iamamiwhoami - ; john

Date of Entry: 22/05/11

Chart Run: 3-4-2-4-6-13-18-21-22-26-58-OUT

iamamiwhoami is a Swedish project fronted by singer, Jonna Lee. ; john was released in May this year and marked a second era in the acts musical journey following the BOUNTY videos. It is not known how long this project and concept will run for, or if it will ever return at all, but one things for sure, this has been the most captivating and exciting artistic and musical project I've ever come across.

Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes

Date of Entry: 06/02/11

Chart Run: 15-13-15-10-6-7-9-8-8-18-18-23-28-OUT

Swedish schlager at it's absolute finest! It's just so ABBA that it sounds like it's been lifted straight from the Voulez-Vous album! Something In Your Eyes competed in Melodifestivalen 2011 where it got through to the second chance round before being beaten by the RedOne produced Dance Alone by Love Generation.

I really thought that Something In Your Eyes was destined to be a huge #1 for you when I first heard it, knowing both how much you loved A Place To Stay last year and knowing how much you love schlager, of which this is a perfect example. Surprised at both the fact that it never made your weekly top five and that it finished lower (well, by one place!) in your EOY chart than mine :o

It should have been huge, but as minimal as it seems, I think I was put off by the incomplete first chorus :drama: . I still love it though, and it really should have been a top 3 hit on my chart at least, but #33 is about right for it in this chart.

That's right, I remember you saying before.

Poor Jenny, always some niggling issue with her songs, who can forget the missing bar in A Place To Stay, irrationally annoyed me a surprising amount

, the funny thing is that didn't annoy me quite as much, but it was certainly noticeable!

B-A-B-E - (Itsie Bitsie Boe) Geef Maar Lekker Toe!

Date of Entry: 10/04/11

Chart Run: 54-34-8-2-5-20-8-5-6-10-13-24-46-OUT

Yes, it's the biggest and best hilarious hot mess around and it's at #32. It was my choice of entry for BJSC XXXIV where it finished last in the semi final (How?! :drama: ) but it almost qualified for the Rejects contest recently where it missed out by just one point. B-A-B-E are a Belgian trio of models/"singers", Itsie Bitsie Boe appears to be their first and will probably remain their only release. :(

Stella Mwangi - Haba Haba

Date of Entry: 30/01/11

Chart Run: 41-5-7-10-18-24-26-27-28-28-6-5-3-3-2-5-11-13-13-14-20-32-33-37-OUT

Just missing out on a place in the top 30 is the Swahili flavoured Norwegian Eurovision entry by Stella Mwangi. It's one of those songs that never fails to make you smile, but sadly it failed to connect as well with the audience on the Eurovision stage as it did in MGP and it failed to make the Eurovision final.

, the funny thing is that didn't annoy me quite as much, but it was certainly noticeable!

I just re-listened to that song following that comment (from the Melodifestivalen box set - a surprising inclusion :o) and it still annoys me, probably because I know exactly when it's coming  I wonder if a few bars were cut out to keep it within the time limit? If it happened at ANY other part of the song too then I'd understand it more but it's literally only in one part of one chorus, bizarre editing.

Haba Haba completely missed my top 100, I didn't even consider it in fact, despite it peaking at #6 in my weekly chart - guess it shows how quickly I got bored of it. Babel Fish very nearly made the top 100 but MGP was useless this year so it didn't deserve to have any songs in my top 100

I imagine that must have been the reason! You'd think they'd have chopped the intro down a bit instead!

Haba Haba was great I thought, and there were a few gems amongst a generally dismal selection in MGP this year. Vardlokk, Haba Haba and one other that's yet to appear in this countdown were my favourites, but I also quite liked the songs from Sichelle, Marika and particularly Hanne who also just missed out on the top 50 along with Helene.

It would have made sense

Regardless, Haba Haba deserved to make the ESC final and I'm shocked at how badly it did in the end. I'd forgotten about most of those songs, it genuinely feels like a lifetime ago! I did like Hanne's song come to think of it, although it had completely slipped my mind! Half of the finalists were genuine WTF moments!

Ah yes, I was wondering what the other MGP song was that's still to come but having looked back on my iTunes it's completely obvious really. It was the Loreen of MGP, everyone else loved it whilst I only liked it :(

I'm also really shocked it was nowhere near qualifying, I thought it was a dead cert - I even predicted a win for it

I'm shocked the song in question was never entered to BJSC. I don't think anyone even attempted to enter it! It surely would have got a top 5 place. I briefly considered sending it, but thought it was a little cheap :kink:

Emma's Imagination - This Day

Date of Entry: 19/09/10

Chart Run: 34-33-22-18-20-28-46-56-8 Weeks Out-11-1-3-4-8-27-54-OUT

A wonderful acoustic pop track from the winner of Sky 1's Must Be The Music. This Day was the debut release from Emma's Imagination and was released in it's full form at the beginning of 2011 where it re-entered my chart and stormed to the top spot a week later.

