Scissors dancing up to No1

September 06, 2006

SCISSOR SISTERS are storming to the top of the charts with their new single — just as I predicted.

JAKE SHEARS and the band released I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ yesterday and in the midweeks it is outselling rivals by a mile.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’s SexyBack has slipped to No2, NELLY FURTADO’s Promiscuous is at No3 and ROBBIE WILLIAMS’s Rudebox is sitting at No4.

There is a strong chance Robbie will overtake Nelly by the end of the week as the figures are close.

Over in the album chart, it looks as if KASABIAN will hold the top spot for a second week with Empire

ROBBIE'S A LOSER!

His comeback single is massive flop Beaten by Scissor Sisters and Justin

Eva Simpson & Caroline Hedley

HE has been at the centre of an expensive media blitz but Robbie Williams' big chart comeback is proving to be a spectacular flop.

Exasperated fans have given a huge "thumbs down" to his electro-funk experiment Rudebox, which has been described as the "worst single ever".

A laughable 7,000 copies of the atrocious tune, which was released on Monday, have been sold - and sales are languishing far behind those of rivals the Scissors Sisters, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado.

In fact, in what is a huge embarrassment for the increasingly desperate pop star, Rudebox will be lucky to scrape into the top five.

And this is despite a high-profile advertising campaign and endless promo work by the 32-year-old so-called idol.

"Fundamentally, Robbie's new sound is a turn-off," says one highly-placed music executive. "He thought that he could do a Madonna - change his style and stay on top. But I'm afraid it has backfired. Rudebox is something you love or hate and, sadly for him, most people seem to hate it.

"These will definitely be nervous times for him and his people."

The exec believes the single will still sell to Robbie diehards but says the figures won't be as high as they once were.

"He's basically become the new Cliff Richard.

"A hard core of fans will pick it up automatically, whatever it sounds like it, but when it comes to racking up massive sales, it's a different story." Even Robbie's showbiz pals are struggling to praise the dismal ditty.

Declan Donnelly, half of TV duo Ant and Dec, told us: "Er, it's growing on me. It's one of those tracks that takes time..." Hmm.

Radio 1's Chris Moyles added: "I just think it's very odd. I so wish he would get back with his old songwriter, Guy Chambers. I miss those well-crafted tunes."

Moyles' colleague Edith Bowman said: "I was really disappointed with Robbie's last album. Although it's nice to see him challenge himself, I'm not a big fan of this single."

For those who have yet to hear Rudebox, the ex-Take That singer samples Sly and Robbie's Boops (Here To Go) and adds some weird, unintelligible rapping which one listener described as sounding like Roland Rat.

Robbie had hoped the mess would launch a new craze. According to the press release, Rudebox "has begun to blaze a trail on dancefloors across the world". But that claim has proved somewhat exaggerated.

Music insiders say troubled Robbie, who has battled booze and drugs in the past, has gone right off the boil since splitting with acclaimed songwriter Chambers.

He hasn't had a No.1 single for almost two years. His last effort, Sin, Sin, Sin only made it to No.22 in May and, prior to that, Advertising Space limped in at No.8. He has also previously been accused of nicking the track She's Madonna, set to appear on his new album. Unlucky.

Bloody bitches in the Mirror make me sick. :puke2: That article angered me more than most things Vicky has ever said. <_< They are completelly mis-informed in everything they said. It says that he has flopped and his rivals are far ahead of him, News flash you bloody fools, Rudebox is only a couple of hundred copies behind Nelly Furtardo so it will most likely go to #3.

And to say 7k is laughable for a first days sales just makes them out to have the intelligence of a 5 year old. By the end of the week it will have sell over 20k, he would've got to #1 with that in a different week for gods sake

God these journalists turely are an embaresment to the UK. :arrr:

   very good!

I wondered what had happened to my barbie doll ;)

And the Robbie doll looks more like Peter Andre to me :P

"

Oh god  What truely brainless idiots these bitches are

It's almost of if they go out of their way to come up with such false info -_-

:arrr: It just winds me up reading some of these articles, especially when the real facts aren't there. That's one of the reasons why I don't buy the newspapers anymore

No wonder the Daily Mirror is looking for buyers for the ailing rag. Journo's like that don't do a lot for their profession. :arrr:

I don't mind critical comments, everyone gets them, but that was uncalled for and just plain nasty..(Why are You So Nasty lol)

Why pick on Robbie there are plenty of other acts out there who have not had the placings that they thought they would have, so who is a flop then, Robbie who is this week playing to half a million people in the UK, or someone like Shayne Ward who's single charted badly and hasn't sold out one single concert venue, there are others in the frame too, but won't go there.

The British press are truly the worst in the world

That looks nothing like Robbie!!
How do you ever find these things!!!!!!!! It's hilarious!!!!!

he should take one year off, at least :o No new albums, no new singles,no new compilations, no new tours, no new collaborations.

I agree...Imagine the stress he's been going through...It must be exhausting! But I don't want him to go... Maybe a year time off would be good...but for the sake of us lovely fans...Not more that that...

Rudebox is less than 1000 copies behind #3 (Nelly Furtardo) so surely since he played to nearly 100,000 people in Leeds last night he will easily sell at least 1000 more. If not that alot of fans should be ashamed if you ask me. -_-

I totally agree with you Scotty.

I have read in various places that Rudebox is number 1 in Germany  :yahoo:  :yahoo:

At least its number 1 somewhere :D
