Persephonia unveil entry for BJSC XLVI!

We can officially announce that Wild Belle will be representing Persephonia at BJSC XLVI in Terijoki, Ingermanlandia, with their song 'Keep You'! We've been drawn in 19th in the running order of semi-final one (which consists of an epic 28 songs, due to a record-setting 56 entries to the contest despite Farahtyn's one-contest ban and the temporary closure of new country registrationg). Listen below and some feedback would be appreciated!

President Salim Zosimus has said he is confident in the potential of the entry, citing it as "much more accessible than other recent Persephonian entries". In any case the least we're hoping for is just a third qualification in a row, which would be only the second time we've managed that in our participation history excluding the One Big Final era.

Persephonia fail to qualify in Terijoki

We sadly announce that we just missed out on a third straight qualification and instead got our tenth DNQ to date, as Persephonia's BJSC XLVI entry, 'Keep You' by Wild Belle, finished 16th out of the 28 songs in semi-final one. Only the top 15 could pass. Our final tally of 49 points was only a few short of the 15th placed entry which scored 52 points. Initial speculation is that Kopečka's last-minute voting pushed Persephonia out of qualification. Salim Zosimus is currently too distraught to comment.

A more detailed update about the semi-finals of BJSC XLVI will be posted tomorrow (as well as a collection of smaller news stories, intended to be posted earlier but which unexpectedly went AWOL, reportedly due to incompetence of the Persephonian News Bulletin publishers).

PNBC CEO Dreisbach quits position after public pressure; public now call for repeal of 'green light law'

Humberto Dreisbach, the now former CEO of Persephonian News Bulletin Corporation, has resigned from his position after increasing public pressure stemming from his recent holiday to Fljótavík, where he could not be contacted to give the green light to publication.

Dreisbach has issued a public statement, saying he "apologise to all for the severe delays in publication of the Persephonian News Bulletin" and that he "respectfully resign from [his] position", adding that "after the events it would be foolish to continue as the CEO lest the reputation of the PNBC be shattered".

The media mogul, born in northern Sargia state, was required by Persephonian law to give the all-clear for most publications in the paper to prevent erroneous stories from being published. This law, colloquially known as the 'green light law', has long been a contentious issue in Persephonia as a constant cause of delays in news reporting, with some even considering the law to be a cover-up for blatant censorship of material deemed 'dangerous' by the Persephonia government. The latest controversy which has resulted in a two-week almost complete halt of news reporting is certain to add further fuel for critics of the law.

Peaceful protests for the repeal of the law have begun in Carellis and other major cities of the country. President Salim Zosimus is yet to comment on the issue.

Dreisbach's replacement is yet to be confirmed but it is expected it will be Jima-born Lakiesha Vejar, a high-ranking executive of the corporation.

Dreisbach has very belatedly given the 'green light' for the backlog of articles to be published. They follow, in abridged form.

Changes to the Ingermanlandian train system

With the unexpected return to the BuzzJack Song Contest for eight countries for the 46th edition, Ingermanlandia have had to construct several new stations on their train system. This mostly does not affect Persephonia but it does mean that instead of having a direct link to Kluminica northwest on line 5, we are instead directly linked to Land of Jack. All other direct links are unaffected. See the new revised layout here.

Final Persephonian odds and predictions

Just before the semi-final results, Persephonia were predicted by six out of nine predictors of semi-final one to qualify. Average odds given for Persephonia to win were 40/1. Both were significant improvements over the figures at the same point in XLV (but despite this, Persephonia did in fact fail to qualify as already reported).

BJSC XLVI - the qualifiers

A fair few shocks with the qualifiers from semi-final one - Umiiruka sailed through as expected, receiving a 100% qualification prediction rate, but Aquafina crashed out despite receiving 8/9 predictions to qualify. Also predicted to qualify by 8/9 but getting through were the entries from Altyr Muunilinst, Fljótavík, Hendinia and Séyetana. Kopečka qualified after receiving 7 predictions to do so, while Kluminica who also received 7 failed to qualify. Batidas and Daehun (both receiving 6 qualification predictions) and Ashton and Ingermanlandia (both receiving 5) also qualified as expected, while Mdiče and Persephonia ourselves (who both received 6 predictions to qualify) and Torchwood and Yuxhaaq (who both received 5) didn't qualify as expected.

