Simon Cowell said One Direction have peaked at #1 in 30 different countries. Really?

In 13, but 30 sounds better ;)

Australia, Croatia, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and Sweden, US, Canada & 5 more.

1D's album is having a great run isn't it? And the drop off too isn't that high, around 10% a week?

Definitely better than the wanted  They are still pretty unknown in usa, so with upcoming promotion they have chance to have another few weeks in top 10.

How are they unknown? Glad You Came is still a bigger single than 1d's.

Unknown as in nobody really cares about the band themself. Just like in the UK, where I wouldn't expect the majority of chart-topping acts of 2012 to be remembered as artists in the future rather than by their songs (Cover Drive, Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen and Rita Ora all come to mind - fun. too, but they're not chart-topping (yet!))...

I was talking about 1D. Each day their twitter account has 30 k more new followers. If people in America still discover Adele, it's obvious for me that not everyone have idea who 1D are.

btw

I read that 1D sold 190 k tickets for their 2013 tour in oz and nz with tickets grossing $15.7 million. They have only 18 shows in Oceania, but in 2012 & 2013 they had/will have 163 shows, so I think that they may earn over 100 mln $, this plus fact, that they sold 2 mln copies of their album, makes me feel that rumours that they got 10 mln £ form SyCo are true.

It seems too much to be feasible. Spice Girls were a whole lot bigger than 1D, but ultimately their individual wealth wasn't much more than £10m-£15m each, once the band was over. Their debut album sold 23 million copies worldwide, and the follow up sold 15 million - with every song co-written by the girls, including singles. The vast majority of 1D's album was written for them, and thus far none of the singles have 1D co-writes.

I'm sure the vast majority of the money being generated by "One Direction" is going to anyone but the boys at this early stage of their career. No doubt they'll be quite well off - but if as much as £50m has been given to the boys (individually £10m) after just one album, one particularly big hit single & ticket sales for one worldwide tour, I'd really be quite staggered.

It seems that my english is too weak to explain it properly :P I wanted to say that they got 10 mln, not every single one of them got 10 mln. So it's 2 mln for each of the boys, not 10.

Are you nobody then? How can you speak for the America?

I know that The Wanted have f***ed up any chance of achieving long-term success in the US by slagging off some of their greatest stars of the past 10 years whilst they are only just beginning their careers.

Ooh right! Well I suppose £2m each isn't impossible!

And you believe the press... Whatever! How come they were the only British act to appear on Billboard Awards last night? Listen mate, both acts achieved great success. End of.

But the way, change your tampon - it's dirty!:D

In post 86 you wrote, that it's impossible

The got to perform at the Billboard Awards because they are managed by Scooter Braun who also manages Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen. Scooter's basically saying if you want Justin to perform then you have to have The Wanted perform on the show too. The same thing happened when they performed on The Voice a couple of weeks ago. No show is gonna turn down Scooter Braun if it means Bieber won't perform there.

The Wanted have only achieved great success with GYC and not really with their album. Whereas 1D have had great success with their album and their song. At this rate it looks like The Wanted might become a one hit wonder, but we'll just have to wait and see how well CTS does in the next few months. Both acts have achieved great success stateside, but you can't deny that 1D have enjoyed greater success than The Wanted.

JLS's EP sold around 200k or 250k when The Wanted sold 50k, no one brand JLS as a successful band in America so I don't see a reason why we should treat them as something better than one-hit wonder. In times when 1D sold out their global tour, TW are praying for being a support for a Bieber or Chris Brown. It's time to deal with fact that they play in different leagues.

I actually like TW's music, but don't like some of the group members. I have to agree with you because I feel like most people are treating them better than a one hit wonder (which they probably will be). It's not fair to call JLS a flop when TW's album has flopped in the states. 1D are definitely in a different league as they've been a million times more successful than TW so far. I have a lot of friends who live in the US and when I asked them about The Wanted they didn't even know who they were, but they knew the song GYC. However, when I asked them about 1D all of them knew who they were and said that they've have literally blown up in America.

Also when 1D appeared on The Today Show they had 15,000 fans turn up when they performed outside, and that's the highest turn out the show has ever had (beating Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Chris Brown). The Wanted tried to replicate this by begging their followers to sign a twition to let them perform outside on The Today Show, but because they had little demand and a small turn out they had to perform inside

Also each 1D member has over 3 million followers each (Harry has 4 million followers) whereas the wanted have a little over 400,000 and don't seem to have increased that much since January, in comparison to 1D who have gained at least a million followers every two months since they've been to America. The Wanted have performed on a lot of big US sows and overall have done a lot more promo than 1D, and yet 1D have outdone them. On paper The Wanted should be doing extremely well because they've had a lot slots on high profile shows. I'm sure if 1D had their promo then they would be selling bucket loads in the states.

I don't think their label are happy with the performance of their EP, and if CTS flops too then I can seem them getting dropped as they've invested an awful amount into them.

They are in middle of doing a new album so I think that their label will release it, first single which maybe a collaboration with Brown or Bieber probably will be a hit, but I can't see them as a successful album sellers. It's almost impossible to have so good promotion as they had, so if they flopped once they will flop second time.

Since when has the JLS EP sold 200-250k in the states? It didn't even chart?

I just don't see the point of arguing re: One Direction vs. The Wanted in the US. The facts are clear.

One Direction has a huge following due to social media, hype and a very popular single. The Wanted has a huge hit single but has not yet established themselves as an act. We shall see what happens.

Neither act will become a phenomenon. That basically doesn't exist anymore, well, except Adele.
