Posted October 30, 201212 yr http://mashable.com/2012/10/30/disney-buys-lucasfilm/ Disney has bought Lucasfilms for over $4 billion. Announced plans for a new Star Wars film in 2015. Good. Bad. Not bothered. Let's talk.
October 30, 201212 yr I think GOOD. The down side I'm seeing so far is that George Lucas will only be the creative consultant on this film(s) and that I'm not sure what the film is about, but I very much enjoy the Star Wars films and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Star Wars is one of those things that milks itself for money anyway, they may as well make some new films to give them more excuse!
October 30, 201212 yr OH MY SHITTING CHRIST YAY It was always going to happen, but I'm glad it's sooner rather than later. I hope they PLUNDER the depths of the ridiculous nonsense that's already (semi) cannon for post VI stuff. Like Palpatine becoming a ROBOT, they could avoid the shit with the kids though. What an insufferable bunch of twats, although what can you expect when you cross LEIA and HAN and LUKE and his COUSIN (who was never mentioned in the movies so that won't even happen anyway).

I loved the Star Wars films as a kid, and quite enjoyed the prequels too (but I was still quite young). I think most avid Sat Wars fans just don't want George Lucas anywhere near Star Wars anymore!
October 30, 201212 yr The only place anyone with sense wants George Lucas is a LOONY BIN. The man dove off the deep end sometime in the mid 90's.
October 30, 201212 yr I'd have him in the same consultant-type role that they gave JK Rowling for the Harry Potter films - it's his baby after all and he should have some input into the story arc. Just please dear god don't let him near the script. I don't know enough about the expanded universe to suggest storylines to pilfer (and frankly there are more interesting sci-fi film concepts out there, Mass Effect anyone?) but Han + Leia's kids are surely as good an idea as any.

Mass Effect story, lore and characters >>> Star Wars Just with a shitty Lost ending.
October 30, 201212 yr Mass Effect story, lore and characters >>> Star Wars Just with a shitty Lost ending. I kind of agree, Star Wars still holds a dearer place in my heart because I grew up with it and it's so evocative but ME's depth and ambition shits all over it. Bit much for Joss Whedon to take on in his spare time?

That's a good point, this could potentially be a good thing, I just hope it still feels like a Star Wars films and not Disney does Star Wars. I'm excited to see where they go with this, hopefully some familar faces will be involved and not just a bunch of new characters and actors.

I'm willing to see what they do with it. 2015 current has Star Wars, The Justice League and Avengers 2 slated for release. Big year.
October 30, 201212 yr George Lucas always wanted to do a 9 part movie, at the start which is intended to be set in the future, I remember in a magazaine article he had enough of Star Wars, and decided to scrap the last 3 movies. I love to see who takes the franchise on board as a director if the 3 sequels goes ahead. Personally I don't really care now, I love the first 3 movies, I didn't care much of 4, 5 and 6.
October 30, 201212 yr Do you mean 4,5,6 in production order? or 4,5,6 in story order? I just did it in story order, forgot 4, 5 and 6 were the first 3 movies and 1, 2 and 3 was the Phantom Menace etc etc etc. which I didn't care much about them
October 31, 201212 yr Although they pale in comparison to the originals, I didn't actually mind the prequels, Episode III in particular I felt rounded everything off quite well. This could be amazing, a total disaster or just 'meh', I have no idea what to expect, but the franchise holds a spot very close to my heart and Disney have been known to do pretty well with things before so I'm obviously intrigued. October 31, 201212 yr Author The more I think about this, the more I think it's a good idea. The money that's been spent by Disney on acquiring this is phenomenal. It's almost a boom or bust moment, they can't mess this up. I think rebooting the James Bond and Star Trek franchises has seen it can become after negative audience reviews and loss of mainstream interest. They most importantly need to get the script perfect, which considering the money they're spending, I can't see them messing this up. Let's just pray Michael Bay is kept as far away from this as possible.
October 31, 201212 yr Interesting. Although I'm no Disney fan this could be good news. Let's hope they stick with the original planned story. The Emperor killed was in fact a clone and Luke succumbs to the dark side in his fathers place. Han & Leia's son is the 'new hope'. Would be nice to see many of the original cast return then
October 31, 201212 yr I discovered SW very late, and so didn't grow up with either. The prequels are a pile of shite except for the last 30 mins of Ep III. I am excited about these, because the first trilogy (4,5,6) are some of my favourite ever films, and if these can match just half of what they managed, it'd be a winner! Let's just pray Michael Bay is kept as far away from this as possible. I have every faith they will do it justice, like you say they NEED to. Plus, there's kind of an already inbuilt 'reboot' aspect to the story with it being set after the (satisfying) conclusion to RoTJ. I just hope they don't take away my other favourite franchise from me, thus far I've lost my favourite (Star Trek) and 2nd favourite (Bond), I can't lose #3 too :( (I know there's almost universal support for Craig/new Bond - not from me anywhoo).

Would be nice to see many of the original cast return then I assumed even before knowing the plot of any of the Expanded Universe that any sequels would have to revolve around Luke turning bad but I fear it'll be a bit of a one-dimensional concept with too many echoes of I-VI. And the Emperor being a clone would be such a cop-out. Dear god please don't let Michael Bay anywhere near it. I fear James Cameron will end up doing this.
