As the other thread was getting too big, it's about time we had another one.

I'll start it out with the Liverpool Managerial ring of roses games. Everyday someone has almost got the job, and today it is Brendan Rodgers. Frankly I'd much prefer him over Martinez, but my biggest problem with managers who have only managed smaller teams, is do they have a Plan B, and do they know how to stop teams only playing for a point.

I can only see the logic in bringing in a younger manager if we're planning on having a director of football

The manager would be seen as a head coach with the transfers dealt with by the director of football. There'd also be a philosophy inplemented throughout the club, so if things do go wrong.. the manager could be easily replaced e.g. Barcelona replacing Guardiola with his assistant. No need for major changes or a big name manager as there's a philosophy in place, which they'll continue with

Whereas, a manager like Rafa would want total control of the club

I'd much rather have Martinez than Rodgers. Why take the person who continued Swansea's philosophy over the person who started it? As impressive as Rodgers has been, he's not introduced anything new or innovative to Swansea, just carried on what Martinez had built after the semi-failure of Sousa.

See that's what I thought about Rodgers originally. Some poster on a Liverpool forum I go on however put together everything he found about Rodgers. I didn't know for example he had coached abroad, spoke fluent Spanish and was a coach during Mourinho's spell at Chelsea. Swansea play better posession football than Wigan, and Rodgers has had more cases of success. Comparing Rodgers to Martinez is like saying Guardiola had no influence on Barcelona, as he only built on some of the foundations built by Rijkard. Swansea play greater possession football than Martinez ever has. He got his training methods and techniques from Louis Van Gaal. I've got my reservations, but I think Rodgers is so much better equppied for the Liverpool than job than Martinez.

Duncan Jenkins on Twitter who has never got anything wrong with Liverpool related stuff has said we're at the contractal stage with Rodgers. And from the past few weeks Van Gaal has kept cropping up for a Director of Football role. Seems to me likes it is a given.

Brendan Rodgers as head coach, Louis Van Gaal as sporting director and Pep Segura promoted from the academy as technical director

I'd be happy with that

To be honest I think they're both great coaches, I just hope whoever is chosen is given time and doesn't suffer a backlash from the fans if things don't go right straight away, given that there will be immediate pressure to do better than Kenny did in the league given that's why he got sacked when the vast majority of fans were against it. I think (and hope) that they both become highly successful managers but at the moment I'd still take Martinez. Wigan can be quite poor sometimes but his methods and belief is just fantastic and ultimately he's succeeded in doing what he set out to do every season as a manager whereas Rodgers was woeful at Reading.
I think Brendan Rodgers would be a good choice as if he can get liverpool to play the football swansea play, neat and lots of passing then they could do quite well. One thing that worries me though is that how is he gonna lure big names liverpool expect to anfield. This will be difficult because a lot of foriegn players will have never heard of him. At least they're giving a less famous manager a shot at the big time. :D

To be honest that is my only worry about Rodgers, but at the moment we don't have Champions League football so it's hard to attract big names. The fact that he was part of the Mourinho tenture at Chelsea, speaks fluent Spanish and knows a lot of famous people in the game certainly won't be bad though. I think the majority of Liverpool fans will be patient, we have to be. I'm not expecting miracles overnight, and we have 4/5 first team players who do not and could not possibly adapt to Brendan Rodgers philospophy.

Mark his spelling at Reading was a disaster, but I think failure makes men. Most managers have experienced severe failure at some point, and it makes them better managers if they see where they went wrong. He turned Swansea into a great posession football side, and better than Wigan. Martinez gets the plaudits for his innovative style, but I think he is defensively naive and questions marks have to be asked how his team cannot win games when playing well. Kenny had the same problem with Liverpool, we'd boss teams off the park but naiveity meant we lost/drew games.

Really impressed with Brendan Rodgers in today's press conference. Hopefully this is the start of something and we won't be changing managers again anytime soon

3 year contract. Seems to be he'll be given two years, no progress then we'll get rid. That's the understanding from my POV.

You mean Villa?

I doubt he could've taken Norwich any further than he has, three years and he'll go down as a club legend.

Yes haha! Head not screwed on.

Suppose he has, but maybe there was more to this than meets the eye. Perhaps he's annoyed that Holt will go, maybe Holt will even follow him to Villa..

It's a shame that the two newly promoted Premier League clubs who did unexpectedly well last season have both lost their manager as a result.

Guess these things happen though, both good managers and both moving to much bigger clubs. What's probably an attraction to both the jobs (well for Rodgers certianly judging by his interview yesterday) is the clubs have underperformed for a few seasons. Big challenge. Rodgers always said he would move on from Swansea though. He's got time to build a legacy at Liverpool.

The Wigan assistant Graeme Jones is the favourite to be the new Swansea manager with Gus Poyet in a close second.

Malkay Mackay is the favourite to be the new Norwich manager with Chris Hughton and Neil Lennon also behind!

I think Swansea will go for Poyet.

No idea who Norwich will go for. Depends how much compensation they got from Villa.

It's best for Lambert and Rodgers to make the move now whilst their stock is still high as you never know what next season may bring. Ipswich and Reading both finished higher than either Norwich or Swansea in their first seasons, their managers stayed and they went down the season after. If that would've happened to either Swansea or Norwich it would be a while before the likes of Villa or Liverpool came knocking again.

Well of course, and that's the risk you've always got to take. How sustainable were Swansea for example, how long before their better players were poached and would the manager be able to pump money in to their squad, it's a double edged sword. I think both will do well though. I'm hopeful Rodgers will prove himself at Liverpool, I think he was the resources and capabilities to do so.

Oh, very true. My comment was more a general lament about how the game works today.

I think Swansea will go for Poyet.

Hands off  Although I have to say that Brighton could get a better replacement now than they would have done a year ago.
