Matt Helders has revealed that the Arctic Monkeys are planning to reinvent themselves.

"I don't think we're going to do that again and that's why we won't - because we've already done it.," he told the Daily Star.

"We've changed our subject matter; but it's still about actual circumstances and people we've met. We've got 13 or 14 songs we've been trying at soundcheck."

I'd imagine them to follow this road as the first album was all about weekends in Sheffield. ^_^ The only problem is that fans tend to begin a backlash if the second album isn't a carbon copy of the first album. -_-

The same happens if it IS the same so you can't win really  They always said they'd stick to their guns no matter what even if they're less successful because of it ;) I'm personally excited by this considering we've seen the same thing from them for over a year and it's much better if their next stuff is different rather than the same. Noel Gallagher even said about his change in song writing considering his lifestyle as he said he can't write songs like Rock 'n' Roll Star anymore can he? ;)

I'm all for a change. ^_^ I'd gradually go off the AM if all the songs had the same sound, and i'm really glad that their gonna go for a different sound direction for the next album but its like you say you can't win. <_< Theres always gonna be people that complain whether they adopt a different style of music or if they create a carbon copy. -_-
Well I just hope Alex and Co. bring out what they feel they want to bring out as it's always better that a band bring out a record they're happy with as you can connect to it much then a band who were pushed to sound in a way e.g. Athlete or just churned out the same record every time e.g. Oasis but whatever happens they have a big enough loyal fanbase to be a success with their next album but as Alex said it doesn't matter to them, as long as it's good I don't care what they do but I would prefer them not to do something exactly the same as WPSIATWIN and I'm getting my wish. ^_^
I'm also glad they're not doing the same, a new sound can't do they any harm in my opinion, they've already bursted into the music industry quite spectacularly, so this is the time for them to experiment and try to follow a new path. I agree there will be people who will diss them cause they've changed, and it bothers me the fact that some people will say "booo, they should've sticked to their sound", but that's the same stupid people that would've said "booo, they're sooo samey" if they wouldn't have changed anything.
