It depends on the amount of work done. Janelle Monae on We Are Young deserves less recognition than Hayley Williams on Airplanes. The worst was Timberlake's credit on Rehab, he does nothing.

As for Calvin Harris question. He wrote the song practically and he's a name people recognise, why shouldn't he get a credit?

He should also get credit on 'Where have you been' a total smash!!!!

Lil Wayne & Pitbull getting credits on a zillion songs is unfair since they now have more chart entries than Michael Jackson & Madonna and they are nowhere as succesful... :arrr:

I believe Where Have You Been wasn't written by him, and was co-produced by Dr Luke. The We Found Love credit was thanks to him writing AND producing it himself...

it was co-written by him so he should have got the credit for this one too...

There were numerous writers and producers on WHYB and only Calvin (I believe) on WFL. It's a no-brainer really...

I'm not surprised at the winner, though I thought the 'ego trip' option might have pulled in a few more votes.

'Featuring' now just means a record label wants an act to be given a sales boost by being associated with an established star.

The throwaway, patchwork approach to modern production means they can chuck any old rap into any old song. The likes of Snoop Dogg just pop into a studio every few months and rap a few random bars never really knowing where it'll end up but that there'll be a nice big cheque.

'Featuring' used to be a way for dance acts to give a foot up to new artists but all too often now the 'featured' act is the famous one.

Just another example of music as a commodity and no more.
