August 13, 200619 yr Australian Chart Commentary from Gavin Ryan For the first time this decade, a female has landed a No.1 song for more than eight weeks. Shakira's "Hip's Don't Lie" now spends it's ninth consecutive week at the top of the Australian charts, and in doing so gives her the second biggest No.1 for this decade. The leader with 12 weeks is Eminem's "Lose Yourself" which was at the top from December 2002 through to February 2003. The last female to spend nine weeks at No.1 was Britney Spears' "...Baby, One More Time" in March/April 1999, and also in 1999 was the last time that two No.1 singles spent 8 and 9 weeks back-to-back. The last two No.1's of the 20th Century; Lou Bega's "Mambo No.5" spent eight weeks at the top, and that was followed by Eiffel 65's "Blue (Da Be De)" which spent nine weeks at No.1. The highest new entry to the charts comes in at No.12, and it's the seventh solo single for Destiny's Child lead singer Beyonce. "Deja Vu" featuring the vocals of Jay-Z is the first single to be released from her forthcoming second solo album "B'Day" (someone should tell her about that title!!). Her last appearance as a solo artist was back in May 2004 when "Naughty Girl" spent three weeks at No.9, but her biggest hits have been the No.2 singles "03 Bonnie & Clyde" (with Jay-Z) and "Crazy in Love" both from 2003. Falling out of the Top 50 this week is Busta Rhymes' "Touch it", but he replaces that with the follow-up single "I Love My Chick" at No.22, which is altered from the track 'I Love My Bitch' from the album "The Big Bang". The last charting song (that I can remember) that changed it's name for radio sanitation purposes was The Black Eyed Peas "Let's Get Retarded" which became "Let's Get it Started" in June 2004. At No.24 is the fourth single from this weeks No.7 album "The Secret Life of...", "Revolution" by The Veronicas has a reputation to live up to, as the previous three singles from the album all reached the Top 10, "4Ever" (No.2, Sept 2005) and "Everything I'm Not" (No.7, Dec 2005) and this weeks No.34 single "When it All Falls Apart (No.7, April, 2006). This exact week three years ago Stacie Orrico debuted with her second Top 50 single "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" which reached No.11, and was the follow-up to the No.3 hit "Stuck" from April 2003. This week her fourth Top 50 single "I'm Not Missing You" debuts at No.26, and is the first single from her forthcoming album "Beautiful Awakening" which is released August 26th. She'll be doing a promo tour of Australia in last September. For the third week in a row, the soundtrack from Disney's "High School Musical" is at No.1. The last soundtrack to spent three or more weeks at No.1 was the Bridget Jones's Diary album back in August 2001, where it stayed for five weeks. With Nelly Furtado and Nick Lachey in the country this week, their respective albums rebound up the charts. Nelly's "Loose" album reaches a new peak of No.8, whilst Nick's album (which fell out of the Top 50 last week) jumps back into the charts at No.13. The highest new entry on the albums chart comes in at No.9. "Christ Illusion" by Slayer is their first ever Top 10 album in Australia, and their first Top 50 album since 2001's "God Hates Us All" hit the Top 40. Their biggest album previously to this one was 1996's Top 20 album "Undisputed Attitude".
