Here's the RECAP of all 43 entries (disguised as some guy's Top 43 of 2008 - ignore that).

As always, you vote using the traditional Eurovision system, i.e. 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points, and send the scores to me by PM! 6 songs will qualify for the Semifinals and 3 - for Andra Chansen. If you already voted and realised that you missed something, you can change your votes if you want.

You have until evening of SUNDAY, March 4th to vote. And yeah, vote for you favourite song, and not the country, etc.

les highlights;

- Russia f***ing won! We obviously HAD to show off Plushenko skating on stage. Ha.

- The string of incredible Israeli entries started.

- Poor Portugal KILLING it in the Semifinal to not even make it to the Top 10 in the Final. Best Portuguese entry ever.

- Ridiculous things called WILDCARDS are introduced. At least they chose 'For Life' from Semi 1, it finishing 10th. And Charlotte advanced to the final throwing Macedonia under the bus.

- Olta Boka  Could've done better than 17th if not for this horrible 3rd performing slot.

- Azerbaijan debuts with such a memorable performance! Really set the tone for country's position at Eurovision (i.e. 'don't f*** with Azerbaijan, our Eurovision budget is bigger than GDP of San Marino').

- Irish DISASTER. I don't get the humour behind this entry.

- LAKA. Best performance of the whole year.

- Poor brave Hind. :(

- TOO MANY SONGS IN ITALIAN.

- The creepy 75 cents. :D

- 'For Life' undeservedly finished last, along with Andy Abraham and No Angels (those deserved it though :D )! WOT. SHE WAS AMAZING.

- VODKA. Legendary entry. Too bad it was left in the semifinal.

- Sebastien inhaling helium

- Ani Lorak  Everything about her on stage screams QoL.

- Bad entries are either SUPER DULL or SUPER HORRIFIC, no inbetween.

- Charlotte's car crash of a performance. *.* Her career was already over after that performance, not 'The Girl' flopping yesterday.

- 'IT CAN CATCH YOU OFF GUARD LIKE BAD CRIMES'. Lyric of the DECADE.

Forgot what a great contest this was, could easily vote for at least half. Highlights were the whole French performance (especially the outfits), the washing line with the brides, Charlotte being all GREY and Dustin the Turkey. And of course that costume change from Georgia.

Estonia, Lithuania, Spain & Croatia - all should've got nil points.

2008 features THE greatest Eurovision song EVER (we all know what that is) and is by far my favourite year.

Highlights and lowlights from 2008;

- A lovely ballad from Serbia, which I actually preferred to Molitva!

- A fantastic slice of Eurodance from Iceland, the first of a trio of fantastic entries from them!

- Malta bringing so much energy but another DNQ, Vodka wasn't quite the song that I felt it could have been with something a little extra

- Definitely my least favourite UK entry, a tuneless, incredibly dated non-event, deserved to finish joint last

- Portugal's best entry of the noughties, what a fantastic package - how did it not finish top ten!?! At least it kicked off a mini qualifying for the final revival for them

- Sweden, GAH! WHAT was that performance Wharlotte, black, white and blue, she looked like an alien - utterly bizarre and led to me not voting for it on the night having been certain that I would beforehand. Also, as much as I love Hero, that ticket to Belgrade should have been televote hero Sanna's. (Despite all this, Hero spent 4 weeks atop my chart and finished 5th in my EOY chart).

- I used to love No Angels and I did have a lot of love for the studio version of Disappear but it was horrendous live, four screeching cats. Bulgaria liked it at least, shame nobody else did!

- Poor Switzerland, another DNQ with another great song - ok the vocal wasn't amazing but this deserved to be in the final, and I'm surprised the juries didn't make sure that it was with their wildcard...

- Bosnia and Herzegovina having the first of two songs that I voted for based on the performance, wonderfully eccentric, I adored everything about it!

- Isis Gee being the most orange thing to grace the Eurovision stage until Bjorn Ranelid somehow gets there!

- Armenia and Greece sending some VERY fine examples of fem-ethno-pop

- Croatia's old man on a bench. Hideous.

- Bulgaria's break dance type dance song was criminally underrated, should have been a second top ten for them, not another DNQ!

- Czech Republic had a generic but great song which they completely ruined in time for the final :(

- Russia's winner was the worst of the decade for me, maybe second worst to Marie N, incredibly plain and dull. Good Timbaland's best friend production but that's about it, the plodding melody went nowhere and the win should have been Ukraine's

- France  The second song I voted for on the night based on the performance, brilliant. Even the hipsters were won over, many calling it the greatest Eurovision song ever!

