Well 'Dark Star' is kind of more IN YOUR FACE than 'Take Me Home'. Some people don't like subtlety I guess. I agree though everyone should love both of them (this is why Yu is the best like I said).

There is jubilation throughout the nation Syndare this evening as the country celebrates its first ever victory in the Buzzjack Song Contest. New York DJ Belanger's 'Take Me Home' smashed through the 200 points barrier and brought home first place from Trifoskii capital Mrkyvka, just ahead of Syndarian ally Persephonia and their act Jaymes Young. Scoring steadily throughout the night, it came down to a duel between the nations for the final stretch of the contest as both finished over thirty points ahead of bronze medallist the Federal Republic of Ashton. Belanger, barely visible amongst his ecstastic entourage, has reportedly already been driven to Synphonic, Töissä's premiere nightclub, for a victory DJ set - and the song's sampled vocalist, Stevie Nicks, who flew in to the nation for the contest after odds shortened considerably during the last week, is said to be in attendance.

 

The SSSB and the SSN are said to already be in discussion about the plans for the next contest, due to be held in Töissä's Stygg Arena, with the specific dates the first thing due to be confirmed. SNN president Gregory Stolt has been quoted off the record saying that Syndare's next entrant - who will likely autoqualify, as per usual contests - has already been chosen.

Syndare's first hosting of the Buzzjack Song Contest did not bring much glory for the nation themselves, as auto-qualifier Cass Lowe came home in an unassuming twenty-second place. It is, incidentally, the fourth time the nation has finished in this position in a relatively brief eighteen contests, following 'Maiden' by MØ in XLVIII, Mmm's 'Dark Motion' in LII, and 'Luminous' by Alice & the Glass Lake in LIII. Commentators have suggested that the song's lack of emphatic support may be due to it having bypassed the semi finals - several reviews from across the Buzzjack world have described 'Birthmark' as a "grower".

 

The contest itself was a great success for the nation, however, with great praise for the prowess and aesthetics of each event, which culminated in a tense results show engineered by the SSSB's senior co-ordinator Katharine Bushwack. It was Fljótavík who added a third crown to their collection, as 'Cry No More' by VAULTS finished just one point ahead of Ramrynia's Alida. But the Fljótavíki delegation were quick to announce their passing of the hosting duties to the second-placed nation and the SSSN are already reportedly eager to head to the nation - a short ferry ride across Danaela Bay - as rumours circle that one of Syndare's most successful artists has agreed to take part in LIX.

The SSSB had been rumoured to have secured a superstar to represent Syndare in the fifty-ninth Buzzjack Song Contest, and they didn't disappoint: multiple award-winner and album sales record breaker Vienna Teng will be singing for the nation in Ramrynia's Cherry Tree City. Though mostly unknown outside of Syndare, Teng is one of the country's most successful artists, recently seeing the highest first week sales of the year so far with her fifth album Aims, which follows four previous chart-topping albums. 'Never Look Away', which Teng will sing for the contest, is taken from that album. The SSSB revealed that they allowed Teng to make her own song choice for the contest.

Vienna Teng justified her superstar status by subverting the odds and landing a sixth top ten for Syndare in Ramrynia tonight. 'Never Look Away' by the multi-platinum artist was top ten for most of the night, holding on to that position as the final vote was read. Overall odds had predicted the song for a finish outside the top twenty, so the waves of support from across the Buzzjack world - including maximum scores from FSR Rontvia, Cadelicia and Greenfroze - meant the Syndarian public had much to celebrate this evening. Vienna, looking supreme in a specially designed Marc Jacobs dress, was serene in the post-final press conference, saying, 'I'm absolutely delighted to bring my nation another top ten finish. Taking part in this contest was an exciting and highly rewarding experience, although tonight was so nervewracking that I'm not sure I could put myself through it again!'

 

The SSSB was tight-lipped on their plans for the last contest of the year, but rumours have long been circulating that an artist is being brought out of a long retirement for the upcoming contest in Trifoski.

With the final Buzzjack Song Contest of the year seeing a return to Trifoski - the site of Syndare's first win just a few months ago - the nation's hopes are high for a great finish to a year with 'No More', sung by London's Basheba (aka Laurie Nicoll). An intoxicating mixture of drumstep production and soulful, gospel-like vocals, the song sees a fresh change of pace for the SSSB, after the long-established Vienna Teng took them into the top ten last year. By contrast, Basheba is unsigned and 'No More' is her first song - but it's a very confident, striking debut, and one the nation hopes will capture the attentions of the Buzzjack world.

 

SSSB issues annual 'Best of' collection for their second BJSC year

Following the enormous success of last year's collection, the SSSB has once again issued a 'Best of' compilation comprising the highlights of the year's contests. Again compiled using votes from the Syndarian public, the collection includes seven of the year's winning songs, including Syndare's own success story Belanger, who rounds off the two disc set. The home nation isn't the most featured country, however - Aeroche and N DNTN both score three entries each, while Syndare add only tenth-place finisher (and Syndarian superstar) Vienna Teng to their roster.

 

The deluxe version of the release comes with a bonus disc of the finest DNQs of the year, suggesting which songs might be bolstered by Syndarian support in the upcoming Rejects competition.

Will they be my favourite country of the year, though? My most rewarded song here barely slips in, but it says a lot about the quality this year that Zechonia's latest entry is still a haunting, majestic creation I wouldn't want to be without.
