That's always been the way they recorded though, they used to all record the songs solo and then Xenomania picks the best bits.

And there're been cases of Cheryl and Nadine sounding the same on tracks. "Something kinda ooh" being one of the most obvious one.

It just sounds messier now. Maybe Xenomania have forgotten all their tricks?! :kink:

'The Promise' wasn't at all following the trend. Yes it was very 60's, but it sounded nothing like the 60's/retro sound that the likes of Duffy, Adele and Amy were doing (and getting success from) back then. It was completely different.

Nail on the head...I do like it, and I LOVE the chorus and Sarah's belty bits/Kimberley's talky bits but as a song it's kind of worn off on me after repeated listens. If this had been on 'Tangled Up' or even as a single off 'The Sound of Girls Aloud' back in the day I probably would love it but it feels like it's kind of 10 steps back musically. For me if they'd still wanted to maintain their trademark quirky sound with Xenomania involvement while keeping it current they would have done well to have a look at how Florrie Arnold has done it on her EP's that Brian and Miranda have produced in the time they've been away - especially songs like 'I'm Gonna Get You Back' or 'Experimenting With Rugs'.

watching the video had made me realise why there are pretty much the best girl band (the songs still slowly growing though)

having a press release for their 'comeback' is a bit ott though no? its only been 3 yrs they ain't no spice girls

The video is amusingly terrible. I love the contrast of the angry faces and the random hugging/holding hands.

my problem with the video is that it doesn't feel like they ARE together. Asides from the orange dress shots. it's all very seperate :(
I quite like the fierceness of the video, but my eyes literally do not know where to look or how to focus throughout - far too many fast shots and flashes of text, it'd probably give you a headache to watch on repeat. [/oldman]
You know it really surprises me that people still go to Ray Kay for videos. He's almost as bad as Hype Williams these days.
Hype Williams is incredible.

This disagrees.

and I quite like the video, they all look amazing. Not keen on the text throughout though, who thought that was a good idea?!?

Was gonna reply with a list of great ones but then realised it was ALL just Kanye West.

thread ruined.

Hype Williams is incredible. Ray Kay is not.

Has Hype Williams directed even one watchable video in the last 5 years? He's the f***ing pits! I agree Ray Kay's out of focus/handheld cam shtick is a bit passé now.

I LOVE the video, but that's perhaps more because I enjoy seeing them together again (+ the return of Nadine's crazy faces) than because it's technically a good video.

Hardly any close ups of Sarah in the video, hmmm. The verses sound like PG and Duncan, but the chorus is alright.

Some of you seem to forget Cheryl managed to sell 152,000 just 4 months ago... so Girls Aloud can easily sell 100k+

Yeah with a hit song, even Take that didn't get to number 1 with The Flood, 1D number 3 with their latest, the song matters.

I love the video! It's very simplistic but put together extremely well, very exciting and energetic! :D
