The song was a success going to #1 in Canada and Switzerland, #2 in France #3 in the US and Italy, #4 in Spain, & #5 in the UK and Australia. Probably due to the fact it was a lead single the song has been added to the following greatest hits, GHV2 & Celebration (Deluxe Version). Madonna being years ahead of the trend promoted the single on the internet in September 1994 with a 30 second sound file of Secret and the cover of the Bedtime Stories album on screen and even a forum where you could post what you thought of Secret, she left an audio message to the people who heard the sample saying "Hello, all you Cyberheads! Welcome to the 90's version of intimacy. You can hear me... You can even see me... But you can't touch me... do you recognize my voice?... It's Madonna. Often imitated, but never duplicated. As the song progresses, she walks down a street and ultimately reaches her home to her boyfriend or husband and a child. March 5, 201213 yr What a little gem this song is! Quite purposefully understated and it is not one i play alot! I hope to own the 12 inch vinyl one day, as it was only released in germany its very expensive!!!
March 6, 201213 yr Author For some reason in the last few years I find Secret boring but it's an ok song. Saying that the live DWT version is excellent!. I love Let Down Your Guard!.
March 6, 201213 yr I don't have much time for Secret (or indeed Bedtime Stories generally). It's an absolutely piss-weak lead single, her worst until 4 Minutes came along.
