of course, then we wouldn't have pathetic 9 k selling number 1 albums, this is what happened in France when albums sales started going down and many other European countries, the US did it too, the UK should follow suite...
As a 'chart veteran' I would like to see them combined.

An album is an album as long as it satisfies the criteria for length/price, if it does then it should be included.

It seems completely artificial to make a distinction along the lines of whether one or many artists happen to be featured on the included tracks.

If there are a lot of compliations at the top of the chart, well too bad. That's what's selling. The charts primary function isn't to be exciting to follow, it is to accurately track what is selling.

The merge may work, because it can prove what the people are actually buying.

 

For example, the top albums on iTunes in the past few weeks has been complations.

But the top download albums still sell a lot less than physical ones.
