July 12, 201212 yr I haven't got a clue whose I've got - it's become a lot moodier and more instrumental in part 2, really enjoying it so far.
July 12, 201212 yr I had a listen earlier... (already) yesterday... and there wasn't a single song I knew too. :o
July 12, 201212 yr omg i'm crap at reviewing (and you'll see this when i post it) but i'm at track 03 and i'm absolutely LOVING this disc so far. everyone's gon' want a link.
July 12, 201212 yr I know a handful of the tracks, but most of them are unknown to me. Just finished my first listen, and I'm quite impressed. I'm guessing the title refers to the fact that it's all female vocalists? It's really nice and I'll have a few more listens through before I start reviewing. I'll get BJSC out of the way first and then I'll get stuck into this. :D
July 12, 201212 yr I only know one track and it's a different version of the one I knew originally. Unfortunately it's the highlight after one listen through and I wasn't keen on the original THAT much. I'll let a few of the tracks grow on me before I do my review, hopefully there's something I can salvage. I have no idea who made it though.
July 12, 201212 yr Sadly I don't know much about mine yet, as my link didn't work. Just praying that Medicated Soap is on soon (followed by the sender) so I can have it resent.
July 13, 201212 yr IN HEAVEN http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/GAYANGELIHEARYOU.png __________________________________________________________ The general theme of this is a relationship. ARTIST: GAY ANGEL, I HEAR YOU GENRE: EASY LISTENING 001 - "AERIS IS GONE." The first track plays with a soft piano introduction, with a prominent and important man's voice reciting in a quick spoken word fashion, talking of life's disappointment but finishing on a familiar note remaining faithful. The piano continues on until we reach an almost Aaliyah-esque refrain of "like memories of yesterday". I can only deduce that the voice rapping through the track is Andre 3000 of OutKast. Never heard this track before but it sounds very retro R&B, late 90's, early 00's - really smooth and relaxed with Andre cutting through it with candid and honest thoughts. You can't doubt OutKast ever so you know this is a good track. 8/10 002 - "ALL THAT IS LEFT IS TO GO NORTH. THE 'PROMISE LAND' WAITS FOR ME OVER THE SNOWY FIELDS." This song opens with a distorted guitar riff and a haunting echo, the reverb and the chord progression sounding ever so familiar, before a simple but echo-y piano riff kicks in. A woman's voice fades in holding a tingling echo-ing note, before she is joined by a crescendoing pair of female voices behind her. Fantastic. I'm not clued up on artists at all, but it basically sounds like the sharp harmonies of Dirty Projectors played slowly and hauntingly out into an open field to give a wintery echo back to you on a soft soundbed. Really lovely. 7/10 003 - "THE CYCLE OF NATURE AND YOUR STUPID PLAN DON'T MEAN A THING." Oh my god, this track. It begins with subtle sweeping synth layers, with a slight echo-ing xylophone (?) playing soft notes whilst there's some sharp clashing wooden percussion-like sounds snapping through periodically, before a sampled and slightly distorted woman's voice chants "I don't give a damn" and a deep throbbing bass drops. All elements then come together for the next 3 minutes in a progressive motion, not really going anywhere but going everywhere it needs to. One word - woooow. 8.5/10 004 - "DO NOT WORRY. SOON THE GIRL WILL BECOME PART OF THE PLANET'S ENERGY." This next track is a 1.12 interlude from Mariah Carey. I've never heard it before, but the voice is so indisputable. Different lines of heartbreak and disbelief layer on top of each other softly on yet another haunting soundbed. Intriguing. 7/10 005 - "...SHUT UP." This track has opened with an echo-y strumming guitar and some soft female choir-like voices. A man's voice starts to say "One day I'll take you to Disneyland". I stay slightly bemused at this point, he repeats it again, but continues the thought, giving promises that can wait as he goes on to talk about Hell. He then says once again "One day I'll take you to Disneyland" and offering a promise of Mickey Mouse ears, before saying "It can wait". Instead, he says that now he will give this person a countless list of ammunition, in the hope that one day "the world will be like Disneyland". The music doesn't change throughout, just slightly builds to cater to this odd yet disturbing spoken-word track. It's not my thing but it's definitely a statement piece, it feels a bit cruel to rate it. 6/10 006 - "THERE I WILL BECOME A NEW BEING BY UNITING WITH THE PLANET. AS WILL THIS GIRL....." A lovely pulsating track with clickity-sharp percussion, sweeping gong movements, a fabulous in-and-out vocal arrangement and 80's Casio-lite synth stabs, as well as a cute altered pan-pipe effect in the middle with vocal "eh!"'s running on top. Playing like a sombre slow-dance on your prom night - "When we dance it's in slow motion". 