A new charity telethon (a British equivalent of the US TV staple) - set to be broadcast next Friday for the first time - is set to feature Cheryl opening the show with "Call My Name"! :D It's on the same day as the Girls Aloud announcement, so it'd be nice if they perform the song with her or something or we at least see them appear in the audience/afterwards. It should be a great performance anyway, based on the performances of it we've already seen and of course the tour performances! And hopefully it'll push album sales too.

Her mic was broken for the first half of the song so she was kinda whispering with the backing track.

She wasn't whispering! We just couldn't hear her singing. She later performed "Under the Sun" though, which was very good.
I've watched that performance back and it looks like she was going to mime but the backup track failed for whatever reason, and then someone in her ear told her during the chorus about the problems and she started to sing during the second half of that chorus.

I love her answer on Twitter

The second half of the song was fine with her singing, and the "Under the sun" performance was amazing. :kink:

Yeah cause her backing track was working for that.

"Call My Name"

"Under The Sun"

You can judge for yourself, but I think she was definitely singing live - she wouldn't lie about miming, especially after multiple comments to chat show hosts about it.

She hasn't actually denied it though. I think her comments also show her backing track didn't show up. I always assumed the vocal backing track was separate to the musical one, as if say she trips they can quickly get rid of it, or if it starts to skip they can turn off the backing track and just have the live vocal (as Hilary Duff has done in the past). I don't see how a technical issue with the microphone could be changed without it being switched for a different one completlety.

For Under The Sun, if she was singing live, it was with a backing track, as the weird almost man like vocal appeared on the chorus like it does in the studio version.

i don't know what's better about that 'call my name' performance - cheryl's complete obliviousness, the actual LENGTH that mistake was allowed to go on for or the insistent cheering from the audience (despite her not doing anything!!!) i really really haven't seen ANYTHING like that from such a big star.
