It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.

Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.

We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do.

Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.

Team Sonisphere.

Given the remarkably poor line up compared to last year I'm not entirely surprised especially alongside the current economic climate but it's still something of a sad day as there is plenty of space for a really decent Rock festival in the UK. Download just doen't seem to be getting many decent bands together this year either.

The Download line-up this year (and Sonisphere) wasn't bad. That's just me though. I wonder if now, some announced for Sonisphere would move to Download?

Also, there's still Bloodstock Open Air. :P

Really? The headliners for Sonisphere were Kiss, Queen and Faith No More! 2 of which were irrelevant as far back as 1992! Bloodstock is fine but very much a niche market.

And Download? Prodigy, Metallica and Black Sabbath might pull in a few punters but there was literally nothing on the line up bar Prodigy that remotely interested me

Well, I've never said the Sonisphere line-up was very good. :P But what other bands they could've grab?

True, you didn't. I think Foo Fighters and Rammstein would've been a decent start. Lamb of God have just had a reasonably succesful album, Children Of Bodom, Fear Factory, Anthrax, Lostprophets. They're all active right now

Little wonder really, when you have absolute has-beens as your headline acts and keep all the interesting bands further down the bill. I dont imagine the current economic climate's exactly helped either...

I think the organisers of Sonisphere seriously need to take a leaf out of Wacken's book in how to organise a Metal festival...

Ah, yes, I forgot about Wacken. Not being a UK festival, I have easily forgot about it.

Best Metal festival on the planet as far as I'm concerned... Alternative/Metal/Gothic types seriously start needing to look beyond these shores for quality festivals IMO.. Download..? Sonisphere...? Totale Scheisse.... Wacken, M'era Luna, Wave Gotik Treffen and the umpteen other Alt/Metal festivals that go on around in Continental Europe is where it's at these days.. UK fests are f***ing rip-off....
