There have been loads of singers, guitarists that have left to form or join new bands,but which is better, the first band or the second band. The ones that come to mind quickly are

 

Mick Jones leaves Clash to form Big Audio Dynamite

 

Paul Heaton leaves Housemartins and starts Beautiful South

 

Paul Rodgers leaves Free and starts Bad Company

 

Barney Sumner,Peter Hook disband Joy Division and metamorphisis into New Order

 

 

Loads more I know, which ones can you think of?

What about Charlie Simpson leaving Busted and forming Fightstar?

Paul McCartney - The Beatles followed by Wings.

 

Paul Weller - The Jam followed by Style Council.

 

Roy Wood - The Move followed by Wizzard.

 

Johnny Marr - The Smiths followed by The The & Electronic.

What about Ronnie Wood leaving the Faces and joining the Rolling Stones ?

 

Midge Ure leaving Slik joining Rich Kids & then Ultravox

(only Slik had the number one )

Ross from Symposium is now in a band called Paper Cuts, but I don't think that's exactly retro, unless mid-late 90s counts as retro these days. ;)

Well Fightstar were formed BEFORE he left them ;) and yes not retro :lol: I forgot who I was thinking of :unsure: so I'll just say the ones I can think which aren't retro either for now :lol: which are:

Caral Bârat - The Libertines follwed by Dirty Pretty Things
