Pop Goes The World, 8th Wonder and Men In Love were by far the best things on the previous album

Not too keen on the new record though :nocheer:

I always feel like Gossip are a band who come so close but kinda sit too much in tired-out song-writing / chord progressions to really grab my attention. They're NEVER bad though which is something to be proud of. I just feel like recently they've become a bit too PopJustice-lite for my liking.

Move In The Right Direction is as perfect a slab of pop as you are likely to ever hear - and it should've been the lead single.

All in all, bar the grotesque rtwork, I LOVE this album more than any other Gossip album.

HMV online have the album signed by all 3 members for £8.99...a snip. Is it going to flop, though? Has the single done anything at all? It deserves to be massive but......

Move In The Right Direction video is out...

Nothing special. Beth looks pretty fab though.

I rather like that video, simple but quite effective.

The song is marvellous too, I'm rather liking this Gossipop direction they've taken.

Their best album, easily (glad they've finally embraced "pop" because they've always just been a pop band basically). Still not hugely impressed tho~ (Move in the Right Direction + Get a Job + Into the Wild are my favorites).

I'm sorry but that could be absolutely anyone.

Utterly bland and forgettable.

Not a patch on Beth's solo EP from last year.

Great simple and effective video..... this is the best Gossip single I can remember. Bet there'll be some good remixes too. Any idea when this is out?

There's a jolly good reason why it only made #100 in the states and #47 here.

This is a completely passionless album (Melody Emergency and the final trio of Horns, I Won't Play and Love In A Foreign Place aside).

Beth Ditto sounds like she's hardly there on a lot of the tracks and as a result a lot of this sounds identity-less. Xenomania have done the seemingly impossible and completely squashed her personality.

Even on things like Pop Goes To World there was no doubting that it was Beth singing and it was all her baby. But this... bleh.

Gossip has not benefited from the Xenomania input as it has reduced them to generic dance floor fodder and totally ignored any of their strengths.

Surely they need to either split with Beth becoming the dance-floor diva she wants to be or they go away for a long time and have a complete rethink.

You have a point, the pop/dance route suits Beth if it's done well (brilliant I Wrote the Book) but Gossip as a band need much more to be relevant.

I have been listening to The Gossip all morning as well as the Beth EP. That was superb but maybe because of the collaborators she used (Simian Mobile Disco wasn't it?)

But Xenomania are an incredibly bad fit.

Downloaded the album.. It's ok. Move in the Right Direction and the last three or four tracks are fantastic and Perfect World still sounds good.

Xenomania have never been good at producing albums. I think this might have been better with more versatile production.