8/10 007 - ".................." Everything gets a bit hi-NRG here. Continuing the air of vague synth and vocal intros, this transforms, no, EXPLODES into a happy-clappy drum-and-bass track with candy rave vocal lines on top, before becoming a bit schizophrenic and abrasive in the middle. Resolving to a smiling dance-style piano riff just in time to finish and fade, the track gives a no-holds-barred feeling of euphoria and happiness - love and drugs in the trees with a moonlight glow. 8.5/10 008 - "........." Whitney Houston - "How Will I Know", acapella. Mystery, wonder, constant obsession. Strip away that 80's soundbed and you have the bear essentials of an agonising situation sung with complete power. The score is a reflection of preferring the original edit, but once again this is a statement track - this disc is telling a story. 6.5/10 009 - "...AERIS." As this track begins with a cheap-sounding keyboard riff, it all seems basic. A female voice comes on top and it still feels a bit cheap, but it's endearing. Listening through pays off however, as it crosses between glitchy breakcore-inspired percussion and the original cheap riff now finding its place and taking upmost importance, even having an octave up layer crushing on top to create this powerful sound. A worthwhile listen, clashing lots of different genre elements into one quite DIY sounding but amazing package. 8/10 010 - CHUN-LI’S ABSURD CURVES AND THE CUNT’S MEOW SCREECHING FROM EVERY TURN OF HER HYPER-PORNOGRAPHIC BODY FUELED MY RAGE AGAINST BOYHOOD, ALBEIT THROUGH ARGUABLY THE MOST ‘BOYISH’ OF MEANS. Broken chords and a slow, but reassuring male voice dominate this track. It's slow, it's echo-y, it's comforting and it's beautiful. Beauty in simplicity! 8/10 011 - I ALWAYS PICKED THE GIRLS WHEN I PLAYED VIDEO GAMES. The next track is almost like a church-organ ode to nothing. Like an open electronic thought to the world, a personal jam session. It's lovely, but not with complete purpose. It just is what it is. 7/10 012 - I WENT TO EVERY LAN PARTY IN HOPES THAT I COULD WITNESS THEM LOSE BATTLE AFTER BATTLE TO HYPERBOLIC DEPICTIONS OF THE SAME FIGURES THEY WOULD LATER JERK OFF TO; IN. LOVE. WITH. THIS. A reimagining of Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" which replaces slick R&B production with Jamie XX-lite bouncing synths and vocal pedals, with the chorus altered to replicate a dark booming voice. Absolute perfect moment. Have this on repeat! As for its inclusion on this disc (and considering the brief outlined), it's a sad moment - not being recognised as an official partner? Denied romance? Heartbreaking to say the least. 10/10 013 - IF FOR NO OTHER REASON, THAN OUT OF SHEER SPITE AT THE EASE OF IDENTIFICATION THE BOYS AROUND ME HAD WITH THEIR UN-INTERESTINGLY PHALLIC/KAMEHAMEHA SUPER-HEROES… I don't know who this is, but the vocals are SO Björk in places that it hurts. I like the barely there production and the crescendo-ing choir. Lots of interesting layers as well. "Words are just words" does tug at the heartstrings though. Sad subject again, considering the brief. 7/10 014 - LIKE MOTOKO KUSANAGI, MY WOMANHOOD WAS ENTIRELY ARTIFICIAL, SAVE MY MIND AND THE TINGLING SENSATION IN MY SPINE PRESENT AT THE REVELATION OF A NEW LEVEL, ESPECIALLY ONE UNLOCKED AS A SECRET— Is this CocoRosie? The clucking sound effects and the folk-like elements sound so familiar. The voice on this is fantastic and sucks the listener right in. I love the little electronic twitches to the basic folk arrangement, as well as the crackling vocals, a really pleasant listen. I assume it's called Miss Madonna based on the repetition of that phrase. 8/10 015 - THE SAME FEAR-INSPIRING FEMME FATALE’S WHO THEY WOULD, AT SOME POINT ATTEMPT TO BATTLE IN THE REAL; This is pleasant, but compared to everything else presented, the vocals seem a tad dreary and the production is the same. Lots of lovely instruments used though. 