January 3, 201214 yr They go to everyone - writers, performers, producers, label etc. etc. Just the proportion varies. Oh, I thought royalties were exclusively a songwriter thing. I learned something today :magic:
January 3, 201214 yr Royal Albert Hall concert? :D That'll explain why 'Someone Like You' is back up to #18 at the moment on iTunes. The way this single is selling (and is likely to continue selling throughout 2012) it may be much closer to 2 million sales by the end of the year. Approaching 2 million sales seems very optimistic to me. It's sold around 250k in the last 6 months, I can't see it selling 250k in the next 6 months, let alone the 6 months after that. Even then if it somehow maintained that rate it would still put it on just 1.75m. I think sales will eventually level off at around 1.5m.
January 3, 201214 yr Id much rather Coldplay hold number 1 in the singles but i dont think it will happen now but stranger things have happened, olly murs holding on well with dance with me tonight, Great to see James Vincent McMorrow and Imelda may both on the charts aswell, im assuming the imelda album is more mayhem?
January 3, 201214 yr 'Someone Like You' could reach 2 million copies IF it sells consistently throughout 2012 (not dropping out of the top 75), is performed on shows such as The Voice, Britain's Got Talent, Dancing On Ice (could possibly be danced to this series) and of course The X Factor, benefits from Adele's BRIT performance (regardless of song performed) and is possibly shown on an advert. :P

January 3, 201214 yr Hopefully Adele will get at least 3 weeks at number one so she gets TWENTY ONE WEEKS at NUMBER ONE for TWENTY ONE
January 3, 201214 yr Its about time we moved on from buying that Adele album now isnt it :/ Its not even that good an album, completely overrated as is SLY
January 3, 201214 yr I'm surprised the Rizzles aren't higher in the singles with MDTH. It's taken so long to chimb despite a high iTunes position. Clearly it's not selling as well on other sites and if it does have a second version, it's not selling much.
January 3, 201214 yr Unless there's a deluxe version of 'Stereo Typical', it's just the one version of 'Mama do the Hump' being downloaded. The EP contained remixes, but no radio edit/single version of the single itself. It's looking likely to be their highest peaking single now, #6 in the midweeks - which is a shame, 'Down With the Trumpets' was such a good breakthrough single - and this is how they follow it up.
January 3, 201214 yr It's bizarre how JLS decided on January for the full release of their song, which is heavily based on a Christmas song! Perhaps they're hoping people don't know? Come to think of it, perhaps THEY don't know...

There's certainly only one version in the iTunes top 200 at the moment. (Currently at #4.) It's not how they're following up 'Down With The Trumpets' though; that was 'When I Was A Youngster', which also made #8.
January 3, 201214 yr Until very recently Rizzle Kicks were still behind Olly Murs, Labrinth and Rihanna combined on iTunes (and they're still only barely ahead of Olly combined and likely also not that far ahead of Labrinth when combining his 3rd version outside the T100) so I'm not surprised at their lowish position in the mids compared to iTunes. I think they could get top 5 by the end of the week but Taio is likely to overtake them and maybe Jessie as well if she gets a big top 10 effect which will make it harder for them.
January 3, 201214 yr Where abouts is Rihanna's latest single - You da one? I hope its not top10. Awful song.
January 4, 201214 yr Its about time we moved on from buying that Adele album now isnt it :/ Its not even that good an album, completely overrated as is SLY People like what they like but I find it so unexciting to see this at the top of the album chart again. I think SLY has nice words but was over played to the point of nausea until I could no longer bear her voice. I don't have the album as I'm not a fan but my best friend bought it and rarely plays it as she only liked a couple of the songs. I do wonder if people are buying it off the back of the massive singles and airplay but in years to come will it be considered a great album?

January 4, 201214 yr Author Midweek Sales update: Adele looking to break four-decade chart record Source: MW 10:59 | Wednesday January 4, 2012 By Paul Williams Adele’s 21 will become the UK’s longest-running chart-topping album in more than 40 years if it returns to number one as expected this coming Sunday. The XL album currently has a lead of 5,453 units to head the artist albums market at this stage of the week, according to the Official Charts Company, with Elektra/Atlantic act Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans in second place. It has previously spent 18 non-consecutive weeks at number one, equalling the uninterrupted run of the original soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever between May and September 1978, but will go one better if it climbs back to the top this weekend. This would make it the UK’s lengthiest album chart-topper since Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water accumulated 33 weeks at number one during eight runs between 1970 and 1971. The Adele album’s sales are 30.9% up on the week up to the end of trading on Tuesday with demand having increased following BBC One screening her Royal Albert Hall concert on New Year’s Day. It was at number six on last Sunday’s chart, having been named as the UK’s biggest-selling album of 2011. First album 19 is also on the rise again, up 141% on the week and is currently the week’s 16th biggest artist album, having been at number 40 on last week’s countdown. There continues to be a close battle to top the singles chart this Sunday with the Atlantic-issued Good Feeling by Flo Rida around 4,000 units ahead of Parlophone act Coldplay’s Paradise, which climbed to number one last Sunday. Epic act Olly Murs is a further few thousand sales behind in third position with Dance With Me Tonight. Singles 1 Flo Rida (4,000 ahead) 2 Coldplay 3 Olly Murs Albums 1 Adele (5,453 ahead} 2 Bruno

I do wonder if people are buying it off the back of the massive singles and airplay but in years to come will it be considered a great album? I finally got the album for Christmas (I thought it would be for the best if I didn't buy it until the hype died out) and I have to say it is actually a brilliant album - especially the first half. The singles are incredible, 'Turning Tables', 'He Won't Go', 'Do You Remember?' and 'Rumour Has It' are brilliant album tracks. I've only listened to the other tracks once so far so I can't really remember them but I know at the time I thought they were really good. Definitely a solid album and I would definitely consider it a great album both now and in years to come.
