Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment has unveiled the format of an all-new show: a live, international contest to "find the world’s greatest DJs".

The new format of the still-unnamed show has already been developed. It will be co-produced by Syco and Overbrook.

According to a statement from the joint partners, it "will capture the incredible rise of the DJ phenomena". It has been in development for over a year - with a broadcast partner in both the US and the UK due to be announced shortly.

Simon Cowell said: “We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people. As soon as I met Jada and Miguel from Overbrook, I knew they would be our ideal partners. DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show.”

“This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent," said Jada Pinkett-Smith, " I am happy to be creating it alongside Simon Cowell, the Sony team, and my partner Miguel Melendez, on behalf of the Overbrook family.

"We are thrilled to be working with Simon Cowell and our partners at Overbrook on what we know will be a tremendously successful global format," said Andrea Wong, President of International Production for Sony Pictures Television.

Well this sounds shit, it's as if he stole the format from Channel 5's upcoming schedule or something...
How on earth would this work, and surely no one would be interested in watching it?! Sounds shit to me.
Hmmm so Cowell has probably got hold of the rise of the likes of RedOne, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Avicii etc. who are frequently getting other artists to feature on their tracks because of how well known they are. Got to hand it to him, the guy knows a business venture. Not sure how it will work, but if SyCo are producing it then it will be entertainment.
I just don't get how they can make people standing there mixing tracks live on a Saturday night entertainment... And what about after they win? Would they make a David Guetta type album with vocals from pop rejects like Jodie Connor, Britt Love and Frankmusik?
Not really sure how this would work and get good ratings. I'd probably watch a few episodes of it but I can see it flopping like that Red Or Black show with Ant and Dec.

Is that Will Smith's wife quoted in the article?

That family really need to be locked away in the far corner of the universe somewhere :/

I heard about this too but like others have posted, I also can't see this working. Maybe if it was a one off show showcasing the best up and coming DJ's fine. Being SyCo they would have the standard "public vote" but seriously, what do bored housewives and grannies know about DJing? Again, I'm assuming this would be prime time Saturday night fodder. Who is the target audience? If its 16-24 year olds, won't most of them be actually getting ready for a night out whilst this is broadcast?

The concept + the potential audience = Massive FAIL with thousands of pounds pumped into the show much like Red Or Black.

I might be proved wrong and this might turn out to be an interesting show. To quote Mr Cowell himself "taking everything into consideration" I think this is going to be a real disaster of a show with poor ratings.

ITV2 will probably snap it up to be transmitted during the week, I don't think its Saturday material for ITV1

How would a DJ talent contest work? I can't imagine anyone caring very much about some DJ twisting out tunes on stage.

Then again there were some who said strictly would never work....

I guess it's more the producer/DJ type? Tbh I don't reckon Cowell has much idea what a DJ is apart from a money making machine for him (he sees David Guetta and the gang and gets a money boner).
"DJs are the new Rock Stars".. Errrr, yeah, only the phenomenon of the DJ goes back over 20-odd years to the Hip Hop and Rave scenes.... Amazing how Cowell seems to think that this is some kind of "new idea"... DJing is a very specific thing linked into clubbing and producing. I somehow doubt the average X-Factor or Britain's Got Talent viewer will remotely "get" what club DJing involves, much less be able to judge it...
I think Simon is the one that doesn't understand, I think the public have some grasp of what a DJ does. I have no idea how he will get a DJ to "perform" in 3-4 minutes though, and I don't get how the public vote could work either. As for DJ culture going back 20 years, try 35 to the days of disco and early hip-hop (which was created by DJs talking over instrumental disco jams), 40 to northern soul, or nearly 50 for the Jamaican selector scene.
To conclude, Simon Cowell is WAY out of touch with what is popular. If only he could get his ideas about 10 years earlier then he might be onto something. In 10 years time he'll be thinking 2012. So behind the times...
