They're only allowed four though

Anyway in other news, Andrew Mann is FANTASTIC, really really anthemic, sounds like a potential winner. Plus he's quite cute.

Oh god, Waterline is awful  I loved Lipstick but this reminds me of Westlife/Backstreet Boys (as Rich said) - and this is NEVER a good thing.

Never really got into 'Lipstick' but right now I am LOVING 'Waterline'

(so it was the second of three rumoured titles that turned out to be right then)

Are they actually trying to subconsciously make people associate this with 'Waterloo', as it has the similar title, and therefore make them vote for the song? :o

They'll [Jedward] probably just do a Lena and fail to live up to the high bar that they set for themselves...

Lena did quite good though coming 10th. I thought she'd struggle coming Top15 with such an alternative sounding song.

Why does RTE always get Melodifestivalen rejects? Can SVT give some to RTP or the BBC too?

:kink:

Listening to the songs right now...

1. Celtic Whispers ft Maria McCool - Mistaken

Nice enough, would definitely be an interesting entry for Ireland. It drags a bit after a while though.

I have a feeling it will all hinge on the live performance, it's the kind of song that would either be amazing/haunting live....or an absolutely unbearable slog.

2. Donna McCaul - Mercy

Oh disappointment. :( I was banking on this being my "omgILUVit" track in the irish eurosong this year. It's all a bit clichéd and feels like it's been done before. Blah.

3. Una Gibney & David - Language of Love

It's very happy, leaning on uncomfortably happy.....I'm not sure how eurovision would respond to it. Probably poorly....but if they have good chemistry on stage they could qualify maybe. Wouldn't bank on it.

4. Jedward - Waterline

I can't help but feel like the title is trying to emulate a certain Swedish Winner.....maybe it's just me. I mean what does water have anything to do with this song? Could be really good live, I'm a little less nervous in terms of vocals since they fared alright with Lipstick. It seems like something that might have broader appeal than Lipstick. (if that's even possible :P :()

5. Andrew Mann - Here I Am

I left this until last because I saw some people in the thread seemed to like it a lot. I really like it, could be really amazing live. Unfortunately I'm not sure if this has much chance. Jedward and Donna will probably be the top two in the public vote, even though Donna's song is rubbish.

Overall I'd be happy to see Here I Am or Waterline represent us at Baku. Having said that I would rather Jedward didn't represent us a second time in a row. So I want to see Here I Am represent us.

Not heard the others aside from Waterline but I gave Here I Am a listen and it's very good  Would maybe do as well or better than Jedward I think!
I find Here I Am to be VERY average. Waterline on the other hand is actually really quite good  . I also like Mercy, but it wouldn't do anything for Ireland at Eurovision.

I love Donna's song 'Mercy'. I was ready to hate it after that monstrosity she entered with in 2005. Her voice is much better too and from the few pics i have seen... so is her image. Wish it was out to download now. With a good performance it could go through the semi no probs. Sounds V Swedish which is never a bad thing!

Better than Jedward for sure.

I think I like Waterline even better than Lipstick, it's catchy as heck and pretty summery. Could do well :)

Finally listened to these, my opinons;

Waterline - can't believe I like this, I can't stand Jedward! This is the most likeable pop song they've done though, could easily be a One Direction track but sounds more like Busted/uptempo Westlife. I'd actually be happy enough to see this win 8.5/10

Here I Am - This is very rousing, the production is so massive which seems odd to hear in an Irish national finalist! Maybe a bit too heavy at times, it's almost relentless. That said, I really like this, great melody. 9/10

Mistaken - So Edele from B*Witched actually wrote this, can't say I'm overly surprised. I was going to say it's a bit 'try hard authentic Irish', which B*Witched were on flop album #2  Would have preferred something along the lines of To You I Belong instead. The singer's voice is VERY quivvery even on record, I can only imagine it being a complete mess live a la Dervish. The melody isn't bad though. 7/10

Mercy - I thought she came out a few years ago, or have I got her mixed up with somebody else? I see she didn't change the gender references in her song if so, Dannii Minogue would have had a field day! I really like this, it sounds like a demo so if it did somehow get past Jedward I wouldn't mind a bit of a revamp, nice key change! 8.5/10

Language Of Love - Very try hard. It's like a limp celtic attempt at trying to recreate In A Moment Like This. Catchy but there's something quite unlikeable about it somehow, it just feels so fake. 5/10

Exactly my opinion too, well done Jedward on creating something actually quite decent!

  • 2 weeks later...
I would be shocked if anyone but Jedward go through, i dont have an opinion on their song yet i will give it a few listen, i hated lipstick last year but by the time eurovision came round and when they performed i got to like it. Jedward should qualify if they win the national as they have built up a nice fan base in europe, all going well they will again manage a top 10 finish for ireland in the final.

I don't think I'll be watching this because I'm going out and can't be arsed streaming it. Not to mention it drags on for way too long anyway! But I'm backing Andrew Mann! :D

Jedward might not win it. They only came second with juries last year, and that was with a far better song. It'll be a hit with the tweens but I can't see anybody else going mad for it... Or is that wishful thinking? :D

Except last year Jedward didn't have a previous eurovision 8th place in their pocket. I wouldn't be surprised if the juries were voting with their eye on the prize rather than what the songs actually sound like.

The verses' tempo sounds very off, it gets better with the chorus but it's all a whole lot of nothing isn't it?
