It is an impressive turnaround for Gary becoming so popular in appeal to people, as mentioned before he never truly managed this feat in Take That first time.

Smash Hits, that brings back and also holds alot of memories, i do remember back in the day when mark used to win all the hotty!!awards nowadays its Gary who appears to get them. This is ironic in a sense as back in the day Gary was always refered to as the fat ugly one.

 

Yes, i remember. Used to be the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party awards where he used to win most fancible male, most dressed etc.

 

Mark won many many of those awards, i always enjoyed the smash hits awards even though they had many a silly category.

i think they did as you say it, they had a few years were they won alot.

Outside the band award I think Mark won the most.

Ya i would say that true, i always remember him winning awards like nicest hair etc.

Has anything ever come near to smash hits prestige since its demise?

Not sure really but i think the top of the pops magazine did quiet well for a while, do any of you remember the magazine number 1??I loved it and always prefered it to smash hits, i enjoyed the smash hits award shows and etc but the so called interviews in the magazine used to annoy me even as a young fella as they never really asked any proper questions.

I cant say I remember the magazine Number 1 but do remember Top of the Pops but did the Top of the Pops magazine not flop?

I see that Gary is organising the Queen's Jubilee concert in June! He's pulled in names like such as Elton John and Paul McCartney etc, But no word on a solo performance or a Take That performance :( :( I hope Take That perform at this as it will be shown across the world!

 

I do hope they are back together in time to do the Olympics opening ceremony too!

Indeed i would be in agreeance on all your points made, i can only assume Take That are soon to be if not already back together working on the new album, if this is the case they might appear and perform.

Gary has just been on the One Show talking about the Queen's Party

 

He will be performing and so will Robbie.

 

I haven't seen anything in the press about the guys being back to work

Yeah I heard on the news today, I think it was the BBC news as I was on the move and only just heard it BUT it said that "Take That frontman Gary Barlow who is organising and will be performing at the concert...."

 

SO i dunno, it would be sort of strange for Gary to perform on his own at an event like this but then maybe its all part of the plan that they want to generate the interest and demand for new Take That material.

 

I would be very suprised if Take That weren't performing as they are an integral part of UK music history and are one of the finest bands ever produced in the country. That's what this concert is about, to show off UK talent and to have global i.e. American talent complimenting it. I fully expect Robbie to perform as well as he is the biggest male solo artist ever in the UK.

 

Maybe a Robbie performance, a TT4 performance and then a TT5 performance of Never Forget? I hope so!!

 

Gary did say on the One Show that there are other acts to be announced and did not give a straight answer on whether TT would be there unlike when he ruled them out of the CIN Rocks concert so the omens are good!

Even a Gary performance would be nice and would be something to look forward to? On the topic of Gary, just something i read on another forum, is Gary a smoker? I had heard he was and also heard he doesnt, I do know Howard smokes but Gary i dont know?

From what i know Gary used to smoke but doesnt anymore, Howard and Mark smoke and Jason doesnt./

Only Robbie, Howard and Mark smoke.

Jason was never really a full smoker, he only smoked occasional cigars where Gary was a very heavy smoker, gary made reference to both in his book.

I didnt know Gary was a heavy smoker, so at one stage they were all smokers which is strange in a sense as i remember interviews they did first time round and they always claimed apart from robbie that they didnt smoke when in reality the tour bus was like a chimney!!

ya gary smoked 40 a day at one stage when his solo career went belly up and he also smoked drugs aswell which he openly talks about in his book. Ya first time round they kept and in a way i suppose they had to keep the clean cut image when in reality they were smoking like trains, drinking heavily and dappling in drugs,
