June 18, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts: Maroon 5 to ring up first UK chart-topper with Payphone Source: MW 16:20 | Wednesday June 20, 2012 By Paul Williams Payphone is set to give Maroon 5 their first ever UK number one single this weekend as Justin Bieber and Cheryl Cole battle it out for album honours. The A&M/Octone/Polydor-issued Payphone featuring Wiz Khalifa has opened up a significant lead at the top, outselling its two nearest rivals combined, according to Official Charts Company Data. Its strong start reflects its UK release having been held back, prompting such a build-up in demand that a sound-alike version by Precision Tunes on the PT label made the UK Top 10 last week. As a consequence of the original finally being available, this reworking has now dropped down to 48 in the midweeks. Maroon 5’s expected debut at one will end Polydor colleague Cheryl Cole’s chart-topping reign after just a week having debuted at the top with Call My Name last Sunday with the highest first-week sales of the year. Call My Name is currently two in the midweeks with Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Whistle dropping 2-3 and Warner Bros act Stooshe showing up as a new entry at four with Black Heart. Completing the singles Top 10 at this point in the week are Parlophone’s Coldplay featuring Rihanna falling 4-5 with Princess Of China, Asylum/Black Butter’s Feel The Love by Rudimental featuring John Newman dropping 5-6, the Atlantic/Fueled By Ramen-issued We Are Young by Fun featuring Janelle Monae down 6-7, Interscope/Polydor’s Carly Rae Jepsen back up 10-8 with Call Me Maybe, the Decca Gary Barlow/Commonwealth Band single Sing sliding 3-9 and RCA act Usher’s Scream slipping 8-10. While the singles battle looks lost, Cole has a chance of leading the UK artist albums chart this weekend. Her third solo set A Million Lights is currently behind Mercury act Justin Bieber’s own brand new album Believe, although the sales gap up until the end of business on Tuesday was just 3,263 units. Following her appearance on Graham Norton’s BBC One show last Friday night RCA act Paloma Faith climbs 5-3 with her RCA set Fall To Grace with weekly sales up 64% as sales of the track she performed Picking Up The Pieces increase 84% to move it 14-11 on the singles midweeks. Meanwhile, sales of Emeli Sande’s Virgin album Our Version Of Events improve 18% as it progresses 6-5. After spending its first three weeks at number one, the Gary Barlow/Commonwealth Band Decca album Sing will fall this weekend with sales on the week dropping 54%. It is the week so far’s sixth biggest artist album with Mercury act Amy MacDonald’s Life In A Beautiful Light now fourth having debuted at two last Sunday and RCA act Usher’s Looking 4 Myself seventh after charting at three last weekend. Slash’s new Roadrunner album Apocalyptic Love featuring Myles Kennedy is showing up as a new entry at eight. Parlophone act Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto fall 4-9 and US country superstar Carrie Underwood’s first UK chart entry could be in the Top 10 with her newly-issued RCA album Blown Away currently a new entry at number 10. Reverend & The Makers’ brand new Cooking Vinyl album At Reverend Makers is 13th at this stage of the week, while also set to chart this Sunday is Oceania, the new Smashing Pumpkins album released on their Martha’s Music label through their old record company Virgin, and The Lost Tapes by Kraut rock band Can, released by the Spoon label through Mute/EMI. Back on singles and Paul Weller is set for a new entry this Sunday with a cover of The Beatles’ Birthday, especially recorded to mark Sir Paul McCartney’s 70th birthday. It is presently a new entry at 30 on the midweeks. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Wednesday Update Top 40 Only Source: Radio 1/OCC Top 40 Singles 1 Maroon 5/Wiz Khalifa* (80k) 2 Cheryl (40k) 3 Flo Rida 4 StooShe* 5 Coldplay & Rihanna 6-10 8 Carly Rae Jepsen 11-20 11 Paloma Faith 16 Emeli Sande 17 Labrinth 20 Katy Perry 21-30 21 Avicii 26 Flo Rida/Sia 27 Pitbull 29 Skrillex 30 Paul Weller [birthday]* 31-40 32 Justier Bieber [boyfriend] [Re] 38 Azealia Banks [Re] 40 David Guetta/Sia [Re] http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/singles/print http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/m...-1-single-1455/ =================================================== Top 40 Albums 1 Justin Bieber* (3,263 ahead) 2 Cheryl* 3 Paloma Faith 4 Amy MacDonald 5 Emeli Sande 6-10 8 Slash* 10 Carrie Underwood* 11-20 13 Reverend & The Makers* 14 Smashing Pumpkins* 20 Ben Howard 21-30 22 Noel Gallagher 24 Kelly Clarkson 26 Jay-Z & Kanye West 31-40 35 Can* *New entries http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/albums/print http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...r-1-album-1454/
