Robbie Williams makes 'gay' John Travolta joke at Men of the Year gongs

Robbie Williams used his moment on the GQ awards podium to make a gag at John Travolta’s expense as he dismantled the endless gossip about his sexuality.

 

With his heavily pregnant wife Ayda Field in tow and watching from the dinner table, the former Take That member said the imminent arrival of their baby dispelled the whispers around his preferences.

 

‘I was Googling myself today and the first search that comes up is gay,’ he said. ‘I’ve got a wife that’s pregnant so that’s put paid to that one,’ he added – unless, he remarked, it was a very elaborate cover up and he was doing the ‘full John Travolta’.

 

The 38-year-old shouted “f***ing yes!” as he collected his icon gong before peddling his new clothing and his solo comeback.

 

The star’s arrival with the US actress signals the pair’s baby will now be born on British soil.

 

Williams was happy to share the honours and used his moment to applaud Olympic hero Mo Farah, who was watching on, by saying: ‘God bless Mo! Man of the year!’
