July 8, 201213 yr Is Federer back to number 1 now? Looks like that's another record he'll break - think he only needs 2 more weeks to surpass Sampras. He's equalled Sampra's record of most weeks at number 1. On 286 weeks. He'll pass it next week.
July 9, 201213 yr He's equalled Sampra's record of most weeks at number 1. On 286 weeks. He'll pass it next week. I seriously never thought he'd get back to the top! That said the ATP points system is slightly ridiculous, winning a grand slam warrants 800 points more than being runner up and 1280 more than making the semis, so it's pretty easy to make a huge gain after one grand slam win :P. Also on the WTA Azarenka is back to number 1 :cheer:, she really had a great tournament and I'm hoping she can pull something out at the USA open and get her second major, Radwanska climbs to number 2 and poor old Sharapova after only 3 weeks at the top drops to 3, as Serena Williams climbs back to 4!
July 9, 201213 yr Murrary will win a Grand Slam, but only when Federer falls weak and retires. Nadal and Djokovic will slip up more often now, as they don't have the mind like Federer.
July 9, 201213 yr  Federer would have lost to Nadal he has his number totally, So does Djokovic if he wasnt ill he would have spanked him again like @ the french.Closing the roof seriously helped Fed as he is the best player in the world indoors.Paul Henri Mathieu was 2 points away from beating Fed in 4 sets early in tournament before he got injured and roof closed. Only reason he is Number 1 is because he whored up Mickey Mouse tournaments mostly indoors again last season.Federer hasnt beat Nadal in a GS final since 2007 record H2H 17-10 Nadal. Federer is the clear number 3 in the world. One slam dont make a season ^_^ .

July 9, 201213 yr Correct me if I'm wrong but do you slightly dislike Federer? I have no beef with him. I just think he is a few step's below Nadal and Djokovic. Plus he has the personality of a comatose tortoise.
July 9, 201213 yr Also on the WTA Azarenka is back to number 1 :cheer:, she really had a great tournament and I'm hoping she can pull something out at the USA open and get her second major, Radwanska climbs to number 2 and poor old Sharapova after only 3 weeks at the top drops to 3, as Serena Williams climbs back to 4! I think it's slightly ridiculous that the top two female tennis players in the world are at those positions despite being beaten by the number four, but hey...
July 9, 201213 yr But surely that's the point of rankings, they're based on results over a longer period of time than one tournament. If Serena were to be number one ahead of them now she'd have gone into the tournament ranked below the 64 players that went further than her in the French Open a month previous.
July 10, 201213 yr Exactly. The rankings always chuck out the odd questionable placing but on the whole they're a fair system. It's not like players achieve the same results on every surface. Serena doesn't play great on clay, Stosur is shite on grass but fearsomely good on clay and hardcourt. I just hope Azarenka can win another slam (although I don't like her whatsoever) because it's good for the game when the top seed is winning tournaments. Hopefully the days of Ivanovic and Wozniacki getting to #1 and then flunking down the rankings with no slam wins are behind us now.
August 29, 201212 yr Currently gripped to 5Live - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/bbc_radi...ve_sports_extra - as Laura Robson is possibly on the verge of beating Kim Clijsters in the US Open!
August 29, 201212 yr And she did it! Kim's final match, an honour for Laura to be the victor. Li Na next, so the challenges keep coming...
August 30, 201212 yr I love Laura Robson, hope her silver mixed doubles olympics medal is the start of great things for her.
August 30, 201212 yr DELIGHTED for Laura, it's so refreshing to finally see a woman coming through the ranks for Great Britain, and she certainly has the skill. Very promising. Shame for Clijsters, I love her and it's a shame to see her retire, and thus go out so early in her final match - but I'm obviously more thrilled for Laura. Thinking Li Na is going to be very tough for Laura, perhaps a test too far - but I'm very impressed with her, third round for a british female is almost unheard of these days. Also, very happy for Andy, progressing to the third round comfortably.
August 31, 201212 yr Well done to Laura Robson. She is through to the fourth round of the US Open by beating 2011 French Open champion Li Na in three sets 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2. Laura is the first British woman to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam in 14 years. Fantastic!. Finally she has got that breakthrough that we've been waiting. The last British woman to reach the fourth round was Sam Smith in 1998.
September 1, 201212 yr  :cheer: Laura has changed so much in her mental part of her game and movement couldn't believe her defensive skills compared to Wimby/Olympics, Her new coach Krajan has certainly made a positive influence only been with her a month . Now take out SaMANtha Stosur in straights it would be 2 US open champs slayed in a row I think she will. Noone's beating Serena though she looks unstoppable.
September 1, 201212 yr So happy for Laura's success in the US open! Getting to the last 16 is brilliant and I'm glad she's built on her silver medal in the Olympics! Hope she can get even further!
September 7, 201212 yr So Sharapova crashes out of after losing to Azarenka in a horribly tense semi final tonight. Truly a knuckle biter but she was just marginally outplayed in the end. Still think this is Serena's tournament, nobody is playing at her level right now. Edited September 7, 201212 yr by Jark
September 8, 201212 yr The Victoria Azarenka v Serena Williams final has been postphoned until Sunday night because of heavy rain today. Andy Murray through to the final of the US Open by beating Tomas Berdych 5-7 6-2 6-1 7-6 (9-7) 5th time lucky in a Grand Slam final for Andy? Edited September 8, 201212 yr by kenukcsfant2012