June 18, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts update: 100,000 and counting for Payphone Source: 11:45 | Friday June 22, 2012 By Paul Williams The UK’s number one single will top 100,000 sales for the third consecutive week this Sunday after Maroon 5’s Payphone this week already reached six figures. The A&M/Octone/Polydor track, which features Wiz Khalifa, hit 109,476 sales in its first week of release by the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company, leaving it two more days to build on that number. Its six-figure tally so far this week follows the Decca track Sing by Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band selling 142,470 downloads a fortnight ago to achieve the highest sales for a number one this year, only for Polydor’s Call My Name by Cheryl Cole to beat that a week later after opening with 152,001 units. Cole’s single is now down to two on the midweeks, although she remains a contender to top the UK artist albums chart this weekend. Her Polydor set A Million Lights has been behind fellow new release Believe by Def Jam/Mercury’s Justin Bieber all week and that remained the situation up until midnight on Thursday night. RCA’s Paloma Faith continues to benefit from her chat and performance on Graham Norton’s BBC One show last Friday with sales of Fall To Grace up 37% on the week to lift it 5-3 in the midweeks. In its second week on sales Vertigo/Mercury’s Amy Macdonald album Life In A Beautiful Light drops 2-4 at this stage of the week as Virgin act Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events moves back up 6-5. Last Sunday’s number one, the Decca-issued Sing by Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band, is down to six in the week so far. In the singles market Warner Bros act Stooshe look like scoring a second top five hit with Black Heart showing up as a new entry at four, placing it between Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Whistle (down 2-3) and the Parlophone track Princess Of China by Coldplay and Rihanna (down 4-5). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Maroon 5/Wiz Khalifa (109,476) 2 Cheryl 3 Flo Rida 4 StooShe 5 Coldplay/Rihanna Top 10 Carly Rae Jepsen Top 15 Paloma Faith 12 Katy Perry Top 30 21 Avicii/Salem Al Fakir Flo Rida/Sia Pitbull Skrillex Top 40 31 Justin Beiber [boyfriend] 35 Calvin Harris/Ne'Yo 36 Azealia Banks/Lazy Jay 39 David Guetta/Sia Florence + The Machine [sIO] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Justin Bieber 2 Cheryl 3 Paloma Faith 4 Amy MacDonald 5 Emeli Sande Top 10 10 Carrie Underwood Top 15 Slash Reverend & The Makers Top 20 Smashing Pumpkins Top 30 Ben Howard 22 Noel Gallagher Jay-Z & Kanye Eest 25 Kelly Clarkson 27 One Direction Train Top 40 Nicki Minaj David Guetta 35 Bruno Mars 36 Olly Murs 37 Stereophonics 38 Florence + The Machine NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Rudimental 3+3 Gary Barlow 5+5 Rihanna [WHYB] 10+6 Nicki Ninaj 10+12 Loreen 20+8 The Wanted 30+3 Albums Usher 3+4 Rihanna 10+3 Noel Gallagher 20+2 Hot Chip 20+9 Keane 20+8 Adele [21] 10+5
June 19, 201213 yr Author Morning everyone, no one stopping Maroon 5 this time round, and Cheryl is probably bagging a #1 album this week.
June 19, 201213 yr Could be close between Cheryl and Biebs. Messy Little Raindrops opened with 105k in November and didn't really have legs so can't see A Million Lights selling more than 75k. Plus Biebs has a more devoted fanbase. Of course I can be wrong. Edited June 19, 201213 yr by SKOB
June 19, 201213 yr I'm crossing fingers, toes and everything for Cheryl. It is her best effort so far and it totally deserves number 1 ! She beat Michael Jackson in 2009 so surely she can beat Justin Bieber this time  On the single front, I'll be happy with Maroon 5 at #1. Adam is just too hot.
June 19, 201213 yr She beat Michael Jackson in 2009 so surely she can beat Justin Bieber this time  With what, the post-death release with lots of demos and stuff? That isn't a fair comparison at all! I'm hoping the Bieber can manage it even though it would be bittersweet as this is Cheryl's best effort so it would be a shame if it was the one not to get #1. I think Cheryl will get there but some people think she has it is the bag and I don't think she has at all, I think it'll be a lot closer than some people assume.
June 19, 201213 yr With what, the post-death release with lots of demos and stuff? That isn't a fair comparison at all! My comment wasn't to be taken seriously. ^_^ Although everyone excepted his post-death album to sell lots, even with leftovers and demos. And it DID sell quite well actually.
June 19, 201213 yr Cheryl will get the number 1 album, i dont think Bieber will be huge huge competition to her either.

June 19, 201213 yr How does she deserve number 1? Cliche chat! And cliche attack from you. :/ She deserves it in my opinion (I didn't think I had to write it everytime I voice my opinion...) because she has put much more effort into that one than into the previous two, and simply because it is her best album yet. Then of course everyone will have different points of view about who deserves it or not, but it is the chart thread so people are bound to talk about this kind of stuff... therefore I don't get your comment.

June 19, 201213 yr It's her best album so far, so if 2 previous albums got no.1 this one deserve no.1. I didn't know it was released in Eastern Europe? Or perhaps you downloaded it illegally?
June 19, 201213 yr Twitter New Stooshe single #2 in the midweeks! Cheryl at #2 with A Million Lights, looks like the Biebs will be snatching the top spot from her...
June 19, 201213 yr I didn't know it was released in Eastern Europe? Or perhaps you downloaded it illegally? It was released in Central Europe.
June 19, 201213 yr I didn't know it was released in Eastern Europe? Or perhaps you downloaded it illegally? As far as I'm aware, it was released digitally in most European countries yesterday. Cheryl at 2 ? :( I hope the lead is not too big... Edited June 19, 201213 yr by Hayzayy
June 19, 201213 yr Morning everyone, no one stopping Maroon 5 this time round, and Cheryl is probably bagging a #1 album this week. M5 should be safe without a sneaky RiRi release... :P Cheryl easily for #1 album. I'd love cheryl cole NOT to be number 1 album. Just as long as the foetus isn't, either... :puke:
June 19, 201213 yr As far as I'm aware, it was released digitally in most European countries yesterday. It seems that not everyone heard about iTunes ;)
