Robbie Williams unveils new single 'Candy' cover art

The track is the first to be taken from his forthcoming album Take The Crown and was co-written by his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow. The pair previously worked on Williams's single 'Shame', which was released in 2010.

"It's a summer song about a girl who thinks she's great," explained the 38-year-old singer on his official website. "And she might be, but she's a bit nefarious with her ways.

"Some songs take an age to write and some songs just fall out of your mouth completely formed, and you don't have to think about it. I don't know why that fell out of my mouth and out of my brain at that particular time - it just did."

Williams also confirmed that 'Candy' will receive its first radio play on Monday, September 10 at 8am (BST). He is expected to appear on a number of UK breakfast shows throughout the morning to promote the song.

'Candy' is scheduled for release on October 29, with Take The Crown following on November 5. Williams has said that the album is "full of worldwide hits" and recently announced that he would be playing a series of gigs to promote the record.

Williams was awarded an 'Icon' accolade at the GQ 'Men of the Year' awards last week.

He was spotted filming the video for 'Candy' in Spitalfields, East London last month.

Sounds catchy from the short clip - will reserve judgement though. What's will the obsession with pink though? -_-

So it premiers in the morning? Can't see myself getting up early to hear it as I am half dead :teresa:

Wellcome back De Niro , missed your input greatly, hope you had a great time .... Lots of Irish in Canada these days ;)

Have you heard on The Undercolours, seems they inspired Robbie for this album

I really like this song...can't wait to hear the new album!
It's a very catchy song, good work Robbie and Gary!

On radio 2 he says that he has written 25-30 tracks with Gary and is keeping them for other projects etc. He has also said that he is still a member of Take That and that he can't wait to join up with them again for their next project

The track, which was co-written by Gary Barlow, is the first to be taken from his upcoming album Take The Crown.

'Candy' will be released on October 29, followed by his ninth studio album Take The Crown on November 5.

The video will be available to watch from 12.00 tonight on the official site.

:( bast*rd earworm song. It's in my head. It's in my head. It's in my head. It's in my head. I've escaped to the bath in desperation. It's still in my head. Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
It is soooooooo annoyingly catchy. By the 29th Oct I'll be in a straitjacket....

It's a very catchy pop tune but I have to admit I am disappointed. It just doesn't feel like a Robbie song. Very throwaway pop by numbers type of stuff. Very lightweight and not what I was hoping for at all. I thought we were going to get some classic Robbie back but this is way too pop for me. Just saw someone on another forum say it sounds like a Cher Loyd track  Unlike most Robbie songs I don't think this is a grower at all. It's very 'instant' and gets in your head straight away. Maybe that means it will be a number one hit - but it just doesn't seem like a credible classic track. It's already starting to annoy me, especially the very repetitive part at the end. When it was played on Today FM here today - the DJ said people were all texting in saying their ears were bleeding. But he said he thought it was great.

Rob was saying in the interview that the album is full of big stadium sing-alongs so maybe the rest of it will sound nothing like this? It doesn't sound like something a U2/REM producer would've worked on.

It doesn't really sound like something Rob and Gary would've written either, unlike Shame and Heart and I. Sounds like it was written purely to get played on radio in the short term and have a good shot at #1 but doesn't sound to me like a 'classic' at all. If he really wanted to have very commercial hit and was interested in dominating the charts again I would've prefered had he phoned a certain Mr Chambers. 10 years is a long enough break . ;)

Hopefully the album will have more substantial tracks on it and great lyrics that are actually about something. Songs like this should be sung by Olly Murrs and not the Robster. -_-

But it is very catchy and is stuck in my head. :teresa:

Hey! :cheer: Ho! :cheer:

Have you listened to the music they play here these days De Niro, Robbie has been slotted into the Classic 4FM station where the Oasis, U2's & anyone else that has been around for a long time are sent off to. The chorus is catchy but i just think the song is a bit young for Robbie & your'e right it's more suited to the likes of Olly Murs ' the younger Statesman ' . Maybe Robbie will make a good job of singing it live thought I doubt I will be out of the affects of the anesthetic by then :P

Hopefully he will sing it on Friday night & you can tell us what you think, it will definitely get the crowd going, the lyrics are so simple they are impossible not to get !!!

Interesting on what you said about the DJ, was it Ray Darcy, he's not a Robbie fan ...will it get airplay here, that is the big question !!!

No it was around half 1 so would've been Ray Foley I think. He said the reaction was very negative on the texts. I was hoping for a track that even people who don't like Rob had to concede it is a really good song. But it does seem radio friendly and maybe it will fit in and get lots of airplay?

Will be a strange one live for him - it's quite fast and isn't the type of track where he can hold the mic out to let the crowd sing parts of really - although I suppose the 'Hey Ho' part
