I am sorry but it is unlikely that Girls Aloud would touch Eurovision with a barge pole, to represent the UK is still seen as a death wish career wise. The alternatives mentioned are both 2010,2011 ish rumors.

It will be either an unknown, reformed band, or someone so far from the past yet even they think Christopher Maloney is in the wrong era.

Anyone know when the UK are open to submissions for the UK entry...I hear its back to a public vote so I assume anyone can submit a song
I really, really strongly doubt it's back to a public vote, given putting on a show costs money the BBC aren't willing to spend.
Which annoys me a little. The one time we put effort into getting a good songwriter, and had a proper show dedicated to finding a singer (and I don't mean just one show with 3 singers) - we actually got a top 5. It baffles me why they didn't at least try and repeat this.
Money. The BBC's funding's been cut anyway - and ratings matter more to the BBC than the result itself (the BBC would rather do well than not, but it probably would rather come last than win). They know they're capable of getting a semi-big name through internal selection, and that's really all they need to get ratings up to the 9/10 million mark.
I'm pretty sure they said they were going to have a national final again this year? We'll see anyway... I've not got high hopes at all, regardless of what they do.
I actually met Graham Norton on Saturday night as well. Should've got some inside info from him! Shame I was too drunk to even immediately associate him with the Eurovision...

Nothing on it on ESCToday if so!

With ITV1 airing the 'Big Reunion' later this year, could one of these be a contender?

B*WITCHED PLZ.

so does anyone know when the UK is opening its door for people to submit songs, it is going to be a public vote apparently, after last years awful result....i've looked on the web but can't find any info other than its going to be a public vote
I think the giveaway there is 'ITV1'.

Well, yeah, I'm not THAT dumb. But the 'Big Reunion' is only for one night in J anuary. They could easily be asked, or have already been asked, to do the show.

I don't think it will happen, was just making a suggestion.

You said that before? They haven't taken unsolicited submissions for songs for YEARS, I think 2004 or 2005 was the last time. I remember they had a competition on Radio 2 for the best listener/fan-submitted song, which they gave to an (actually quite fab) Shania Twain rip-off called either I Gotta Man or What I Am, but it was too late to include it in that year's selection so they said they would include it in the following year's selection, which obviously didn't happen as having been broadcast it would have broken the October 1 rule :drama:

If you could give us a source from anywhere saying it'll be a public vote that'll be great. In any case, I imagine the song submissions wouldn't be open to the public, given they're taking a 'big name' approach to the contest now.

Apparently Scott Mills said that he knows who is the UK entrant for this year and that he will be hearing the song next week according to ESC Forum! If true, it seems that the BBC is well organised for a change! :cheer:

By the way, there is another UK topic on the 2nd page that might need merging with this one.

The latest Popbitch weekly email - so pinches of salt at the ready, although you can never quite tell with Popbitch's reliability...

We almost couldn't face coming back

to the world of gossip after hearing

the latest rumours that have been

going around the BBC over the

holidays. But we have a duty.

Brace yourselves:

* Girls Aloud are wanted for this

year's Eurovision entry. With

will.i.am (already on BBC as a

judge on The Voice) as producer

and guest rapper.

In all likelihood it's NOT happening but could you imagine? They've put the Senior Director of Radio 2 in charge of it this year, and they'll doubtless have more clout than the gay intern they get to do it otherwise...
