October 19, 201212 yr Biggest match of the season if you're a Sunderland fan, which I am! Anyone got a prediction for the North-East England derby on Sunday? Really hoping Fletcher can sneak a winner - and that Pardew gets sent to the stands. Nope. I never, ever predict derby scorelines, far too worried i'll jinx it. Safe to say that with just two days to go, i'm nervous as all hell. The week or so building up to the derby is always awful to have to endure, it goes by so slowly, especially when it's just after an international break. Early start Sunday morning, getting a taxi into town with some mates for about 8am, meeting everyone in the pub from thereon in, suffice to say by the time kick-off comes around, we'll all be merry. There are fans coming from all over the place for it, a big group of Swedish Sunderland supporters are coming over, should be approaching 30 of us by the time everyone's arrived. Really, really hope Sunderland don't let us down (again), it's got the makings of such an amazing day. The place will be absolutely bouncing if we win.
October 19, 201212 yr Sheffield Wednesday's goalkeeper, Chris Kirkland required treatment after being attacked by a fan. He had just conceded a goal when a fan from the Leeds end ran onto the pitch and struck Kirkland. Kirkland was able to continue. An unsavoury start to the domestic weekend. October 19, 201212 yr Author Well what do you expect really with Leeds fans, there's a good reason they're majorly hated.
October 20, 201212 yr One of my friends was supposed to be stewarding the game, I wonder if he had done whether he'd have been anywhere near the incident. Hope Kirkland's alright.
October 20, 201212 yr Author Alex Ferguson has gone and attacked Rio Ferdinand in his post match comments for not wearing a Kick It Out T-shirt. It would be less interesting if this was a one-off, but this isn't the first time Fergie has criticised players who are not critical to him anymore!
October 20, 201212 yr Why criticise him anyway? Surely Ferdinand should be allowed to make his own decision especially with a topic as sensitive as this
October 20, 201212 yr Author Why criticise him anyway? Surely Ferdinand should be allowed to make his own decision especially with a topic as sensitive as this Cos the man is a control freak. He must have told Ferdinand not to do it, and he's gone against his word.
October 20, 201212 yr From the sounds of it he's only disappointed because he's made Fergie look like an idiot, Rio probably should've made his stance clearer yesterday but utterly ridiculous from Fergie.
October 21, 201212 yr Author Rio Ferdinand apparently set to be fined £220,000 by Man United. Oh dear Almost as much as John Terry - he's going to love that!
October 21, 201212 yr Man United obviously want to be seen supporting the campaign and Ferdinand is obviously representing them as a brand, but I think their stance is harsh It's not like he's saying "I don't care about racism. I'm not wearing the t-shirt". He just doesn't feel like Kick it out are doing enough to stop racism and wants to send out a message to bring about improvements
October 21, 201212 yr Brian McDermott was far more understanding of Jason Roberts' position when he was interviewed on MOTD, bit of a faux pas from Fergie. On the football itself, yesterday perhaps showed Arsenal up since the other three teams supposedly contending for the title all came from behind to win. City should perhaps be favourites now, United will inevitably go on a hot streak in the New Year but I can't see them winning enough games against the big teams.
October 21, 201212 yr People who don't feel like they're doing enough at the moment to combat racism feel the problem is that they're not pressuring the FA enough and that recent incidents and punishments aren't doing enough to stop racism, and that is entirely understandable, but there's a big problem with this, the majority of Kick It Out's funding comes from the FA. How hard are Kick It Out (or any similar organisation) going to be in battling with the organisation that provides them with most of their money?
October 21, 201212 yr Bit of a disappointing run for Carlisle, hope we improve. Colchester have a honeymoon period under Dunne. Not too hopeful for the next two games, Oldham are on a good run and our home form leaves a lot to be desired to put it mildly. Bournemouth have Eddie Howe back at the helm, so I am not overly optimistic...
October 21, 201212 yr im sorry but the main issue in football nowadays is money. how can a team like bristol city for example, expect to compete with reading, spurs or manu. its rediculous. how can carlisle compete realistically with wolves? how can barnet compete with sheffield united? the list could go on, but the point is how can teams realistically compete with teams in leagues above them, with more money. i know people think ffp, the new rules will help but all it will do is give clubs with a worldwide brand like man u, man city and spurs more income, which means more money to spend. what should be done imo is have every club contribute like 5 or 10% of theyre entire income into a pot to be distributed evenly through the football league. that way the money would be more evenly spread out. also when a club like portsmouth has money troubles, shouldnt every club chip in with a bit to save the club? after all football is a community sport.

It's like communism, having everybody equal on paper sounds brilliant, but in reality it is a disaster. It is unfair how foreign businessmen choose their football clubs, but let's be honest most of the big cities in the UK and Wales have successful clubs with or without businessmen. Save for say Leeds and the Sheffield Clubs (who have been in the Premier League in the past 10 years) every big city has a football club performing in the Premier League or Championship. A massive problem with clubs is their finances are mismanaged, and unfortunately it is the smaller clubs who can't get away with it as they don't have massive TV payments to help cover the cracks. Portsmouth were mismanaged by Harry Redknapp, and Aston Villa by Martin O'Neill. Both spending way out if their limits. So many clubs have to apply for administration because their mismanaged. Port Vale is a big example at the moment. Look at previous clubs who've almost gone out of business because of mismanagement and poor chairmen Wimbledon, York, Kettering, Darlington, Leeds etc. it's a massive problem. The only clubs that fully understand the extent of the problems are the ones that have been through financial difficulties and their clubs have lived to tell the tale. If you give clubs extra money in the lower leagues they will use it to gamble on promotion, and not be wise with it.

I don't think too many average clubs have been bought out. Most of the clubs that have been bought have got some strong history. You get anomalies like Fleetwood, Crawley, Forest Green, Wigan, Hull etc. but that's mainly due down to local investment or businessmen wanting to flash their cash. At the end of the day to survive long term you need a stable fanbase, as when things go sour they're the ones who will go through the turnstyles and part with their money.
