Kicking off the big 10 with an artist that, had I been doing charts back then, would have been here every week between about 1999-2009 :lol: He took a little break in recent years and unexpectedly came back with one of the greatest pop albums of the year, by working with Richard X, Kish Mauve, Groove Armada and The Sound Of Arrows. This is my favourite remix of the track, which annoyingly never got commercially released, whether it's because of the Robyn similarities I don't know...

My absolute favourite Gaga single of the year, and the BBC Big Weekend performance was one of the most memorable of the year even though I wasn't there :lol: I will see her live in the next year. How I will do that, is up to her :kink:

Another lady that defined at least the early part of 2011 for me, this song was on a car ad and was danced to on Dancing On Ice, so what went wrong? Well given that she started out supporting Hurts it's ironic that she seems to have fallen into the same pattern as them - critical acclaim and great original music but without being bandwagony enough to have huge sales, even in Europe (and that's where they differ). Yes she has the name of a soap actress and the voice of a foghorn but imagine how much richer the charts would be if she was in Jessie J's position...

Probably my second least favourite Gaga single this era, so how does it end up here? Well firstly the chart is based on points, so anything could happen here :lol: Secondly I guess it's the video, that Jo Calderone is hottttttt. Could use a beard though :kink: Obviously it was this Shania-Twain-esque guilty pleasure of a remix that got most of the airplay round these parts...

6. COLDPLAY Paradise (Peak: 2x1, Weeks: 16*, Points: 855)

 

 

You're right, that isn't Coldplay above, it's Fedde Le Grand, who was responsible for at least some of this song's longevity in my chart, epseically when I was trying to make a radio edit of this mix, not realising that this video existed -_- Anyhoo, this song debuted more or less as song as I heard it, and it's quite an untypical song for them, really more Ryan Tedder than anything else, but the hilarious video and the excellent album kept it in the upper echelons of my chart, and it's still in my top 3!

5. Getter JAANI Rockefeller Street (Peak: 1x1, Weeks: 17, Points: 872)

 

 

Bet you thought that was it for the Eurovision onslaught :kink: Think again, because this uber-cute Britney wannabe from uber-mental Estonia has smashed her way into my top 5 of last year! I really knew how to pick them in Dusseldorf, and yes I am being ironic. Not only did I bet on Albania and Norway, this was my favourite song by far and it came dead last :( Added to that forgetting to bet on Italy and a winner that I couldn't stand (well it peaked at #32 and spent one week on) I'm hoping that Baku will be better. As for Getter she popped her collar and went on to release a great little pop album including the excellent Robot, which I somehow never charted :o

4. Alexandra STAN Mr Saxobeat (Peak: 3, Weeks: 24 , Points: 945) years longest runner

 

 

The euro beat goes on now with the biggest Romanian invasion hit of the year in my chart, the UK and across the world. I really didn't get the fuss with this song when it was first released ("doesn't Buzzjack have enough Alexandra stans already?") but over time, with it's UK success, it's entry in BJSC and it's general catchiness it became my longest runner of the year. Unfortunately the (somewhat inferior) follow up single flopped in the UK (and in my chart to an extent) and single three has made no impact anywhere so far... Not so much the new Inna as the new O-Zone I guess then...

3. ADELE Set Fire To The Rain (Peak: 3x1, Weeks: 23, Points: 955)

 

 

Nope, Rolling wasn't the lady's last showing in my chart this year, it was down to this epic track, probably my second favourite of the album behind Rumour Has It (no matter what the stats say). An excellent remix package and her constant airplay and chart success plus not a lot going on around the same time (!) meant that this got 3 weeks at #1 long before the Will Young/Olly Murs onslaught and a couple of other big ones... you'll find out who next!

2. Aloe BLACC I Need A Dollar (Peak: 3x1, Weeks: 21, Points: 965)

 

 

Up until the end of November this was far ahead of the pack and looked like it was going to top my chart of the year. It's certainly one of my favourite tracks of the year, and spent longer in my top 5 than any other song in 2001, nine weeks! It's reminiscent of the music that my parents brought me up on, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder etc. and I considered doing it for my The Voice audition but changed at the last minute. The lyrics tapped perfectly into the recession crisis, which has lead to people saying that Aloe will be a one hit wonder. I don't think so, but I don't think he'll be back on the charts in the UK at least till the second album. As for my chart, who knows? :kink:

 

So who took over from Mr Blacc to be my #1 song of the year? Find out very soon!

Of course! What else could it be? I won't be the first and I'm probably not the last to announce this song, which despite sounding nothing like the prevailing musical trends of the year came to define it in so many ways. The Voice was one of my favourite shows of the year, and when I saw this performance I wasn't honestly that taken with it, it seemed a little weak and old fashioned. But once I heard the studio version I was in love. Then I saw the video and was even more so (with the video, the concept and with Adam :wub:) Then I sang it at karaoke, and then I heard they were doing a UK version of the Voice, which I auditioned for. No I didn't sing this, and no I didn't get through but all the radio shows, all the parties, and all the memories of this year will inevitably lead back to this song. Thank you Maroon 5 and thank you for Christina, I can't wait for the latter's comeback :D Not only the longest running #1 of the year, but the longest running song of the year. Congratulations M5 :cheer:

2. I sort of see what you're going there, but really it sounds nothing like it :lol:

24 I really don't know, though it was difficult to bring over the vocals properly on stage and I'm not sure the staging worked. But it should have AT LEAST been top 10.

01 - I think because I haven't connected with the song in the same way others have, it shocks me slightly when I see it as an EOY #1. It makes sense though given the chart run it's had with you!

24 - The staging was awful, as were the outfits, but I agree that it definitely should have been top 10!

36 - Indeed, I only found out today that Heidi's doing Dancing On Ice :drama: . Maybe Jade should just do Eurovision again this year!

50 - I won't be charting either of Suus or Sinplus for a while yet. I listened to that Sinplus track properly today - he really needs to sort out his pronunciation! "Swim against the stream" becomes "Sweam against the strim" with him!

I'm curious, what would you have chosen for second single from Will's album if not Come On? I adore the song, it was the standout track from first listen for me (and it took me AGES to realise it was a cover of the Kish Mauve track).
