Thanks to Jord from Mardy-Bum Forums

British band Lostprophets have laughed off reports that fellow band; the Arctic Monkeys have cracked America.

The Lostprophets have experienced dramatic success in the US but do not think the Monkeys are capable of doing the same.

The ban’s front man Ian Watkins said: "In the UK, the Arctic Monkeys connected with people singing about very introspective things that had to do with this country.

"Then they go to America and do Snl (Saturday Night Live) and everybody there was like, 'Woo, Arctic Monkeys, best band in the world.'

"And there's some guy in the Midwest going, 'Huh?' That guy doesn't give a **** about social commentary on the streets of Sheffield. They didn't break America, they bounced off".

I can see where he's coming from but the American fans I know know what they're talking about which I was suprised about. As I already said a few times I never expected them to take off in America in the first place. :o

Well I'm sure we can get an explanation on why they've done so well once Holly (topshop princess) gets here :P

How much success have the prophets had in the states?

Their last album sold over a million over there.

Yep they're getting quite big.

Last Train Home was in that Billboard 100 aswell and Rooftops is just under at the mo..

Their new album "A Liberation Transmission" made the Top 10 on The Billboard 200 I think.

Arctic Monkeys weren't really the sort of band (as great as they are) that I expected to crack America.

America aren't massive fans of indie music if you look at their Billboard chart it's all urban/hip-hop music that tends to do well.

It's not that they're not the sort of music it's the fact thry're so british ;) and the americans can't really relate to the songs like we all do ;) as I said I think Lostprophets have a point but at the same time there have been a suprising amount of americans I've spoken to around the net who DO what certain words like 'mardy' and know the jist of what they're talking about but remember it's the catchy tunes that have propelled them to where they are too. :cheer:

Lostprophets style seems to be made for America though....

It does ATM, as their sound is poppy-emo ATM which works well in America with Panic and Fall Out Boy etc, I mean you've only gotta look at the sucess that those bands have in the VMA's but in a way even though personally I think Lostprophets tons better than Fall Out Boy etc they'd never have the same sucess as them because Lostprohets are British. -_-
