''MDNA sold 5,786 yesterday in the U.K.

Adding onto Monday's sales which were: 32,845.

Thus the total sales so far stand at: 38, 631 ''

I hope this isn't true, is unfairly to low!

That is criminally low if true :o

The Voice has done wonders for Jessie J already, 16 places for her debut album to #6 :o

Music Week report

Madonna is on course to overtake Elvis Presley with the most UK number one albums by a solo act of all time as her newly-issued MDNA heads to the top this weekend.

The album, her first released through Interscope/Polydor since her departure from long-time home Warner, had sold around 39,000 copies up to the end of business on Tuesday, according to the Official Charts Company. That is more than the next five albums combined.

If, as expected, MDNA does reach number one this Sunday it would be Madonna’s 12th chart-topper, one more than Elvis Presley has managed. Only The Beatles with 15 number ones have topped the chart more times.

A long distance behind Madonna in second place in the week so far is David Guetta with his Postiva/Virgin-issued Nothing But The Beat, while XL’s Adele album 21 progresses 5-3, despite weekly sales dropping 29%, and Emeli Sande’s Virgin debut Our Version Of Events holds at four.

Below them are two albums with triple-digit percentage rises: Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and Jessie J’s Who You Are. Sales of Perry’s Virgin album Teenage Dream are up 258% on the week to move 34-5 following the release of an extended The Complete Confection version, which includes her number one single Part Of Me. Meanwhile, there is a 184% week-on-week increase for Jessie J’s Island/Lava album to send it 23-6 following her exposure as a judge on BBC One’s The Voice last Saturday.

The same programme has also helped several of her singles see a jump in sales, including Domino, which moves 14-13 on the midweeks with a 10.3% rise, Mamma Know Best, which is new at 40 after contestant J Marie Cooper performed it, and Price Tag, up 87-61 following Voice hopeful Jessica Hammond’s interpretation.

Also enjoying a renaissance thanks to The Voice is Columbia act Train’s 2001 hit Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me), up 108-41 on the midweeks after being the choice of contestant Justin Grennan.

Back on albums and Paul Weller’s Island album Sonik Kicks, having debuted at one last Sunday, is the new chart week’s seventh top seller.

MDNA is one of 10 brand new releases showing up among the Top 40 positions, a list also including a repackaging by Rhino of her Warner albums, called The Complete Studio Albums 1983-2008. This is the 39th top seller in the week to date.

Decca artist Noah Stewart’s first album Noah crops up as a new entry at 10, while En Vivo, a new live/video album by EMI’s Iron Maiden, debuts at 11. Other albums appearing as midweek new entries include titles from Roadrunner’s Shinedown, DC3’s Alter Bridge, Interscope/Polydor’s All-American Rejects, EMI Classics’ Crowe/Hanslip/Bell/LSO/Jenkins, Warner Bros’s Mars Volta and V2’s Blood Red Shoes.

On singles Chris Brown looks on course to achieve his first UK chart-topper with his brand new RCA single Turn Up The Music’s sales nearly double that of nearest rival, She Doesn’t Mind by Atlantic artist Sean Paul. Brown’s current UK chart peak is two, achieved by his first hit Run It! in 2006.

Katy Perry, who debuted at one last Sunday as Paul entered at two, drops to three on the midweeks with her Virgin single Part Of Me, while Gotye featuring Kimbra’s Island single Somebody That I Used To Know slips 3-4 and Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj holds at five with Starships. Fewer than 100 sales behind Minaj at this stage of the week in sixth position is Ill Manors, the brand new single from 679/Atlantic’s Plan B, while Atlantic single Wild Ones by Flo Rida featuring Sia climbs 8-7 to swap positions with Positiva/Virgin’s David Guetta featuring Sia’s Titanium, while Syco’s Labrinth falls 4-9 with Last Time and Virgin’s Emeli Sande 9-10 with Next To Me.

The 4 new entries from last week didn't really manage a top 10 clear out - 'Wild Ones' is on the climb, 'Titanium' is still at #8 and 'Next to Me' at #10.

