September 7, 201113 yr I am so Happy for her and I love SLY  Adele's 'Someone Like You' Soars To No. 1 On Hot 100 Following an acclaimed performance of the song on the MTV Video Music Awards Aug. 28, Adele's stark ballad "Someone Like You" bounds to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, vaulting 19-1 with dual Digital and Airplay Gainer honors. "Like" leaps 11-1 on Digital Songs with 275,000 downloads sold (up 191%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. On Radio Songs, the track blasts 42-19 with 46 million all-format audience impressions (up 59%), according to Nielsen BDS. http://www.billboard.com/news#/news/adele-...005341102.story Edited September 7, 201113 yr by Fahrenheit
September 15, 201113 yr Last week's Hot 100 No. 1, Adele's "Someone Like You," retreats 1-2 after soaring to the summit from No. 19 a week ago, a coronation fueled by reaction to her performance of the song on the MTV Video Music Awards Aug. 28. The piano-and-vocal-only ballad - the first such No. 1 in the Hot 100's 53-year history - slides 1-2 on Digital Songs (213,000, down 22%). "Someone" climbs 19-13, however, on Radio Songs (61 million, up 33%). The song is the Greatest Gainer on Pop Songs (19-16) and Adult Contemporary (16-14), while pushing 5-4 on Triple A, 10-6 on Adult Pop Songs and 35-28 on Rock Songs. http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100#/n...005353052.story On the brink of returning to #1 on iTunes again, plus its airplay is increasing fast - this is going to be another enormous hit for her :D And wow at the bolded bit, that really shows just how popular Adele is, she's taken a song to #1 in the USA in a style no previous artist had ever got a #1 with. :o And it's shaping up to be another big multi-format radio hit for her too. (For the record Maroon 5 sold 220k at #1 on Digital Songs, so she was only 7k off spending a second week at #1 there)
September 15, 201113 yr Well done to her and im sue someone like you will have even further staying power in the US.
September 15, 201113 yr And here's another US record she's broken which slipped under the radar a bit: http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100#/n...005345742.story :o
September 17, 201113 yr Without a doubt Someone Like You is a modern classic, and not even just this, Rolling in the Deep too. Amazing. What video is being used in the US? If anything? :o Edited September 17, 201113 yr by Karma

September 17, 201113 yr Without a doubt Someone Like You is a modern classic, and not even just this, Rolling in the Deep too. Amazing. What video is being used in the US? If anything? :o I think you are jumping the gun a bit there calling it a modern day classic. It only came out a few months ago.
September 17, 201113 yr I think you are jumping the gun a bit there calling it a modern day classic. It only came out a few months ago. I'm not sure about that, I can't see either of the songs failing to become modern classics. They've been such huge and consistent sellers (SLY not so much in the USA yet but give it some time, its run has only just begun and I'm sure it'll end up on par with RITD's run or not a lot worse) and are incredibly radio-friendly and they appeal to practically all age groups. I don't see how either would end up being forgotten. But I suppose we'll find out in a few years :kink:
September 21, 201113 yr This has held at #2 on the Hot 100 this week. It currently looks like it's not going to overhaul Maroon 5 on iTunes any time soon annoyingly  It has climbed 4 places into the top 10 at #9 on Radio Songs though, with biggest gainer honours (84m). (Maroon 5 are now #1 on that chart as well though :() More promising moves on the individual airplay charts as well. Biggest gainer on Pop Songs (16-13) and Adult Contemporary (14-13) plus 'bulleting' (whatever that means) to #4 on Triple A, #5 on Adult Pop Songs at #27 on Rock Songs. No sales figures were given for SLY in the report but Maroon 5 sold 221k at #1 on Digital Songs and Foster The People sold 186k at #3, so it's somewhere between those two... EDIT: I found another article which gives her sales as 199k for the last Digital Songs chart. Hopefully she'll start to increase again soon with how fast her airplay is exploding... :( Edited September 21, 201113 yr by Bré
September 22, 201113 yr I think you are jumping the gun a bit there calling it a modern day classic. It only came out a few months ago. Its been out over half a year now, its broken records, sold millions and is off a record-breaking album. As RITD, they are both modern classics (or if you like going to be).  Thanks Maniac, glad that video is being used, faultless vocal. Edited September 22, 201113 yr by Karma
September 27, 201113 yr Author 5aU9K-MBD_E& Amazing that a video's still being released over 7 months after being #1 in the UK though it's obviously being used to capitalise on the US success. I kinda wish there wouldn't have been one though seeing as though it's already been #1 there. Would have made it seem even more amazing.
September 27, 201113 yr I know there was hardly much shown there, but I thought Adele looked so nice there. I hope the video will help the song stay in the top 40 for a little while longer in the UK. :D
September 27, 201113 yr Do you think they'll start playing the video on UK music channels? If so, it could rise to at least top 20 again! Hopefully there is a video for SFTTR in the works too :D
September 27, 201113 yr Do you think they'll start playing the video on UK music channels? If so, it could rise to at least top 20 again! Hopefully there is a video for SFTTR in the works too :D I really hope so - that will make it finally go Top 10! I think she should release two simultaneously!
September 27, 201113 yr Yay for this! I'd imagine they'll hold out on a Set Fire video for the US release but I really hope they make a Turning Tables video in time for the UK release!
September 28, 201113 yr The preview looks promising, even though it's so short  I think it will suit te song perfectly in its simplicity
September 28, 201113 yr And here's another US record she's broken which slipped under the radar a bit: http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100#/n...005345742.story :o That's a bit of an odd record there. The British charts are full of quirks like that. Very impressive for her though! As for whether this song will become a classic, I don't think it's really up for discussion. How many million-sellers in this country (that aren't novelty or reality TV-related) are NOT hugely famous/well-known? The video's come at a bit of a strange time but is most welcome indeed :D
September 29, 201113 yr A third week at #2 behind 'Moves Like Jagger' today on both the Hot 100 and Digital Songs (where its sales are finally increasing again, up 1% to 201k :D). And she's broken yet another record, this time for biggest jump into the top 2 on the Radio Songs chart, going up from #9 to #2 with 106m AI (+26% giving it airplay gainer honours again). Maroon 5's stats, by the way, are 233k and 131m. So they're still some distance ahead but Adele could challenge for a return to Hot 100 #1 next week anyway if the video gives it enough of a digital boost (it's already back ahead of Maroon 5). Hopefully should give her a second Radio Songs #1 two weeks from today as well. :D
