Roxette is Swedish duo formed in 1986 by Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. They made it big in the late 80's/early 90's with hits such as "The Look", "It Must Have Been Love" (from the "Pretty Woman" soundtrack), "Joyride" and "Almost Unreal" (from the "Super Mario Bros." soundtrack ).

They tried and made a come back in 1999 which gained them a decent UK No.11 hit with "Wish I Could Fly", and their latest UK release album "The Ballad Hits" reached as high as No.11 back in 2003 on The Official UK Album Chart.

Now they're celebrating their 20th Anniversary with the release of a "Rox Box" and a re-packaged Greatest Hits album which will include all their hits, rares and demos and some new songs, one of them is their new single "One Wish".

Who did like them and what do you think of this new release?

hmm.... not overly keen myself on roxette, although in the early 90's it was nice to hear a real pop group when waterman was flooding everything with his c**p

Didn't they have the first US #1 not to be available on vinyl? I think it might have been "It Must Have Been Love", it was only available as a cassette single.

They also attacted a lot of criticism when they became the first act to reach #1 in the US with a deleted single - I think that one may have been "Listen To Your Heart", the label deleted the single a week before it reached the top and it sent sales of the album soaring. It set off a trend...

my favourite song by Roxette was "Fading Like A Flower" I really like that one, but I wasn't that keen on them.

Wow, I didn't know that! I guess album sales weren't too good and they tried to put them up a bit. They've been successful enough with the singles though. They charted like this in the US: "The Look" (No.1), "Dressed For Success" (No.14), "Listen To Your Heart" (No.1), "Dangerous" (No.2), "Joyride" (No.1), "Fading Like A Flower" (No.2), "Spending My Time" (No.32), "Church Of Your Heart" (No.36). Then their record label screwed things up somehow and they've never had a hit again.

they had a handful of Hot 100 hits after that, though none did anything spectacular...

How Do You Do #58

Almost Unreal #94

Sleeping In My car #50

and that was it...

eh?.... that doesnt concur with the guiness book.. ok i see luciano is argentinian, but robbie, in the uk they had a string of minor hits right up to '99. 'stars' being their last hit.
It must have been love and fading like a flower, two of my faves

If anyone wants to hear anything from them I recommend you to buy one of their GHs (if that's even available). They contain all their hits which you'll probably remind when listen to them.

In the UK they've had more hits than in the US, their last "big UK hit" was the No.11 "Wish I Could Fly" in February 1999, then "Stars" made Top 75 the same year.

I think (I hope!) he meant the Billboard Hot 100 chart...

It's a phrase they used on one of their albums, when they comment a song they say something like "it's pure pop psychedelia".

It must have been love is my moms favourite song! I love it tooooo lol

Sorry to bring back a very old topic, I hope I won't bother people.

Does anyone have sales figures for them in the UK? Anything? Albums or/and singles?

They've had a fairly consistent sound for nearly 25 years, but they've always managed to release good pop singles right up to 2012. The flop singles are of a similar standard to the hit singles. They've had 3 number one singles in my charts, and I generally like them. They don't innovate but they do what they do well. I always enjoy hearing a new track on Radio 2, who do actually play their records these days (even if no-one else does)...

hooray!

Their biggest hit It Must've Been Love sold 430,000 in the 90's. Dont have any download sales for it though I'm afraid

They are a guilty pleasure of mine. It Must Have Been Love is a favourite of mine.