Anyone know why 'Earthquake' is a re-entry at #31? I can see why it would've re-entered last week, what with the release of 'Last Time', but have no idea about this week.

Also, Rihanna finally looking to re-peak with 'Talk That Talk' (#25 peak, currently #24). Should climb to #22 at the least permitting You Me at Six take a dip during the week and if Rizzle Kicks can fall a place or two 'Mama Do the Hump'.

hardly any single sales, the above report says Chris Brown has achieved double of #2, to me that means jack shit.

Labrinth's album has been released this week. That's the only reason I can think of it, unless its 59p on iTunes and I don't know it :P

He performed Earthquake on the Jonathan Ross show on the weekend.

No it hasn't, it's not out until next week.

I'm not concerned about WHY it's back but a bit puzzled as to how - it's only #48 on iTunes with its top version and it has no other versions in the top 200. I suppose they might have been higher earlier in the week while I wasn't paying attention though. Great to see it back anyway.

Moves Like Jagger also seems to be a bit too low on iTunes at the moment for a climb to #36 to make any sense (#57, #192 and #220). Although it'll obviously be climbing again at the end of the week so it probably will end up climbing anyway. Ergh.

The rambly part of the post:

Boo at Plan B falling out of the top 5 already, really hope he can hold onto #6 but I wouldn't be surprised if Flo Rida overtakes him.

Sean Paul actually ahead of Katy Perry :o I thought Katy would stay ahead with her second version. Seems like 'Part Of Me' wasn't the right #1 after all and Sean Paul could actually hold up the best of last week's 4 big new entries! Go Sean. #1 next week please :P

Nice to see Azealia and Rihanna/Jay-Z continuing to climb and the latter getting a new peak. Also woo at Take Care still climbing, hope the video for it comes out soon.

Mamma Knows Best is okay, certainly should have been a single over the last 3 awful songs (excluding Domino). Not sure I want it to hang onto the top 40 though.

Really hope If You Wanna finally goes top 40 by Sunday.

And if Adele is already back ahead of Emeli Sandé it looks like she is safe at #1 on the YTD albums chart for some time after all :o

No idea who Noah Stewart is. Alter Bridge in the top 15 with a live album, really? Must be a HORRENDOUS sales week, surely it'll drop out of the top 40 by Sunday! Lol at The All-American Rejects only being #21 (although that might still be higher than their lasr album? ICR), Beekeeper's Daughter is incredibly forgettable. Disappointing to see Blood Red Shoes as low as #36 even on the midweeks :(

Plan B won't be going higher than 6 then :( I was hoping the EP sales would give it an advantage, thats not all that great for Madonna really, this era is alreayd looking like a bit of a fail

I can only hope Chris' sales aren't too high atm, I will cry if this goes over 85k

Seems like 'Part Of Me' wasn't the right #1 after all and Sean Paul could actually hold up the best of last week's 4 big new entries!

I don't know what you mean by this.. I can somehow understand the talk about "non-number ones" but what is "right #1"?

If POM go 1-3-5-11 or something it's done quite well imo. There have been tens and tens of number ones with worse chart run than that.

How much did Born This Way sell in its debut week? (just wondering)

I don't get how much people were expecting Madonna to sell and why people are saying its low! love her completely but lets face it she is getting no radio play, the singles were really bad choices, and Hard Candy was gonna take a lot to come back from.

In all honesty she was never really going to appeal to new young fans and it's hard to see how the dance aspect was going to appeal to the older/casual record buyer. It was always going to be hardcore fans only.

What we should actually be saying is that it is a miraculous achievement and statement of her legacy that she can still get another number 1 album, that it's her 12th and that she has been around for nearly 30 years!! I don't care if it only has one week in the top 40! Let's see how many other artists can/will ever have this level of success.

Surprised Fever is already at #32. Probably top 30 on sunday.

The "right #1" as in, the one that was the biggest hit. Sean Paul will almost definitely outsell Katy in the longrun.
