March 30, 201213 yr Midweek Charts update: Brown leads all international top five Source: MW 13:21 | Friday March 30, 2012 By Paul Williams UK acts could be locked out of the singles chart’s top five for the first time this year on Sunday with Chris Brown and Sean Paul heading an overseas invasion. American Brown appears on course for his first ever UK number one with his newly-issued RCA single Turn Up The Music around 24,000 sales ahead of closest rival She Doesn’t Mind by Atlantic-signed Jamaican Paul up to the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company. With Virgin’s US act Katy Perry currently at three with Part Of Me, Cash Money/Island’s Trinidadian-born Nicki Minaj occupying fourth place with Starships and the Island single Somebody That I Used To Know by Aussie-Belgian Gotye featuring Kimbra fifth the chart’s leading places are at this stage of the week a Brits-free zone. The highest domestic act is 679/Atlantic’s Plan B whose Ill Manors is showing up as a new entry at six, while Syco’s Labrinth, who was four on last Sunday’s chart, is currently in eighth place with Last Time. On albums Madonna is all but certain to overtake Elvis Presley and achieve the most UK number ones by a solo artist as her Interscope/Polydor debut MDNA heads to the top with around 47,000 sales by the end of Thursday. It would be her 12th UK number one, beating Presley’s 11. Positiva/Virgin act David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat is more than 30,000 sales presently behind in second place, where it sat on last Sunday’s chart, while XL act Adele with 21 and Virgin signing Emeli Sande with Our Version Of Events are a further few thousand sales back in third and fourth positions. A newly-issued extended version of Kay Perry’s second Virgin album, entitled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, helps the album rise 34-5, while her exposure on BBC One show The Voice sends Island/Lava’s Jessie J racing in the week so far 23-6 with Who You Are. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Chris Brown (24k ahead) 2 Sean Paul 3 Katy Perry 4 Nicki Minaj 5 Gotye ft. March 30, 201213 yr Brilliant to see Plan B still holding #6 today, I really hope he can stay there for Sunday and I think it has a decent chance as it's still #9 on iTunes and #10 on the albums chart with the EP. Even if it falls to #8 it'll still be his second highest peaking single behind 'She Said' though I suppose. 'If You Wanna' in the top 40 :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: It's still top 30 on iTunes so I hope it can keep up that high next week and outpeak 'Post Break-Up Sex', like it should have done to begin with. Also glad to see Olly Murs finally showing up in the mids with 'Oh My Goodness' but to a much lesser extent :P Not much going on in the albums, shocked to see Alter Bridge still so high, they probably will hold onto the top 40 now! It's normally only really massive acts that can manage a top 40 placing with a live album, Alter Bridge's entire chart history consists of a #37 album and a #9 album with a combined total of five weeks in the top 100, plus another live album which made #94. Update on Jay-Z/Kanye single and album please ^_^ Edited March 30, 201213 yr by Bréyhound
March 30, 201213 yr The Vaccines' 'If You Wanna' was one of the better indie songs of last year, so it is nice to see it finally go top 40. Who thinks Reggie Yates will call it a re-entry? -_-
March 30, 201213 yr The Vaccines' 'If You Wanna' was one of the better indie songs of last year, so it is nice to see it finally go top 40. Who thinks Reggie Yates will call it a re-entry? -_- He normally calls any entries 'new' unless they were either last in the chart a few weeks earlier or are old classics. If You Wanna doesn't fit either category so I think he'll probably call it a new entry.
March 30, 201213 yr Author MW report added with the update. If David Guetta is 30k behind Madonna, the #2 album is on sales of 17k, pretty on the low side.
March 30, 201213 yr Woo at The Vaccines top 40   so great to see a song of a largely struggling genre chartwise striking a chord with the public, makes me hopeful for the future of that genre
March 30, 201213 yr Dreadful sales for MDNA. It's the top selling album in the country for goodness sake... Whart is so dreadful with that??
March 30, 201213 yr It's the top selling album in the country for goodness sake... Whart is so dreadful with that?? Umm... its MADONNA and if Rihanna (163,000) & GaGa (215,000) can do massive first week sales, then Madonna should be able to. Even Kylie sold 79,000? Edited March 30, 201213 yr by MrGaGa

Um Rihanna was launched in Q4 and a month before xmas where sales are always much better (and off the back of a No 1 single, and Lady Gaga's was probably the MOST anticipated album of the decade so far- not really comparables.
March 30, 201213 yr Keep in mind that Madonna hasn't released an album during the 4th quarter since COADF And Lady Gaga... Well she was coming from her 9 x platinum album so yea Madge should top that opening. Oh wait, it's practically IMPOSSIBLE. EDIT: Gezza made the point sooner I did expect ~75k myself though The biggest declines on Madge's career have been The Immaculate Collection to Erotica (from ~3 million to double platinum) and Music to American Life (from 1.5 million to platinum) Edited March 30, 201213 yr by SKOB
March 30, 201213 yr Author It's the top selling album in the country for goodness sake... Whart is so dreadful with that?? I think it has something to do with the petrol shortages people just get to the shops :(
March 30, 201213 yr I think it has something to do with the petrol shortages people just get to the shops :( You are joking, right?
March 31, 201213 yr awful abum sales overall.... also by Madonna's standarts MDNA is indeed a flop... not a single top 20 hit !!!!! and an album that barely sells 70k in its first week.... pathetic!!!! Edited March 31, 201213 yr by Big Mistake
March 31, 201213 yr It's not pathetic. Hard Candy didn't fare much better and that had a smash. Think LOGICALLY people. Where do you expect the sales to come from? X outsold Hard Candy and Kylie had a rather large hit with All The Lovers and she still didn't do much more than 70k.
