would have been on it! Maybe next year, I think A Kiss Before You Go is getting a release here in 2012, so fingers crossed! At least Caro Emerald was on the show last night, she did an amazing cover of Mad About The Boy

Agnes - Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Date of Entry: 25/09/11

Chart Run: 1-1-2-3-2-2-1-2-3-3-6-7-8-7-

Β

Β

Currently enjoying a 14 week unbroken stint in my top 10 weekly chart, but finishing in third place here is the monumental (in my opinion) return from Swedish Idol winner, Agnes. Although this track may not be as epic as Release Me was, you cannot deny how fine and perfectly crafted this pop song is. It's only downfall is the shoddy intro, but the final chorus is simply sensational and the strings are pure pop perfection.

Oh that is a good cover, I was wondering why Caro's album had shot up Amazon and iTunes today! Still surprised she's never reappeared in BJSC after I sent her :o

Β

Don't Go Breaking My Heart is very good, I haven't overplayed it enough to get that bored of it so if she ever did decide to release a new version of it and replace that crap intro with 'Agnes strings' then I could easily see it re-entering my top five, it's annoying that I'm put off so much by it - irrational but I can't help it! Still, it's a pleasing start to the top three, and 2/2 so far :D

It is a surprise, especially in between A Night Like This being entered and Caro's career taking off in the UK! I think we might have to veto anything new she releases now though.

Β

I understand your frustration, lucikly I'm not too put off by the intro, but I do have irrational dislikes to aspects of some other songs - usually due to poor vocal recordings as I've said before.

Loreen - My Heart Is Refusing Me

Date of Entry: 13/02/11

Chart Run: 14-6-2-1-2-1-1-1-2-4-10-15-23-23-9-7-7-7-9-12-12-16-14-21-35-44-51-OUT

Β

Β

So the runner up of 2011 is the striking and dazzling debut single from Loreen. This was her entry into the Swedish Melodifestivalen where it qualified to the second chance round, but failed to make the final, mainly because it was drawn against the second best song in the whole competition (imo, of course) and eventual qualifier, Spring FΓΆr Livet. Despite not making the final, My Heart Is Refusing Me went on to become one of the biggest hits from Melodifestivalen in the Swedish charts, outperforming a huge number of the finalists, and thus Loreen will be returning to the contest this year with Euphoria. Let's hope it's a good one!

Β

And so my single of the year is:

Kati Wolf - What About My Dreams?

Date of Entry: 13/03/11

Chart Run: 16-7-4-3-3-2-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-3-5-6-6-5-9-9-14-15-14-22-23-27-30-37-41-38-43-55-39-33-35-40-54-49-42-58-45-

Β

Β

Yes, Eurovision wins through on my EOY chart again and Dame Kati Wolf of Hungary comes top of my countdown with her entry, the fan favourite, "What About My Dreams?". It was a huge hit on my chart and is currently spending it's 42nd week on it. I had my doubts about it making the final as her live vocal was a little all over the place, but thankfully it did, if only to finish in 23rd place :( .

Β

Despite being quite the euroflop, I still absolutely adore it - especially in it's extended form. Having that second verse just adds so much more

Β

I shall rattle through the albums soon!

Ah, yes. I always thought Kati was one of the better Eurovision songs this year, I hardly listened to it after the contest though. Good (and I did think it might well be) #1 though.

Β

Loving seeing Loreen (both songs) and Agnes in the rest of the top 5 also.

Β

I see I was wrong about there being a mainstream hit. :kink: Thought I'd play my chances, anyway. :D
