Posted December 2, 201212 yr Olly Murs - Troublemaker stays at #1 Following in the footsteps of Robbie Williams' Candy, Olly Murs stays at the top with his trouble making antics! Like Robbie before him, Olly has done the double this week with his album Right Place Right Time also topping the charts. This is the 32nd different number one single this year alone with just 4 weeks to go, compared to 35 different number one albums. Below Olly is a reclimb from Bruno Mars to #2, after his performance of Locked Out Of Heaven on last week's X Factor. Same reason for Rihanna's rebound to #3 this week with Diamonds, after a run of 1-4-4-8-8-9-10. Ke$ha - Die Young enters at #10 25 year old US singer songwriter and rapper Kesha Rose Sebert gets a 3rd UK top 10 single this week as Die Young enters at #10. Ke$ha made her first UK chart appearence as featured vocalist on Flo Rida's 2009 #1 hit Right Round. However she made her solo debut in 2009 with the #4 peaking hit Tik Tok, selling very well in the process. The following year, Ke$ha followed that with 3 further top 15 hits - Blah Blah Blah, Your Love Is My Drug and Take It Off. In 2010, she also scored 2 further top 10 hits as featured artist - #6 Dirty Picture by Taio Cruz and #7 My First Kiss by 3 Oh 3. Last year was her first #1 single We R Who We R , followed by #32 peaking Blow. All of these singles come from her debut album Animal, now the lead single to her new album (due out next week) Warrior debuts at #10 - Die Young. Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble re-enters at #24 22 year old US pop / country singer songwriter Taylor Alison Swift is back in the top 30 with her new single I Knew You Were Trouble. Taylor Swift debuted in 2009 with huge #2 hit Love Story, which remains her biggest UK seller to date. Despite 5 further top 10 hits and good sales in her native USA, Taylor only managed another 2 #30 hits in the UK until this year. However that changed when We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together peaked at #4 in the UK and became her first US #1 single. There were 4 further promotional singles which all made top 40, with the highest being I Knew You Were Trouble. Said track is confirmed as being the next single and hence its re-entry a place below its original peak just 7 weeks ago, likely to climb further in the coming weeks. Pogues feat Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York re-enters at # 27, Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You re-enters at #30 You know Christmas really is just around the corner when 2 perenial faviourites make their reappearence in the UK top 40 - Fairytale Of New York and All I Want For Christmas Is You by The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl and Mariah Carey respectively. This is now the 6th year in a row where these 2 tracks have been back in the top 40, ever since downloads have been included. Mariah's track originally made #2 in 1994, behind East 17's Stay Another Day. It made #4 in 2007, #12 in 2008, #18 in 2009, #22 in 2010, and #11 last year. The Pogues' track also originally made #2 but in 1987, behind Pet Shop Boys' version of Always On My Mind. This is now the 8th year in a row for Fairytale Of New York's chart appearence - #3 in 2005 ,#6 in 2006, #4 in 2007, #12 in 2008 and 2009, #17 in 2011, and #13 last year. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive enters at #35, and Hear Me enters at #37 US indie rock band Imagine Dragons get their first and second top 40 hits similtaneously this week as both Radioactive and Hear Me enter at #35 and #37 respectively. Both tracks are taken from the band's EP release, however Hear Me is the first track so the new entry at #37 accounts mainly for the EP downloads and the #35 entry accounts for donwloads of the individual track Radioactive. This happened just 3 weeks ago with Ben Howard, the Burgh Island EP charted at #32 however no individual tracks sold enough to make the top 100 in that case. The Script - Six Degrees Of Seperation enters at #38 Irish band The Script follow up their chart topping single Hall Of Fame with a #38 entry for Six Degrees Of Seperation, both tracks are on their #3 album, back up to #19 this week. This is now the band's 6th top 40 hit since their debut in 2008 with #15 hit We Cry followed by huge #2 hit The Man Who Can't Be Moved. Earlier this year they scored their first #1 alongside Will.i.am with Hall Of Fame, that track goes back up to #19 this week. Last year Danny from the band was featured on the Voice UK talent show, which no doubt raised their profile somewhat. Olly Murs - Right Place Right Time is the new #1 album As mentioned earlier, Olly Murs does the double this week as his single Troublemaker holds on and album Right Place Right Time folllows his last album to enter straight in at #1. One Direction stay at #2 and Rihanna falls from #1 to #3 with Michael Buble and Rod Stewart's Christmas albums both rising a place to make up the top 5. 2 best of compilation albums enter the top 10, Neil Diamond's Very Best Of at #8 and Girls Aloud's Ten at 10 minus 1 - #9! Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds sountrack, Alicia Keys' Girl On Fire and Il Divo's Greatest Hits also debut inside the top 20 this week, with McFly's 2nd hits collection coming in at #21. Opinion I am happy to see Olly Murs achieve the double and also get a second week at #1 with his single, both single and album are excellent. Bruno Mars and Rihanna also get my seal of approval, as do Lab/Emeli and Alicia Keys. That makes a brilliant top 5, so just lucky that Ke$ha's dirge didn't make it then. I am no Taylor Swift fan but I like her new single and We Are Never Ever as well. Imagine Dragons sound quite good, I do prefer Radioactive out of the 2 though. It is always good to see The Pogues return each year, Mariah's track is a little overrated but still good to hear. Very happy The Script have made it with Six Degrees Of Seperation, their 3 albums are all brilliant in my opinion. Edited December 3, 201212 yr by loudjamesbond
December 3, 201212 yr With Robbie Williams, One Direction, & Olly Murs, all doing the Double Top, over 4 Weeks, what does it mean in context? 1) It is the fastest 3 Double Tops ever - by different Acts. 2) The Beatles did it 3 times, within 4 Weeks, in 1963:, 28/11/1963 (1) The Beatles - Please Please Me // She Loves You 05/12/1963 (1) The Beatles - With The Beatles // She Loves You 12/12/1963 (5) The Beatles - With The Beatles // I Want To Hold Your Hand 3) Olly Murs is the 4th Act to manage it in 2012. Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band did it in June, with Sing. 4) 4 Double Tops in a Calendar Year is not that rare. It was done 5 times in 2011 - but, only by 3 Acts. Rihanna did it twice, as did Adele, & Bruno Mars did it once. 5) It was previously done as many as 4 times - by different Acts - in 2008 - Duffy, Madonna, Coldplay, & Kings Of Leon.
December 3, 201212 yr Author Olly Murs' first album peaked at number two. Love Story was a no2 hit in Feb 2009! Good Article though! Thanks, for some reason I awlays think that Olly's debut album made #1 but it did not. 2006 was a typo, the 9 must've gone upside down!
