Lady Gaga Acts Like a Normal Person in the Video for Her Tony Bennett Duet

After the hot mess that was the ARTPOP release — an album campaign so deflated it can no longer be referred to in all caps — Lady Gaga fans need a palate cleanser. Understanding this as well as anybody is Lady Gaga herself, whose upcoming duets album with jazz legend Tony Bennett takes an unexpected approach to reminding fans why they’re drawn to her in the first place.

Stripped down and no-frills in a way her solo material rarely is, Gaga’s new material would be more of a head- scratcher if her collaborator wasn’t so iconic (does anybody turn down Tony Bennett?) and if it wasn’t so well suited to her fondness for old-school showbiz. As the above video shows, she’s still fun to watch even when she’s just hanging out in the vocal both (and dressed like a relatively normal human, no less).

Rolling Stone:

See Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's Chemistry at Work in the Duo's New Video

By Jon Blistein | August 26, 2014 at 5:20 PM

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett might seem like an unlikely pair, but the video for their version of the jazz standard, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" proves the diva and the crooner exude a unique, adorable brand of musical chemistry.

Comprising footage from the pair's recording sessions, Gaga struts her stuff in a bevy of various outfits and hairstyles, belting out her verses, before Bennett swings through, sounding dapper as ever. The two join forces for the track's final chorus for a peculiar, yet potent blend of styles that transcends generations and genres. Bennett and Gaga's duets album, Cheek to Cheek, will see release on deluxe and standard editions on September 23rd. The pair's relationship blossomed after Bennett heard Gaga sing Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky" in 2011 and asked her to sing alongside him on a recording of "Lady is a Tramp," which ended up on his Duets II album. Since then, Gaga and Bennett have recorded a number of tracks from the "great American songbook," including tunes written or co-written by Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Accompanying Cheek to Cheek will be two TV specials: Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, a concert special recorded at the Rose Theater at Lincoln Center that will air October 24th at 9 p.m. on PBS; and Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek , a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album, which airs on HSN on September 13th.

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Bennett explained what drew him to Gaga, and why their work together truly shines: "She phrases like I phrase. She's a wonderful singer. Everybody knows and loves her very much. I think when they hear this album that we're doing, they're going to say, 'We had no idea that she sings that well.'"

So this is now part of H&M's Holiday Campaign. Confirmed by H&M on their Twitter. They posted this pic of Asia and Tony's dog:

Daily Mail:

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett star in H&M's Christmas campaign

They are already one of the music industry's oddest couples. And now singers Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett have paired up to star in a coveted fashion campaign. Pop star Gaga, 28, and 88-year-old crooner Tony have been revealed as the faces of H&M's Christmas TV and print campaign.

As well as starring on billboard advertisements and in-store imagery the pair, who have a sixty year age gap, will feature in the brand's TV ads performing a track from their album Cheek To Cheek, which is released on 23rd September.

High street chain H&M are yet to release any of the main images but are giving fans a sneak peek of the studio shoot with this behind-the-scenes image.

The picture shows Gaga chanelling a young Cher in a huge black, curly wig and oversized jumper from the H&M winter collection. Her look is finished with a pair of black fishnets and Seventies style make-up. Tony, meanwhile, a 17-time Grammy winner, is dressed to impress in a smart black tuxedo suit from the brand, featuring a bright red pocket square.

In November 2013, Lady Gaga officially opened H&M’s Times Square flagship store in New York, with fans queuing for the chance to meet and shop with their idol.

The New Yorker, famous for her eccentric dress sense, is currently on her artRAVE: ARTPOP Ball Tour and has spent two years recording a jazz album with the legendary singer.

The album's first single, a cover of Cole Porter's Anything Goes, is the first song to be released and other classic ditties on the album include It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing), Sophisticated Lady, Lush Life and title track, Cheek To Cheek. Lady Gaga is an award-winning pop star, but the singer says recording jazz music was easier than pop.

'You know, it's funny, but jazz comes a little more comfortable for me than pop music, than R&B music,' Gaga said in an interview recently.

'I've sung jazz since I was 13 years old, which is kind of like my little secret that Tony found out. So this is almost easier for me than anything else.'

Gaga and Bennett first collaborated on his Grammy-winning, platinum-selling 2011 album Duets II. Bennett said fans will be impressed with Gaga's vocal performance on the upcoming album, adding: 'They're going to say we had no idea she sings that well.'

'And they're gonna say they had no idea that Tony dressed so crazy,' Gaga added, as Bennett smiled. 'When you come out in your meat dress Tony, nobody is going to know what's going on.' Gaga claims that she is 'actually happier than I've ever been.'

'There's 60 years between us, and when we sing, there's no distance,' she added about working with Bennett.

Is Gaga's 2014 H&M Xmas style inspired by Cher's Moonstruck hair in 1987?

The campaign will make its global TV debut at the end of November, with an extended version of the TV campaign available at hm.com

As much as I'm not really interested in Cheek to Cheek the promotion seems to be excellent this time around and actually thought out :cheer: :cheer: not too much overexspousre like the BTW campaign and not a hot mess like the artpop campaign
Christmas? It's August.

Cheek to Cheek is practically made for Christmas though, much like a Bublé album. Jazz is massive in the older market, stay at home moms etc. And Gaga's fans are obviously gonna gift their parents, grandparents aunts et al with this album :heehee: This is going to a big big seller I'm so convinced, from September straight through to Christmas, mark my words! ;o

They look so blessed together which is the best thing about this whole era. The music so far might not be for me but it's good to see her doing something she loves and so passionately too <3