Below these sixteen countries which all received 5 or more qualification predictions and therefore were reasonable shouts for being qualifiers (bar one of course, as only 15 songs would qualify), there were actually quite a lot more qualifiers. PRoJ got through after 4 predictions, Bignia-Zaragovina, Elёdan and Usfland on 3 each and Skall on just 2. The 100% predictions to not qualify were apt for Kylienips and Lake Thermwoods nthough, while Allecian and Greenfroze (4 predictions each), Syndare (3) and Deandria and Ojnoj (1 each) also fail to qualify as expected.

There are more shock non-qualifiers from semi-final two, as two of the five tracks predicted by all 10 predictors to qualify fail to do so - the entries from Dalisska and Keypopian Republic. #00274E, Botanikka and Ramrynia all did qualify though, as did all those countries predicted by 9 (FSR Rontvia, Utopia) or 8 (Espen, Herzebania, Numayania) out of 10 to qualify. The next biggest proportion of qualification predictions was 6/10, accounting for the other 5 of the 15 most predicted nations. Two of these (Caerfyrddia and Sandebörg) failed to qualify, while the other three (Järkangel, Tinnmark and Unovia) got through.

As only four of the expected top 15 failed to qualify, so only 4 of the 16th-28th most predicted-to-qualify nations can get through. Aeroche qualify after receiving 5 predictions, N-Lazone and Zechonia after three each and N DNTN are arguably the biggest shock qualifier after only two predictions to qualify. Sangria (5 predictions), Bellamia and Kingdom of Shadow (3 each), Mezidinia (2), Land of Jack (1) and Budtar, Danaelanda, Isconia and Terra Avium (all 0) failed to qualify, as expected.

{It's an absolute bloodbath and probably bit of a TL;DR report but we did promise to provide coverage of this.}

Persephonia's semi-final votes revealed (partially)

As usual, we can't report what Persephonian voters thought of the qualifying 15 songs at this stage, but here's where the 12 non-Persephonia DNQs ranked on our semi-final rankings, including three which received points:

5th Greenfroze 8.5/10 (6 points awarded)

7th Syndare 8.5/10 (4 points awarded)

9th Mdiče 8/10 (2 points awarded)

14th Ojnoj 7/10

15th Yuxhaaq 7/10

17th Kluminica 6/10

18th Aquafina 6/10

19th Lake Thermwoods 6/10

20th Torchwood 6/10

21st Deandria 5.5/10

24th Kylienips 4/10

25th Allecian 3.5/10

Üürniköök successfully handed over to Umiiruka

President Salim Zosimus is pleased to announce that the island formerly known as Üürniköök has officially become the territory of Persephonian political ally and fellow member of the Union of Jubirdia, Umiiruka.

Umiirukan leader K'Ronikka described the news as 'vaguely satisfactory'.

{Once again we would like to apologise for the absence of publications and this subsequent massive releasing of the backlog and we hope everything should be back to normal now}

At least it's an improvement over your last two entries...

~surprised~ not to be BOTTOM of Bre's votes, thought it would garner much hate.

You qualified for the final, I'm not allowed to reveal what I thought of your entry yet! (Assuming you mean Qvale and not your last entry). There could still be hate yet but there isn't.

Aeroche in shock win shock

An absolute shocker has been pulled out of the heap, with the Aeroche entry 'Moan' by Trentemøller barely prevailing by just a single point to win BJSC XLVI in Terijoki, Ingermanlandia!

The entry was only predicted by half of the predictors of semi-final two to even qualify and went into the final with just the 21st best odds to win out of 30.

Persephonians have already responded overwhelmingly positively to the news as Aeroche had received 10 points from Persephonian voters, thus marking the second time in a row one of Persephonian voters' favourite 3 has gone on to win the contest after last month's Persephonian 8-pointer 'Run Boy Run' by Woodkid gave Ingermanlandia a landslide lead.

A full report on the events in the final will be issued tomorrow as well as a potentially mildly exciting announcement.

