Posted June 19, 201213 yr As many of you already know, we are coming close to the twelve hundredth number one single in the UK as well as the UK chart celebrating 60 years. So what better way to celebrate than to find out Buzzjack's favourite number ones of all time? But this Ultimate rate comes with a twist. Unlike previous ultimate rates the voting will not be done by year, as this will take forever :P Instead there will be 12 groups of 100 songs chosen at random by random.org of which the top 16 will go through to the next round (making 192 songs) and the rest of the top 20 will enter the semi-finals in which the top 8 will go through. This way we have a final 200. I will open one group at a time and voting will be the same as last time. Then once we get to the top 200 there's going to be a massive final, four times the size of a normal Ultimate Series Final. Obviously you will be able to vote for more than 10 songs but at this stage voting could be very hard for real chart lovers, so you will get more time to vote. Now before you tell me that the 1199th and 1200th number ones haven't been announced yet, this doesn't matter as these 'unknown songs' are appearing in the middle or later groups, hopefully those number ones would've been announced by then as nothing looks like spending more than 2 weeks at the top at the moment. I know many of you are thinking "why should this happen, Bad Romance is OBVIOUSLY Buzzjack's favourite #1 ever *.*" but 1) the ultimate series has always pulled many shocks, not always at the top (see Mr Brightside and Say It Right predictably becoming the top 2 in the One Week Wonders rate) but especially in the middle of the chart. In the past we have had shock winners and top 10/20 placings, and 2) everybody loves a good rate, so if you want this to happen please vote "Yes" and if you think it could be better with some changes click the third option. If I get enough yes votes and the mods are happy for this then I'll start tomorrow :D
June 19, 201213 yr Having a final 200 would be ridiculous, surely it can be whittled down a bit more than that. If you must have a final 200, I think having 24 groups of 50 songs but with 2 groups posted each time (similar to the Record of the Decade threads) and 8 songs going through from each would be better than 12 groups of 100 posted one at a time with 16 songs going through anyway. Picking from a list of 100 would be a bloodbath. (Also, unless you're really going to count 'My Sweet Lord', 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and the Elvis re-issues twice each, we're only up to 1,193 #1s (counting 'Three Lions' twice is more justifiable but I don't consider 'Three Lions '98' to be a different #1 so I consider 'Call My Name' to be the 1,192nd #1 regardless of what it 'officially' is)). But anyway, yeah, this is a pretty good idea. There will be a lot of songs that no one will have heard though. Edited June 19, 201213 yr by Bré

But anyway, yeah, this is a pretty good idea. There will be a lot of songs that no one will have heard though. 01) I see your point, I could easily add some extra rounds to cut 200 to 100, or 50 if need be. 02) How will 24 groups of 50 make any difference to 12 groups of 100? Picking 10 from 100 won't be too hard, as a lot of the songs most of Buzzjack haven't heard of. I can always extend it to 20 songs, like I did for the final of One Week Wonders. 03) Officially, these songs are counted twice as number ones, so yes they will be included. The 1990 version of Bohemian Rhapsody had These Are The Days of Our Lives as the double A-side, which makes it slightly different to the original (obviously people bought it because of BR and not TATDOOL) I don't think any of the songs you mentioned will make the final other than Bohemian Rhapsody. 04) Of course, there will obviously be a bias towards recent songs but a few "classics" from the 1960s/70s could do fairly well.
June 19, 201213 yr I think that most people would not know most of the songs in the opening rounds, so maybe you could round it down to 30 years instead? :) Other than that, this sounds like a brilliant idea. :D