- Dustin was funny for a bit but didn't it deny some great potential top five song that finished 2nd place in the Irish NF iirc?

- Not sure what Estonia were thinking, at least that 'joke' duly died in the semi...

- Latvia should have been as awful as ever but Wolves Of The Sea has a fantastic melody, insanely catchy!

- Belgium had such a unique and likeable song from Ishtar, was #1 in Ghosty's chart for months on end iirc! Shame it DNQ'd but the performance was horrible and I guess the song was a little 'out there'

- Ukraine! What a stunning song/performance, Josh Dubovie ripped off her brilliant box idea to $hite effect two years later...

- And last, but certainly not least - Maria Haukaas Storeng  One of my favourite people to ever grace the Eurovision stage, the voice, the beauty, the stunning, incredibly relevant song written by Mira 'The Legend' Craig, and the third song that I voted for on the evening. What a superb close to the final and a deserved top five!

Senhora Do Mar is not my favourite Portuguese ESC song ever, but certainly is the most winner material that Portugal has ever sent, and still it was only 13th.

Sometimes I think Portugal will never ever win, not even in the year 2525.

There are so many moments from 2008, I always feels like Oro is slightly underrated. It's so beautiful and Jelena gave a wonderful performance.

Ishtar and Euroband  . Between them, they spent about half of 2008 at number one on my chart.

There were 13 songs that I absolutely adored in 2008, so I'm not sure how I'm going to chop 3 of them off. One thing I will say is that I found Dima Bilan's song to be an even more frightfully dull winner than Molitva, so naturally Believe will probably win this and go straight to the final :heehee:

Oh, and I agree with Rich, Even If is comfortably our worst entry for quite some time.

Sent my votes, there were five I'd have easily found room for in my 2007 top ten but couldn't vote for here, what a fantastic year, reminds me of the tail end of uni though so I associate some memories with it.

None moreso because I was so obsessed with Hero and my newfound obsession of Melodifestivalen that Wharlotte was the inspiration for my dissertation, the final third of it at least! These songs became intertwined with my life for months.

I am going to vote in this one - should've done in the past few actually, sorry Pavel :drama:

Below is the CD tracklisting that I attached as an appendix to my dissertation (all of the songs which I mentioned heavily at some point) which was titled 'Europop or Eurotrash? Cultural taste in Britain and beyond'. Comfortably my favourite piece of work that I've ever done, and single handedly got me a 2:1 degree, with a mark of 69! :cheer: I do hope that whoever marked it listened to it in its full glory!

Wharlotte Pair-air-lee, the reason I finished university with a good degree

Best Memory of watching the 2008 final isn't related to the songs but to my sister saying that the hostess looked like a ginger bulimic Kelly Brook.

I still want you to upload that dissertation some day!

I'm feeling this year will be the only year to not have the winner qualify at least for Andra Chansen (and thank GOD) :o Ell/Nikki are at risk too.
Ooh, I think this is easily my favourite year of the decade! The first year I actually sat down and listened to the full album. Lots of songs I can remember and want to vote for. I don't think my favourite entry has been mentioned yet, so I won't hold out too much hope of it qualifiying!
I still want you to upload that dissertation some day!

I'll do so now. It's a little out of date, seeing as juries have been brought back to Eurovision since I wrote this, but still relevant.

A fantastically interesting read! Obviously I don't disagree  It would be interesting to see how it would be written today, given American artists who'd traditionally be labeled as R&B/hip-hop/rap have co-opted so much of Europop into their songs, the genre's probably as popular as it's ever been, albeit in another form - and we now have another level of cultural elitism, with those who look down on the co-opted 'Eur&B' (to coin a genre) which is hugely popular among the lad subculture, but who probably additionally look down on Europop despite it being fairly similar in a lot of cases...I mean, just look at how much of Melodifestivalen could probably have charted this year! (Although that could probably also be down to diffusing tastes vice versa, with Guetta's influence and all - Shout It Out and Amazing being noted offenders!).

But yeah, good read  You could probably turn that into a book with just the amount of change we've had in the last four years and all!

5 highlights for 2008:

- "Oro"'s Portuguese version. Jelena sings it in a perfect Portuguese pronounciation with STUNNING lyrics.

- Ani Lorak's blonde dancer.

- Euroband giving a spotless EURODANCE performance! Remarkable in everyway and it's still one of my favourite Spring/Early Summer tunes ever!

- NA ZDAROVYE!!!

- Y'all better vote for Portugal and qualify it bitches!!!