BJSC XLVI - the full final results

As reported in yesterday's edition of the Persephonian News Bulletin, Aeroche scraped a win in BJSC XLVI in Terijoki, Ingermanlandia with the song 'Moan' by Trentemøller. Both its overall points total (163) and its lead over the second place (just one point, the third closest result ever after two previous contests ended in a draw) were down a lot from Ingermanlandia's landslide victory last month. It was the country's first win in the contest, on only their third contest, exactly mirroring Ingermanlandia's initial form (complete with their two previous entries finishing between 11 and 20).

It was a very close top three all in all - finishing in second and third were the two hot favourites of the contest, #00274E entry 'Bomb' by Isa and Umiiruka entry 'You're The One' by Charli XCX, which received 162 and 161 points respectively. The two countries had the shortest overall odds to win the final, both having average odds of 4/1 with the Isa song having very slightly shorter odds. Ashton entry 'Medevac' by Siobhan Donaghy and Daehun entry 'Paparazzi' by Girls' Generation completed the top five at four and five respectively. All of the top five were new peaks for the countries involved aside from former winners Ashton.

The rest of the top ten fell as follows: the nation formerly known as FYR Vojvodina-on-the-Wold came 6th with their debut entry as Altyr Muunilinst, 'The Beginning Of The End' by Charlotte Qvale; the nation formerly known as several other names most notably JRK-off comes 7th with its long-awaited return entry 'Only You' by Namie Amuro, now competing under the country name Järkangel; 'Endless Summer' by Oceana finished 8th for Batidas; oft-entered Wynter Gordon finished 9th for Botanikka with 'Stimela'; and finally BJSC veterans Bumayania netted another top 10 with The Young Professionals' 'Be With You Tonight' coming tenth.

Fljótavík's entry 'Spectrum' by Zedd featuring Matthew Koma (not to be confused with the Florence + The Machine's song of the same name) came 11th; Herzebania, another returning country, came 12th with 'Let You Go' by Phase Spin and Matty G featuring Jolene; Jubirdia member Hendinia came 13th with 'Die For You' by Doxi Jones; Elёdan's divisive entry 'Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools' by D E N A (received positively by Persephonian voters) came 14th; Zechonia came 15th with Halestorm's 'I Miss The Misery'; hosts and last month's winners Ingermanlandia returned to mid-table semi-obscurity coming 16th with entry 'In The Sea' by Ingrid Michaelson; N DNTN did better than their first outing, coming 17th with 'Big Changes' by Lemonade; Séyetana underperform expectations but still come a respectable 18th with 'Starting Fires' by Years Away; Skall came 19th with 'I Don't Like The Vibe In The VIP' by ElectroVamp; and last month's Persephonian faves PRoJ rounded off the top twenty with entry 'Sexual Lifestyle' by Strange Talk coming twentieth.

Ramrynia took a break from their usual 'cheap' entries and suffer from it as 'Get You' by Heart Machine Service comes 21st, lower than other recent entries from them; Espen entry 'Over Now' by Edith Backlund came 22nd; and Utopia just missed the dreaded bottom seven coming 23rd with the Us cover of 'In The End' (originally by Linkin Park).

The bottom seven was led by Persephonian voters' favourite entry of the contest, fellow Jubirdia member Bignia-Zaragovina with 'Kings & Queens' by Urban Cone coming 24th; 25th went to N-Lazone with 'Calling You' by Radio Killer; Usfland's first final qualification for a while sees them finish 26th with 'Cross The Line' by Camo & Krooked featuring Ayah Marar; FSR Rontvai have a rare 'flop' with relatively poorly-received 46th entry 'Never Give Up' by ATB featuring Ramona Nerra; another BJSC veteran Kopečka also flopped with Diamond Rings' 'I'm Just Me' coming 28th; Thorunn Antonia's 'So High' may have provided Unovia with their first qualifier for a while but does poorly, coming second last; but the months' wooden spoon award goes to Tinnmark who come 30th with 'Father's Eyes' by Ask Embla, which received 46 points (a strong showing for last place in the final, probably helped by the large quantity of participants).

'Potentially mildly exciting announcement' delayed

The promised 'potentially midly exciting announcement' has been delayed and will now be announced in the Green Room for Aeroche XLVII when it's opened (as well as the Persephonian News Bulletin afterwards). Apologies for this.

Persephonia needs YOU to help us pick our entry for XLVII!

