A song not being very good hasn't historically hindered its chances of success.

But yeah, the sooner this is forgotten about the better really.

Applause still pulls over 500k daily streams on Spotify alone. It's a massive number for a 2013 single, even more so since it didn't reach #1.

I don't remember this if it's old :o I love it!

I really wish we had acoustic versions of all of her singles on streaming. A stripped back singles collection is needed.

Shouls never have been the first single, ever. Who was going to idsntidy with those lyrics!? And it should neeever have been rush released vs the biggest pop song of the year. It felt very playground.

Gypsy should have come, a few weeks after Roar at LEAST, first. Applause could come last, with a tour montage video, to end the era.

I remember at the time desperately wanting her to pull it out of the bag with a huge undeniable smasher, because I felt like in 2013 the perception of her had changed and she was starting to be regarded as joke by a lot of people - but this really wasn't it :(

I tried to make myself like the song but never did. It's a misfire for me and heralded the start of a very messy era.

ARTPOPs definitely my least favourite of her solo albums but I’ve always really loved Applause as a track and found it got a rougher ride than it deserved. It’s not too popular on here by Gaga standards but I’ve always liked the production of it and it’s had quite a few bonkers but brilliant live performances alongside the music video being strong too.

2013 was a rough time for Gaga though and I feel like maybe anything she put out at that point would’ve performed well but not as well as she’d performed at that point in her career. It’s interesting that a song that spent multiple weeks top ten in both the UK and US (and other territories too) was seen as a flop though

A single that peaked at #4 and spent 14 consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the Hot 100 was anything but a dud. Ok, there was all that Applause vs Roar drama in the beginning, but anyone who thinks Applause was a flop just because it didn't hit #1 doesn't know anything about charts.