Agnes Obel - Riverside

Date of Entry: 02/01/11

Chart Run: 14-3-5-12-24-38-50-OUT

Another hit from the early days of 2011 came from Danish singer, Agnes Obel. Riverside is an emotion driven, atmospheric piano ballad which deservedly romped to victory for Batidas in BJSC XXXIII.

Duran Duran - The Man Who Stole A Leopard

Date of Entry: 31/07/11

Chart Run: 2-4-6-7-10-15-26-34-47-56-OUT

At #28 is what is undoubtedly the best song from the recent Duran Duran LP. The Man Who Stole A Leopard, which features guest vocals from Kelis, almost certainly doffs it's cap to the classic DD track, The Chauffeur, from the Rio album. This song was never officially released as a single, but I entered it into an online song contest where it finished in 9th place, and hence it qualified to enter my singles chart and this EOY chart. A truly stunning song from the New Romantic pioneers!

Timoteij - Het

Date of Entry: 22/05/11

Chart Run: 1-2-5-11-17-23-28-36-42-60-OUT

Het marked the highly anticipated return of Swedish female folkpop act, Timoteij. It's the first single from their forthcoming sophomore release and is a fantabulous continuation from their debut album. Timoteij will return in 2012 in the annual Melodifestivalen contest where they will compete to earn the privilege of representing their homeland in the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku.

Bermudaz - Dreaming Of Bermuda

Date of Entry: 09/01/11

Chart Run: 5-3-1-2-1-4-5-11-30-52-OUT

Icelandic group, Bermudaz, fronted by Iris Holm, are at #26 with the summer infused dancepop anthem, Dreaming Of Bermuda. This was my choice of entry for Caerfyrddia for the 31st BJSC at the start of this year.

Little Majorette - Never Be The Same

Date of Entry: 15/05/11

Chart Run: 2-4-3-4-9-10-20-24-28-33-52-OUT

Never Be The Same was the second single from the Swedish pop trio's album, Rifle Heart. It's a triumphant piece of electro-pop with stunning piano interludes and a haunting chorus.

Same Difference feat. Alcazar - Karma Karma

Date of Entry: 13/02/11

Chart Run: 1-2-5-9-21-36-42-52-OUT

At #24 is a perfect pure pop pair in the shape of a collaboration between British brother/sister duo, Same Difference and Swedish pop trio Alcazar. Karma Karma is a fantastic track which was released on Same Difference's second album and really should have been entered to Eurovision this year, or Melodifestivalen at least!

Date of Entry: 10/04/11

Chart Run: 1-1-2-6-27-38-34-40-41-36-38-52-OUT

2011 saw the return of Norwegian folk quartet, Katzenjammer. Lady Marlene is a track from their second album, A Kiss Before You Go. It was my choice of entry for BJSC XXXIII where it finished in 9th place.

HandS - No Romance

Date of Entry: 28/08/11

Chart Run: 1-2-3-4-6-8-11-23-41-OUT

A fantastic electro-pop track now from Swedish duo, HandS. Formerly of twee-pop group, Micropops, No Romance sees HandS go down the synth route with fabulous results! Hopefully an album is just around the corner, if so, it could be one of the best new releases of 2012.

Oh Land - Sun Of A Gun

Date of Entry: 06/02/11

Chart Run: 12-8-9-13-18-15-12-6-4-13-17-17-19-OUT

Along with Jenny Silver's Something In Your Eyes, Sun Of A Gun is one of my biggest regrets as far as it's chart performance goes. It really should have been #1 for at least a week, but instead it stalled at #4 :( . Oh Land is Danish singer, Nanna Øland Fabricius, and Sun Of A Gun was the first single from her second album. I'm quite surprised it failed to take off in the UK, as it's a highly catchy little pop number!

