Posted January 21, 201213 yr I've been listening to some old Sugarland albums recently and I've been wanting to discover some new country music to add to my rather unimpressive selection. At present my collection consists of the following Entire Albums Dixie Chicks (Wide Open Spaces, Fly, Taking The Long Way) Sugarland (Twice The Speed Of Light, Enjoy The Ride, Love on The Inside) Dolly Parton :P (Greatest Hits) LeAnn Rimes (Family) A Few songs Gretchen Wilson (Politicaly Uncorrect, Redneck Woman, All Jacked Up) Miranda Lambert (Baggage Claim, Over You) Kellie Pickler (I Wonder) Carrie Underwood (Before He Cheats) What are everybody's favourite Country Songs/Albums/Artists?
January 22, 201213 yr Well you do have a good start with country ^_^ I would recommend some more of Carrie Underwood's stuff, particularly: Flat On The Floor Inside Your Heaven Jesus Take The Wheel Wasted Last Name Cowboy Cassanova In fact, Carnival Ride and Some Hearts are two of my top 5 albums ever! And Miranda Lambert is my 2nd fave country singer, her best songs are: Gunpowder & Lead White Liar Kerosene Crazy Ex-Girlfriend The House That Built Me Heart Like Mine Revolution is in my top 10 albums of all time. Also Kellie Pickler has two great albums (and another coming out in America in 2 days!) And finally Martina McBride's Concrete Angel and Independence Day  I could literally go on forever so I'll stop now :P
January 22, 201213 yr :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Country music. Where do I start. I absolutely love it. The best thing about it are the lyrics. The songs are very simply structured, but the lyrics make it or break it. I'm a real Emmylou Harris fan and I hope to see her live someday. She was in the Netherlands last year but I missed out on it :( I really hate the underappreciation of a good country song in the part of the world that is not the USA. Dolly Parton's greatest hits is a good place to start. I don't know alot by her but ''Jolene'' is a popular song here in the Netherlands and ''I Will Always Love You'' was later obviously famously covered (and murdered) by Whitney Houston. A few of my favorite songs : ''Smoke Along the Track'' - Stonewall Jackson [love the lyrics of this one] ''Makin' Plans'' - Dolly, Linda & Emmylou [heartbreaking] ''Coat of Many Colors'' - Dolly Parton [so touching] ''Lake Charles'' - Lucinda Williams [one of the most beautiful choruses ever written] ''Pretty Good at Drinkin' Beer'' - Billy Currington [this song is so much fun] ''Where the Devil Don't Stay'' - The Drive-By Truckers [a little more rock-y but close enough :P] ''Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette'' - Tex Williams [just 'cause of the hilarious lyrics, sounds very old but heyho that's because it is] ''Like Strangers'' - Emmylou Harris [beautifully sung] ''The Only Thing That I Have Left'' - George Strait [love the song structure] ''Return of the Grievous Angel'' - Gram Parsons (with Emmylou Harris) [outstanding harmonies] ''No Time to Cry'' - Iris DeMent [touching lyrics] ''Valentine's Day'' - Steve Earle [one of the most heartfelt songs I've heard, was written during his heroin addiction] And I would recommend youtube live version for : ''Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain'' - Willie Nelson & Shania Twain [Love the lyrics but Willie's album version is a bit all over the place] ''Gold Watch and Chain'' - Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Ricky Skaggs [Linda rocks this one] ''I Never Will Marry'' - Johnny Cash & Linda Ronstadt [their voices are great together, and Linda looks absolutely stunning again] OK maybe I went a little overboard but there are many more and probably many I forgot to mention, and I don't often get to express my love for these artists. January 22, 201213 yr You need The Incredible Machine by Sugarland :D Also get some Faith Hill albums, Fireflies is my favourite by her. Martina McBride has a new GH out which covers all her best songs, worth the listen. Some songs: Devil On The Left - Jamie O'Neal Anywhere - Sara Evans Country Stron - Gyneth Paltrow
January 22, 201213 yr Just thought of another group, if you like Sugarland then The Band Perry are definitely worth a listen as they're very similar. Their best songs are If I Die Young and Hip To My Heart.
January 22, 201213 yr I like Tim McGraw quite a bit I've heard that Faith Hill likes a bit of Tim too.
January 22, 201213 yr I've heard that Faith Hill likes a bit of Tim too. Dirty bitch. You and her :P Edited January 22, 201213 yr by Swagger91
January 22, 201213 yr I like Tim McGraw quite a bit I like Indian Outlaw (although the buffalo briefs line makes me cringe).
January 23, 201213 yr I'm a fan of pop-country mainly and I would suggest: Jason Aldean - Dirt Road Anthem Chris Young - Tomorrow / Neon / Lost / Old Love Feels New / She's Got This Thing About Her Miranda Lambert - Dear Diamond David Nail - Let It Rain Zac Brown Band - Whatever It Is / Colder Weather
January 23, 201213 yr I don't normally go for Country music but I do really like Kasey Chambers' debut album "The Captain"
January 23, 201213 yr Chris Young - Tomorrow / Neon / Lost / Old Love Feels New / She's Got This Thing About Her I really like his song 'Drinkin' Me Lonely'. 'White Lightning Hit the Family Tree' is good as well but has nothing on the original old folk song '(C'est La Vie) You Never Can Tell'.