5.5/10 016 - THE SAME IMAGINARY CUNTS AND PHANTASTICAL PUSSIES THAT WOULD (AND STILL DO) TEMPT THEM TO TOUCH AND CONQUER THE VITAMIN-ENRICHED TUNA OF MY BODY. This track just plays to me like a lot of electronic beeping at an uncomfortable and unsettled time signature. It's very repetitive and switches in the middle, but that is as much change as it is going to get. A bit pointless I feel in what has been an enjoyable and coherent CD thus far. 4/10 017 - "THIS CAN'T BE REAL!" THIS IS FANTASTIC. I've no idea what it is, but it reveals itself like some ghetto high-pitch show-off better of 'I'M BETTER THAN YOU' in-the-sack sort of way. Imagine CSS meets Alvin & The Chipmunks meets mid-00's urban honey meets electronic madness, so, so good. I love this! The shameless "f*** my brains out" and the proposition of one last piece of sex from a cheating bast*rd along with the chintzy production makes for an addictive and surprisingly likeable mix. A highlight from the disc. 9.5/10 018 - WITH THE ASSUMPTION THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF INHERENT OR TRAGIC FLAW IN PRINCESS PEACH’S MARIO KART 64 PERFORMANCE. The high-pitched theme continues. Wobbling and edited vocal lines as well as pulsing synths once again - it all feels a bit familiar in terms of the disc thus far, but it isn't out of place and after the heartache ensued, following the last track it feels like we have some more post-break-up understanding in this relationship. 6/10 019 - .......................................... Unicorn Kid?! Think of chiptune Nintendo-ness meets "Far Nearer" steel drums and a rave piano and you have this. A lovely finisher, and considering the subject I can't help but feel this is a happy ending. Love it. 8.5/10 OVERALL Absolutely fantastic compilation. DRIPPING with effort~ and extremely coherent, it's all well-placed and all inclusions are justified (bar one). The idea of it being a relationship-based thought hurt in places when I was listening, but judging by the rollercoaster ups and downs with a positive ending, I hope the same is going for said relationship. I know you said to try and take a long journey in the brief, but I don't think it could've been any better than here, beside a black night, cold air and my own imagination. VERY well thought-out. ★★★★★★★½ (7.5 stars) average song rating ★★★★★★★★★ (9 stars) overall compilation i don't know if this is how you do it or not so yeah Edited July 13, 201212 yr by ✖ leww ✖

That was a wonderful review / write up and damn I'm impressed you posted all the track titles + artwork + genre n everything (I didn't think whoever got my CD would notice that hahaha). Yeah, this mix (at least in my mind) related to a relationship I've been in for two years now but in general I wanted it to be more of a mixture of moods / for the listener to relate to in whatever way they wanted. There's a lot of instrumental tracks because I feel like they frame the vocal tracks really nicely (which is why it's a bummer that they got all mixed up). I really liked the idea of including a lot of pop music in this but also like remixed/reinterpreted pop music. I wanted it to start off sort of chill then go into pure euphoria and then kind of end on this understated note / a sense of "deeper understanding" I guess. Also, all of these songs are definitely on repeat in my version of heaven ~* The tracklisting / titles come from a few different sources. In Heaven was via m e, "GAY ANGEL, I HEAR YOU" is from a Perfume Genius video (but I also liked the idea of relating that to heaven), the first quote is from one of my favorite tumblr users + member of House of Ladosha (http://julianahuxtable.tumblr.com/) and the second is from Final Fantasy 7. All sort of unrelated but related too ~ ps if ya like that The-Dream song sped up definitely check out his song "Body Work" sped up. I got the idea from James Ferraro's FACT Mix: http://www.factmag.com/2011/10/07/fact-mix...-james-ferraro/ (Body Work is around 14:30 minutes in), but if you have Audacity and the MP3 it's easy to do yourself too. I did the f*** My Brains Out mp3 that I included here songs that just missed out: kelly rowland's ice and atc all around the world <3 <3 <3 and praga kahn injected w/ a poison ft. jade 4 u
July 13, 201212 yr Whomever has mine it was rushed and therefore I wasn't able to do things suck as track names, numbers etc. which many seem to have done. I have 'Over the Valley.' I am listening with an open mind.
July 13, 201212 yr I know who has mine and they'll be kinda bored with much of it because they will know more than half the tracks.
July 13, 201212 yr I very nearly put All Around The World on mine too. I wouldn't mind a copy of In Heaven actually. If you could? :D