And the 'potentially midly exciting announcement' is that for the first time in its history, Persephonia is opening up the selection process to other countries to help them decide which song to send to the 47th BuzzJack Song Contest in Flynt, Aeroche.

After Wild Belle failed to qualify last contest, the BJSC selection team is under more pressure than ever to find a hit. We've narrowed down our choice to four songs. Three of them are indie-ish songs with female vocals and the last is a female rap song. At the current moment it's highly unlikely that potential 2 will be sent and potential 1 is also fairly unlikely, but we're still torn between potentials 3 and 4 - any new opinions would help.

{A few countries have already given their feedback on our potential entries but if anyone else is interested please just drop a PM to Bré.}

I've only just read this

Changes to the Ingermanlandian train system

With the unexpected return to the BuzzJack Song Contest for eight countries for the 46th edition, Ingermanlandia have had to construct several new stations on their train system. This mostly does not affect Persephonia but it does mean that instead of having a direct link to Kluminica northwest on line 5, we are instead directly linked to Land of Jack. All other direct links are unaffected. See the new revised layout here.

But this is brilliant.

Persephonia have chosen their entry for BJSC XLVII!

Big thanks to all the countries that offered to help the Persephonian song-choosing panel to choose our entry, we have now officially picked our entry and gone through all the confirmation procedures!

For possibly the first time in our nation's history, there was some threat of competition for our entry, but if anyone else had attempted to confirm it they failed to do so.

Our entry this time is very different from our previous entries this year. Our other 2012 entries have all fallen into the genres of indie or electronic, but we've selected a hip hop track for the 47th edition of the contest in Flynt, Aeroche.

Angel Haze represents Persephonia for BJSC XLVII!

As revealed in the rather glorious semi-final showcase last night, Persephonia's hopeful for BJSC XLVII is rapper Angel Haze with her song 'New York'! It's a change in direction for us but we hope one that is received fairly well. Listen to the song below:

The track was drawn into the second semi-final in slot 16 - coincidentally just two slots below another rap entry, Mdiče entry 'Wut' by Le1f. Rap/hip-hop rarely shows its face in the BuzzJack Song Contest so the results of this semi-final should be interesting - Persephonia as usual are just hoping to qualify.

Official Aeroche-designed cover artwork

Thanks to the hard-working organisers of the Aeroche contest {leww}, we can also reveal the official cover artwork for 'New York':

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/Persephonia.png

In addition, an advertising banner designed by the good people of Hendinia {Robot} will be on display around Persephonia for the duration of the contest, or at least the semi-finals if we fail to qualify. Look out for the following:

Aeroche are victorious again!

For only the third time in the BuzzJack Song Contest's history, it's a home victory, as Aeroche take a second consecutive win and therefore win the contest they hosted! Although their previous winner only barely took the lead, new track 'Sulk' by Trust had a convincing lead of thirty points over closest challenger (Isconia's entry 'Lies' by Churches) and won with a score of 190, significantly higher than the 163 points they received for their previous winner.

As such, the competition will once again be held in Aeroche for its 48th incarnation. The venue is yet to be announced but is expected to be capital city Flynt again.

The Persephonian News Bulletin team would like to apologise for the lack of coverage of the semi-finals of BJSC XLVII (we could not publish an update due to unforeseen other commitments {distracted by the Olympics}) but as we are sure you're all aware, Persephonia's entry 'New York' by Angel Haze sadly missed out on qualifying, by a very small margin as with previous entry 'Keep You'.

To be precise, the song came 17th in the second semi-final with 47 points received, three positions and three points short of the top 14 finish required to reach the final.

Delayed coverage of the semi-finals will not be published however a full report on the final results will be published in tomorrow's edition. EDIT: Due to further unforeseen circumstances Persephonian News Bulletin's coverage of BJSC XLVII has been cancelled entirely. We apologise for the inconvenience and promise to be back for BJSC XLVIII.

Persephonia's entry for XLVIII selected

Unlike the just-concluded contest, our entry for which was only decided as confirmation was days away, Persephonia's twenty-seventh entry has already been chosen via internal selection.

Obviously we cannot reveal to the public what the song is, however we can vaguely state that it's one of our most poppy entries for a long time, another departure from Persephonia's usual indie/electronic sound which we can only hope will bring us more success than the rap direction of 'New York'.