So before we start the top 20, here's a recap of number's 50-21:

50. Caro Emerald - The Other Woman

49. Bodies Of Water - Like A Stranger

48. Daruso - When The Morning Comes

47. Elisa Tovati & Tom Dice - Il Nous Faut

46. Bellowhead - New York Girls

45. Medina - For Altid

44. The Sound Of Arrows - Wonders

43. Marigold - You And I Know

42. The Saturdays - All Fired Up

41. Patrick Wolf - Together

40. Rachel Platten - 1000 Ships

39. Sanna Nielsen - I'm In Love

38. Eric Saade - Popular

37. Elin Lanto - Funeral

36. I Am A Camera - Endless Storm

35. Within Temptation - Sinéad

34. iamamiwhoami - ; john

33. Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes

32. B-A-B-E - (Itsie Bitsie Boe) Geef Maar Lekker Toe!

31. Stella Mwangi - Haba Haba

30. Emma's Imagination - This Day

29. Agnes Obel - Riverside

Radio Killer - Lonely Heart

Date of Entry: 29/05/11

Chart Run: 16-12-6-8-11-8-3-3-5-6-9-13-11-19-26-35-42-58-OUT

Kicking off the top 20 is a very fine Romanian dance track, Lonely Heart. A BJSC discovery, it became a favourite of mine very quickly! In hindsight, it should have been a number one hit on my chart, but it'll have to settle for 2 weeks at #3.

#19

Raluka - Out Of Your Business

Date of Entry: 10/07/11

Chart Run: 9-2-3-5-6-5-4-5-13-20-28-36-42-39-40-52-37-36-36-41-OUT

From one Romanian dance track to another, and Raluka wins the battle with her fantastic tune, Out Of Your Business. It was very nearly a BJSC entry for Caerfyrddia, but was pipped by a song yet to appear in this countdown. Maybe Out Of Your Business will appear at some point in the future...

Date of Entry: 12/06/11

Chart Run: 3-1-2-4-8-8-10-13-17-24-19-17-17-31-35-38-53-OUT

America would make for a lovely Girls Aloud track, but for now we have this magnificent version by Swedish pop maestros, Le Kid. It's a delightful track throughout, but that middle 8 is pop perfection defined!

#17

Nightwish - Storytime

Date of Entry: 20/11/11

Chart Run: 2-1-3-2-2-3-

Currently betwixt and between a six week run in the top 3 is the theatrical comeback single from Finnish symphonic metal act, Nightwish. Storytime is a dramatic rock track with glorious orchestral pieces and some subtle ABBA-esque tones fused together to great effect! It's the lead single from Imaginaerum, an album which will accompany a forthcoming film.

Lena - Taken By A Stranger

Date of Entry: 13/02/11

Chart Run: 5-3-1-3-4-6-7-9-16-12-13-17-13-9-10-9-11-12-14-21-27-40-OUT

This (and last) year's German Eurovision entrant, Lena, is at #16 with the highly mysterious Taken By A Stranger. It went on to finish in a respectable 10th place at the final, a second top 10 finish in a row for Germany following a draught of success in the contest.

#15

Katzenjammer - Rock-Paper-Scissors

Date of Entry: 20/11/11

Chart Run: 1-2-2-4-5-5-

At #15 is a current top 5 hit on my chart is the second single from Katzenjammer's second album. Sadly, thanks to their German record contract, sourcing a decent video of the song on Youtube is a pretty impossible task so that live video above will have to do. It is a lovely song though.

Ane Brun - Do You Remember

Date of Entry: 05/06/11

Chart Run: 16-2-2-1-2-7-12-24-36-35-42-48-OUT

My BJSC entry for XXXV is at #14. Do You Remember was the lead single from Ane Brun's album, It All Starts With One. A very rhythmic song, but it did come with a very odd video!

#13

Sara Bareilles - Gonna Get Over You

Date of Entry: 02/10/11

Chart Run: 6-3-5-6-5-4-1-4-8-13-25-29-43-

Gonna Get Over You is one of my favourite surprises of the year. I really didn't think Sara Bareilles would grace my chart again, let alone gain a number one! Gonna Get Over You is an infectiously happy pop tune with a fantastic video - my favourite video of the year actually!

Gabrielle - Bordet

Date of Entry: 23/10/11

Chart Run: 1-1-2-4-6-5-8-11-9-8-

A fabulous dancepop track from Norway now courtesy of Gabrielle. I entered this into BJSC XXXIX where it came 12th. There's not much to say about this track really, other than that it's awesome :D

#11

Rebekka Karijord - Wear It Like A Crown

Date of Entry: 09/01/11

Chart Run: 1-2-4-10-25-35-55-30 Weeks Out-14-15-19-37-OUT

From one BJSC entry to another, and just missing out on a place in the top 10 is the mesmerising piano ballad from another Norwegian, Rebekka Karijord. This finished in 11th place in XXXVIII, but it was at the very beginning of 2011 that I originally fell in love with this track.

So, we have 10 songs left. They come from 7 soloists and 2 groups and the 9 acts come from 7 different countries. Care to have a guess at who may appear?

Here's a recap of numbers 50-11:

50. Caro Emerald - The Other Woman
