so it would appear this is coming later this year (summer you would hope)

the editor of the guardian music section has heard it and says it is amazing/every song could be a single. i still have high hopes as i feel she could be even more relevant in 2014 than she was in 2009.

YEAR MADE. Ready to stan hard.

Based on what she performed on the taster tour last year, she's coming HARD. Don't even care about the relevance. NEED studio Sexoteque <3

I'd personally be shocked if she came back fresher than ever. Like Robyn levels of shock.

why?

it's been a gap but her music was very forward thinking at the time and she/polydor really know their A&R well.

she should have no problems at all. R1 will back her as she's still a very "them" sort of act.

Yeah but will that translate as a hit?

Loads of artists have come back after years in the wilderness, made perfectly fine music and not got anywhere.

To say she's got a big task on her hands to not just be known for In For The Kill and Bulletproof is too much of an understatement.

it's all about having the right people behind you and knowing what you are doing. apparently the material is very strong. add to that the fact that polydor are very strong with their a&r-- r1 will clearly eat up anything she puts out i should think. she has the benefit of being an artist who was very ahead of her time. the music and the image hasn't aged badly and she by no means comes across as a has-been. she's a very striking figure within pop.

i think she has a fairly straightforward path and isn't cursed with the circumstances of someone say like anastacia...

I would agree with all of that.

The puiblic's perception of her is what counts to me though. She can't be more revelant than she was in 2009, like you hope she will be, if that doesn't change.

I can't believe it's been FIVE years since In for the Kill! :o

I think I'd be DOWN for an act who comes in, captures the zeitgeist each time then FUCKS OFF for another five years

Like KELIS but BETTER

And LORDY ME I loved some LA ROUX back in the day. I was screaming/crying when I saw a poster of her in the grotty underground club in Bristol she did her comeback gig in (though that may have just been the MD). Down for this like you cannot IMAGINE

i thought you had an AGRIPPINA EMBARGO placed upon this forum for crimes against thread titles?

though damé ellie of roux~ is a fine breakage

This bitch should be in ART (forum resurrected for la roux threads and la roux threads only)

It's going to take an absolute miracle - or at least a really bloody good (and well-promoted) song - for her to get another hit.

She was my favourite act of 2009 and I played her to death at the time, saw her live at V the next year too. But then Alphabeat were my fave act of 2008 and Mika of 2007, and look how their returns went - the interest just completely died, the singles were barely promoted and they slipped into a permanent no-mans land of noughties nostalgia.

Saying that I was really pleasantly surprised to see Katy B hit #5, so there's hope...

She can really capitalise on the dance trend that's dominating right now. As Jake said her music was ahead of its time 5 years ago, she'll either be bang on trend now or push the boundaries even further, and look ahead again. 'Cover My Eyes' still sounds like a #1 hit today.

I really couldn't care less about how BIG her return is commercially, because the new material has been such a long time coming and means much more to me than that. I wouldn't write her off until hearing the material though. Excited for it all <3

I never said I cared if she was commerical and I never wrote her off either actually. Just saying that it will be hard for her to get a mainstream hit again.

i don't think she will be particularly big these days, unless she's really done her homework. most of the debut album, altho good, sounded amateurish enough instrumental-wise at the time. i can imagine her making the amateur -> polished progression foals / horrors / metronomy and the like etc all made years ago, but unless she has something extra, she'll already sound dated.

Amateurish!?

The album is polished to perfection and doesn't slip up once. The retro-yet oddly futuristic, gaming sounds all blending in with her soaring vocals. FAULTLESS silly.
