My mum has suffered from depression her whole life and has never ever been on benefits. Man she even ran doctor's practice for the best part of 10 years.

It's a pretty destructive illness when it's at its worst but at the end of the day is IS controllable (mostly) and 99% of the time it doesn't really affect your ability to go to work. If anything, the distraction work provides is often quite helpful.

It varies from case to case and some people can work and some can't. You just can't generalise.

True that. My anxiety disorder varies from day to day. Some days I can't get out of bed. Some days I can go out to the pub or even on day trips.

Same with my depression. People on here and other forums think because I post I could hold down a job. They don't see me on my darkest days and in my worst despairing spells. :)

The people at the assessment don't get to see us on our worst days. There are days when I can't even bring myself to cycle to the gym.

I struggle to believe that you are so debilitated by your illness that you can't go in to a job a few days a week. Not to mention that whenever you talk about it you sound so f***ing smug and self-righteous ( see post above :) ) as if you DESERVE to be treated better than everyone else. Cannot deal with people who take advantage of something like this.

Clearly sitting at a computer typing for hours on end isn't a problem for you Chris- thusly a job should be easy to manage.

Please read post 46 again, thanks.

I don't think I deserve to be treated better than everyone else at all. I just want to be treated fairly and my illness properly recognised as it has been for 24 years.

I knew it! You're having a laugh!

Sorry other posters - but there really is no arguing on this point with either charsui or Chris - they're just winding you up.

Erm, disabled and sick people are allowed to go to the gym you know.

And there are times when I'd like to go to the pub or on little day trips - but this little thing gets in the way - oh - its called work.

There are people out there who have depression (severe depression) and still manage to hold down a job you know. Some of us just bloody well get on with it. Its a bloody good job that a lot of us do!

I find it suspicious that two of the biggest trolls on this website are on "benefits".

Trolls?

Half this country are on benefits of some kind.

I don't actually work in that environment - but I find the fact that a lazy bast*rd like you has the nerve to look down their nose at people who do. You (and Chris) are screwing the system for all its worth ... and you're not even ashamed of yourselves. In fact - you're smugness shows that you're actually proud of it. I just hope that one of your neighbours 'dobs' you in.

Lazy bast*rd! Lazy FAT bast*rd!

Oh I'd love BJ to ban me for that - it was worth it!

I paid tax when I worked so I am only taking back what I paid in.

Well, it's strange how the two main posters who go against the majority on an issue are on benefits. It can't be a conscience. It makes me think that you and Common Sense are making unlikeable online personas to cause grief and wind everyone up. It's very sad.

School holiday jobs (or just job in your case) don't count!
