Posted February 5, 201213 yr David Guetta feat Sia - Titanium climbs to #1 Another week and another new #1 single then as Cover Drive's Twilight drops all the way down to #6, Titanium climbs another place to make #1. After being released as the 4th single from David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat album, Titanium became its highest peaking single last week and goes 1 better this week. This is now the French DJ's 5th chart topper in total since his 2001 debut. Previous #1 singles were 2009's When Love Takes Over (feat Kelly Rowland), 2009's Sexy Bitch (feat Akon), 2010's Gettin' Over You (feat Chris Willis, Fergie & LMFAO) and 2010's Club Can't Handle Me (Flo Rida feat David Guetta). Titanium was originally a buzz track for the album, as was Turn Me On (feat Nicki Minaj), which re-enters at #33 due to the video for it being released. Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again enters at #2 This is another week whereby the mid-week #1 single has not held on, this week it is Alone Again by Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers which enters at #2. Alyssa Reid is an 18 year old Canadian singer songwriter, who was first seen as a finalist on the Canadian TV talent show 'Next Star'. She now makes her UK chart debut with Alone Again which samples lyrics from Alone, originally a 1987 hit for US rock band Heart. Alone Again also features US based producing duo Jump Smokers on many of the remixes available. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die climbs to #9 US singer songwriter Lana Del Rey entered at #14 last week with her second single Born To Die and now the title track to her #1 album has climbed into the top 10 at #9. This matches the peak of her debut Video Games, which goes back up again to #17 after a total of 16 weeks around, time will tell if Born To Die can achieve that kind of longevity. RIO feat U Jean - Turn This Club Around enters at #36 In a top 40 chart with only 3 new entries, this is the lowest in at #36 for Turn This Club Around by German dance act RIO. RIO consist of members are DJ Manian (Manuel Reuter), Yannou (Yann Peifer) and Tony T (Neal Antone). DJ Manian and Yannou are 2/3 of dance group Cascada, who had success with such hits as Everytime We Touch and Evacuate The Dancefloor. Yannou was also featured on DJ Sammy's cover of Bryan Adams' track Heaven, a big #1 single in 2001. RIO have released several singles in Germany and Netherlands including Shine On, Like I Love You and Miss Sunshine, this #36 entry Turn This Club Around is their first UK release featuring vocals from US pop / hip hop artist U Jean. Lana Del Rey debuts at #1 with her Born To Die album US singer songwriter Lana Del Rey hits #1 with her debut album Born To Die, which contains the 2 top 10 hit singles as well as some co-written by Fame Academy winner David Sneddon. Another Canadian singer songwriter enters at #2 in the album charts, 77 year old Leonard Cohen with his joint highest peaking album ever Old Ideas, a whole 43 years after Songs From A Room. Other notable moves in this week's album chart include the likes of David Guetta, Christina Perri, Snow Patrol and Drake climbing back up in the top 20. Personal Opinion I am happy to see common sense prevail and Titanium get its rightful place at #1, as I think Alyssa Reid's Alone Again is rubbish and tacky to say the least. Great to see Lana Del Rey get a second #9 peaking single and the #1 album, one of my favourite albums ever. Loving Ed Sheeran's rise with Drunk and Christina Perri's Jar Of Hearts, although I'd rather it be 1000 Years or something newer getting the success now. I don't think much of Turn This Club Around by RIO, sounds like a lesser version of Taio Cruz or Usher. Bracing myself for a crappy #1 next week in the form of Will I Am! February 6, 201213 yr I think it's fair to say most people seem to have been relieved Guetta beat that Canadian woman to number one.
February 6, 201213 yr Author Yes it also means that I've liked every #1 single this year to date, expect Flo Rida. Extend that to Military Wives at the tail end of last year too.
