Rufus Wainwright has just released his new album 'Out of the Game'. It's actually the first of his albums I've listened to (and admittedly only 'cause he's the son of Kate McGarrigle) but I was pleasantly surprised. It charted at #5 in the UK so I was kind of surprised not to see a thread about it yet.

It features production from Mark Ronson and it sounds very pop with jazz influences. My favorite songs are 'Bitter Tears' and 'Rashida' but it's a solid listen all the way through.

Your thoughts?

Unsurprisingly I am rather fond. It's a bit of a grower and it hasn't reached the heights of some of his previous work yet but it's a godsend after the trauma that was his last album.

So I better not try his last album next. I think I'm gonna start with his early work.

I also only just discovered he's actually gay. I approve *.*

Want One and Want Two are probably his best work, if a little difficult at times. Poses is also rather grand.

All Days Are Nights is a very difficult listen, very sparse and written after the death of his mother so not a cheery listen.

Also, download 'Albatross' from the 'Born to the Breed' compilation, it's lovely:

(ignore the godawful POTC video!)
